This is the best jigsaw out there. No question in my mind! Absolutely smooth cuts, in birch plywood, white oak, or anything else. No vibration. Easy blade changes and foot angle/bevel changes. Nice, long, soft cord, that doesn't twist your tool around. Be sure to get some Progressor Wood blades from Bosch too - they're amazing, especially when paired with this saw.
Shop around, though, if you want to save some bucks and get this shipped quicker - Coastaltool dot com, for instance...

I find the Bosch jig saw very powerful and well balanced. The versatility of the machine equals any on the market as far as I could determine. My biggest issue with a saw of this type is the ease with which you can follow a cut line. This saw helps where skill is lacking. As an example the very low vibration from the machine definetly assists the less skilled and skilled craftsman. To test this feature I turned the saw on and set it on a flat surface in an already cut out section. I then let go of the tool and it just sat there running and not trying to "dance" away. Blade changes are a snap, literally, and really an improvemnet over the old twist the top several times to disengage and engage a blade in the cutter head.

I have been using this saw for about 3 months now. I have found it a pleasure to use. The vibration is truly minimal, no numbness in hands after using. Nice straight, easy to guide cutting. Minimal splintering on cutedges using finer blades. I have never had the orbital control off the first 2 settings and these have been plenty for up to 1 inch hardwoods. On 2x4 pine it is also a joy to use. much easier to use than my old B&D. Actually I would say that in ease and smoothness there is no comparison. The blade change system is excellent. No tools required to change the blade, no screws getting gummed up with sap from the wood. A minor point, but the carrying case is also nicely laid-out. The dividers hold the saw securely when transported and the positioning inside makes the case well balanced when the tool is in it. I think this is one tool that you do get what you pay for.

Lives up to the hype - still made in Swizterland!

I got one of these for Christmas and what everyone says about it is true. I had a thirty year old [middle of the line to be fair] Craftsman Jigsaw that could never cut a straight or clean line and vibrated like crazy which left me with the impression that a jigsaw is a tool of last resort. That has now changed with the 1590EVSK and it is now my tool of first resort for most sawing decisions. When I first opened the case to my Bosch I said "lets see what she can do". I put in a Bosch blade [it comes with assortment of three] and got a scrap of 2x4 to crosscut. My old jig saw would have choked on that big time. Well the 1590EVSK zipped right through it - WOW and left a clean cut. Then I drew a wandering line on a piece of 1x6 and put in a fine cut blade and it and I was able to follow that line and cut smoothly like a dream. I am going to put in some Pergo floor soon and was wondering how I was going to rip planks of it. Yes I could use a circular saw but that is a bit scary and requires clamping to do it safely [my wife works with someone that cut their hand pretty bad doing it incorrectly with a circular saw]. Now I plan to use the 1590EVSK with a blade that will do laminate and an edge guide or clamped on guide which can easily be done on site.

The 1590EVSK just oozes quality, durability, and engineering. It is not cheap compared to other jig saws but for what it can do it could easily be the most used saw in the arsenal of a do it your self guy/gal or handyman doing a lot of duty that a circular saw used to do and in a safer manner and therefore be a great investment. Be sure to use Bosch blades in it as they are top notch and worth every penny. Blade changes take about five seconds if you are clumsy. Oh by the way the reviewer down the list must have bought the lower priced Bosch Jigsaw that is indeed made in China and is still a highly regarded jigsaw. I did email Bosch and they assured me that as of the date of this review the 1590EVSK is still made in their plant in Switzerland. If you are in the market for a quality jigsaw that is extremely versatile you will not regret purchasing the 1590EVSK no matter how little or how much you plan to use it and if you register at Bosch's website they currently will extend the warranty to three years for it.

I am a heavy tool user. I have been woodworking for many years. I give this Jig saw my highest rating. As soon as I got the saw I put a blade in it with no tools, and I rammed it through some extremely tight turns in 5/4 PT decking as fast and hard as I could. I could not beleive the cut.

The saw is a little more money that other in the class, but I beleive it is money well spent.

You will not be sorry!!

Wow - what a nice jig saw.

The Bosch 1590EVSK is smooth, powerful and easy to handle. But, with any cutting tool, half of the credit or blame belongs to the blade used. This review is based upon the Bosch blades supplied with the jig saw.

First, vibration is very well controlled. When run at low speed settings there is virtually no vibration. At the highest speed vibration is present but not at all objectionable.

In terms of power this jig was not at all challenged by 1-3/4" thick kiln dried red oak. The speed control circuitry held a constant blade speed regardless of the rate I fed the tool through the stock. Of course there are limits and if pushed too fast the blade would slow down somewhat.

Another reviewer mentioned heat buildup with this Bosch. I used this jig to cut four skirtboards for my staircase. It took about an hour to make all of the cuts. The Bosch was slighty warm but not hot. Perhaps working in an unfinished house at 65 degrees was part of the reason I did not observe any objectional temperatures.

The Bosch is a heavier-than-most jigsaw. However, the extra weight, coupled with a large shoe size makes it easy to keep the tool firmly in contact with the material. My previous B&D jigsaw had a small shoe and as a result was "tippy" especially when cutting near the edge of the stock. I have not observed this behavior with the Bosch. The mass also aids in dampening vibration.

The blower works well at higher speeds, but if you select a low speed setting the tool does not generate enough air to clear the cut line of debris.

One improvement would be the inclusion of a light source near the blade. My 40-something eyes don't focus as well as they used to and a bit of supplemental light near the blade would be welcome.

At first I was hesitant to spend so much on a jigsaw. But then, my previous saw was an economy priced B&D that I cursed every time I used it. With the Bosch I look forward to cutting with a jigsaw and have never regrettted spending the extra money for it.

This is the last jigsaw you will ever buy, unless you buy loaners for your neighbors and kids. CPO sells a minty refurb for @ $20 less but then adds shipping, and doesn't offer Amazon's standard $25 off of any major tool purchase. Your choice. A buck is a buck, and CPO is good.

This saw cuts straight and does curves and tight spots extremely well. I am a beginner woodworker but I have tried and owned a couple of other jigsaws that just can't compare. Yes, it's heavier than my old jigsaw, but I don't cut so much that the weight is an issue, and the stability and power more than make up for a little added weight. Forget the price. Tomorrow you won't miss the money and you'll have a jigsaw that will last a lifetime.

Buy Bosch Progressor blades and don't look back. They are equal to the saw's ability and then some. More than worth the slight extra money. Don't forget to buy a few special-purpose blades, too. And buy more clamps!

Bosch has really figured out the jigsaw and its blades.

I bought this new jig saw after reading all the rave reviews about it and its predecessor, the 1587. My first jig saw was a Craftsman and I loathed using it because the intense vibration made it feel like my arm was going to shake off. It was such a useless piece of junk that I was hesitant to buy another jig saw. One cut with the Bosch 1590 completely changed all that. Now my Craftsman is in the county dump and the jig saw is one of my favorite power tools. This saw cuts through 3/4" oak like butter with almost no effort at all. In fact, I find myself having to slow down while using it because it will cut through wood much in much less time than it takes me to guide it accurately and follow the pattern I've drawn. And there's almost no vibration at all, making it easy to follow those patterns for clean, accurate cuts every time. Simply stated, this is an absolutely fantastic tool that no woodworker can live without. I don't know how I made it so many years without one.

I'm a "Tool Nut" and have collected and used almost every cutting, hammering and shaping tool there is. I honestly don't know how Bosch did it but this jigsaw is the number one best one I have ever used. I just finished what seemed to be miles of scroll work in 2" marine plywood. The accuracy is nothing short of phenomenal. How Bosch got this saw to make 90 degree cuts without wondering on even tight curves is beyond my understanding. It just works. Due to the kind of grip, my hands never tired. The dust blower is A+, the blade changing is easy (need to use Bosch blades only), the cut is so smooth I didn't even have to sand, it has a nice long cord and "No", I don't work for Bosch!

As a Cabinet shop owner for 25 years, I assure you that there is simply no other choice than any of the Bosch models. Perhaps 20 years ago, I had my first and paid around 250$ for it - big money then, and worth every cent. Ran them 10 hours a day and rebuilt them in a hour regularly. Running 4 or five now on lighter duty, and have not replaced a part in 5 years. This is the ONLY tool on the market that has no peer or comparable replacement. I buy the so called refurbs that are the same as new. Take the time to oil the guides and roller, and your grandkids will be thinking of you when they use it.

I never saw the need to use a jigsaw on a regular basis, so I had a bottom of the line Craftsman. I hated using it. I ended up buying the Bosch, and now I don't see much need for my circular saw! I have not been able to bog this saw down, of make it shake. Blade changes are crazy simple! It has stabilizing wheels that keep the blade perpendicular to your cutting surface. Overall, this saw changed my opinion of jigsaws and made me a big fan of Bosch. If I were going to buy one saw, this would be it.

This saw has all the features you'd expect for $169.00
It is well balanced, has no vibration, has super easy blade change. The speed control knob at the back of the motor sets the maximum speed, the trigger varies the speed up to the maximum setting. This saw is a workhorse, never bogs down, regardless of the speed setting.

The only downside to this excellent saw is that, on cutting thick wood(1'-2"), the cut is skewed to the left a little. Different blades from other manufacturers don't seem to improve the problem.

Read all the reviews. Tried it out at the Woodworkers Show. Bought it. Love it! If you like a good solid, stable, clean cutting machine, then this jigsaw is what you're looking for. I get good square cuts that are easy to follow a line (no vibration, blade guide that keeps the blade from "bending", very solid mass, but not "overweight"). Chip blower does a great job of keeping your path clear. Blade replacement is just a matter of pushing a button; no more tools. You will definitely get your money's worth with this power tool.

I am a semi-pro woodworker. I've used several jigsaws over the years, including the Porter Cable 9543, and this is the best! I've always been a Porter Cable guy, but when some of my tools were recently stolen, I had to replace them quick. I read several reviews on jigsaws and tested a few. I've never owned a bosch, so I was a little reluctant to purchase this saw, but I couldn't ignore all the great reviews, so I bought the Bosch. I'm glad I did, what an awesome saw! Enough power for any wood I've cut so far (including 3/4 red oak). Great precision, solid, and no saw dust in my face (unlike the PC 9543)! Easy blade change and base adjustment.

I would definitely recommend this saw. It's a little more expensive than most, but worth it. I've since purchased a Bosch router, and am looking at other Bosch tools. I've been converted.

I travel remodeling very high end hotels and resorts. I use a jig saw on a daily basis. I only buy the best tools. When my truck was broken into and my Festool jig saw was stolen, I needed a new jig saw to start work that morning. It would have taken 2-3 days to get a new Festool one. So off to (insert name of local big box store) I thought I would get a Bosch to get me by till the insurance money came in and I could get another one of my beloved Festool saws. After about an hour I wondered why I had wasted the $400 on the Festool saw. This one is awesome, it cuts square, blade change is a thousand times easier, the plate bevels easier, cuts faster, is quieter, and is easier to see your line of cut. Twice the saw at half the price. I should have known my other bosch tools are some of the best quality tools I own and I love them too. (now if they only made a plunge cut circular saw with guide) In short, this is the jig saw that all other jig saws want to be when they grow up.

You'll love this saw!

Though I don't use a jigsaw frequently, I put my old $50 Black & Decker through hell on more than one occassion, both in terms of the work I asked of it and the amount of invective I spewed each time for its stunning lack of accuracy. Faced with having to cut a 4" vent hole in exterior stucco walls, I decided that it was time to get a real saw. I cut several electrical box holes with the B&D, and believe me it wasn't a happy experience. After having read the reviews on this site on the Bosch 1590EVSK, I decided that a real jigsaw was in order. I gulped at the price, but...
I could not believe the difference. Using a tile blade (which I had to buy separately), working on a high ladder, the saw made a smooth, clean circular hole. The vibration was non-existent, which is a concern when cutting stucco. This saw is an absolute pleasure to use, and clearly the quality of the tool means that I won't have to buy another jigsaw again.
That a dust shroud is not included at this price, but instead must be purchased separately, as well as the cheesy case, precludes me from giving this a full 5 stars. But in terms of "tool love," you will not be disappointed if you buy this one.

I've been used to enduring the HD special cheepo Jigsaws all my life. These things twist and warp during a cut until they finaly break. The Bosch is the first high end jigsaw I've worked with. It's most impressive feature, other than perfect cutting performance, is the effortless blade change feature. To remove a blade, all you have to do is push a button and "PoP" out comes the blade. Checked the sole plate alignment with a square and it's dead nuts on. The orbital motion really works- makes it cut like a hot knife through butter. I feel good about my purchase.

I had my eyes set on this jigsaw ever since I saw the ads in the wookworking mags. I originally started out with a Craftsman scrolling sabre saw, which had absolutely no accuracy in trying to keep a clean cut in any direction! Well, I used that for several years and then I thought why doesn't any one make some sort of guide closer to the base plate for stabilty? I had many problems trying to keep the blade cutting at near 90 degrees or any angle for that matter. I've used primarily Makita and Milwaukees in the shop years ago and never have I had satisfactory results until this Bosch piece with the Precision Control guide appeared on the market. I had to have it and I never even looked back at anything else. I considered Makita's new offering that is similar, but it wasn't available locally. So the Bosch went home and the first project it tackled was the cutting down of a tree section. ---so much for the precision control guide huh? I suppose I abused it a bit (lots of sap and build up). I had to see how much power this thing really had and it did better than my recip saw due to its orbital action with the exception of the short blade. The cut section was 12" in diam. and the recip saw finished up.
Enough ranting, so the main reason for the purchase is for some cabinetry and I've used it primarily to build custom speaker boxes that require many complex angles and curves and it has served me well.

Great control, Heavy feel (which is nice for the control aspect), ans plenty of power. Lotsa bells and whistles which I haven't even begun to explore, but I like the capabilities.

Granted I am updated from an awful black and decker, but I can't imagine another jigsaw performing better than this one.

If you are already serious enough to spend $100 on a jig saw...spend the extra and come up to this level...it'll be worth it.

UIf you aren't serious enough to be willing to go over the $100 mark, this may be too much saw for you right now, but if you get more serious later...this is what you'll end up buying.

I did a lot of reading and research before I bought this jigsaw. I am quite pleased with it - well balanced/weighted, excellent cut quality, dust collection is great when connected to my Fein Vac. The blade changing is unbelievable and the ability to vary speed by trigger and with the 0-6 dial on the back of saw works well. I can't think of anything to complain about. If you need a jigsaw this is the one.

Got the Bosch Jigsaw as a Father's Day gift and it's one of the nicest presents I've received. I've cut metal, soft and hard woods, plastics, and even a little bit of ceramic tile (though I usually use the tile saw for this).

My only comment is that I'd like to see a splinter-free insert that I didn't have to replace so often. They aren't expensive, but I wonder why they even need to be replaced at all. This is common to all saws, but maybe the Bosch engineers can come up with something. They seem to be the most innovative.

Otherwise, I know I won't go wrong with this saw and the outstanding Swiss-made Bosch blades. The blades are execellent in any saw, and I won't buy or use any other blades. I'm a hobbiest but this saw makes me feel confident that I can make most cuts at near professional quality. Very nice jigsaw.

This is a nifty improvement upon Bosch's excellent jig saws. The base plate is the most noticeable upgrade over the old ones that would bend any time the tool fell, or was dropped. The blade change mechanism is a vast improvement over the previous flimsy, tool-less system, and obviously more convenient than the even older screwdriver models. The machine is solid. Vibration is well controlled, and the tool is reasonably quiet. And of course, it cuts like a Bosch.
I do have one quibble, and it's admittedly an odd thing to complain about - The cord is too long! 99.9% of the time I'm using an extension cord anyway, so the extra 6' (or so) of cord serves no purpose other than to be a hassle to pack up.
As I said, it's a quibble. Other than that, I can't find anything I'd change with this saw.

I'm buying it again.

I bought this saw after putting up with a ridiculously shoddy Skil jigsaw for much too long. I didn't get a chance to use it much, as it was stolen a few weeks after I bought it, but I just placed an order for another. Sure, it doesn't have the fancy features that the Skil offered, but it cuts a perfectly straight and plumb line every time, which the Skil NEVER did, in fancy mode or not. At twice the price it was worth every penny. Can't wait for my new one to arrive. A real tool for real work - reliable and accurate. Refreshing!

Definitely the best jigsaw I've ever used. Excellent cutting ability. No vibration. The metal casing around the nose gets very hot during extended use though - too hot to hold comfortably. That means you'll have to take a break every now and again. If they can solve this issue they'll get the 5th star out of me.

I got this saw for $158.94 and FREE SHIPPING!
I got some spare blades too... It is SOLID as a rock! ... Probably the best hand power tool I have! ... I tried some test cuts today on some 3/4" plywood... Used the Progressive blade... Cut it like butter... If I had gone full speed, it would have been better! ... All cut edges were as smooth as glass!! ... the blade looks like it was surgically made and razor sharp and about 1/16" thick... not a flimsy piece of hacksaw-like material.

I need to practice a little more doing curves, etc.

Right now, I LOVE it!! SMOOTH!!!

I didn't find changing blades was that difficult after reading the manual in fact it is pretty simple and a lot easier that the old screw and clamp method. Got a great deal at Home Depot, Bosch included a free 5" variable speed orbital sander with my saw which also came with six saw blades, plastic base, chip guard and case. Can't beat that.

I've had this saw for about 5 months and it's worked great on everything from thin plywood to hardwood flooring. I have not had the problem with the precision control feature that K. Wang has had - perhaps his is damaged if his blade is pinched and getting excessively hot. The precision control fingers on my unit only touch the blade near the back edge and their friction doesn't cause anywhere near the amount of heat that the wood friction generates.
His startup and speed problems may be caused by the brushes not making good contact. Check that they are installed straight. Also, try running the saw for several minutes to get the brush surfaces broken in (just stand there and hold the trigger down for 5-10 minutes continuously while the saw runs full speed with no load).
I highly recommend this saw. The past jig saws I've had at home and at work have sucked, while this one is fast and smooth. I have had especially good luck making inside-90 degree corners with it.

The web has become an invaluable tool for folks making a purchase and wanting some assurance the product being purchased is as good as advertised. I read numerous reviews of the Bosch 1590 Jigsaw and was impressed by the positive comments. Because I was in the middle of a major home project I started using the Bosch as soon as it arrived. I can't say enough superlatives to do it justice. I had seriously considered the Festool jigsaw that costs a lot more and am delighted that I decided on the Bosch. After struggling along with an old Craftsman jigsaw with all its vibrating and blade deflection, I now realize what it's like to use a real high quality jigsaw. The ease with which the Bosch slices through even 2X material is simply amazing. The lack of vibration makes it much, much easier to follow a line and also reduces fatigue. Though the adage of "you get what you pay for" doesn't always hold true, it certainly does with regard to the Bosch 1590. If this is typical of Bosch products, I will be buying more of them in the future.

Like others, I too would be hesitant about reaching for my jig saw for its lack of ability (Craftsman). On the job, my craftsman broke trying to cut a hole through 1 1/4" subfloor. Before it broke it took forever to make an 8" cut. I ran to the store to buy a new jig saw and came across the Bosch. Usually I research a tool extensively before purchase, but I had no time. I like the beefy look of the Bosch and it's other features. I bought it and went back my 1 1/4" subfloor. At first I thought something was wrong. It went through the floor like butter. I was stunned at the power and precision of the cut. The shoe adjustments and speed dials are easy to use and great features. I will now reach for this jig saw more often.

I purchased this jigsaw a few months ago. A friend of mine had the previous model without the quick blade change and was very happy with it. In fact, he said that he would use it for many things that I typically pick up a circular saw for. Having heard that he preferred to rip lumber with his jigsaw, I had to give this a try.
As for the credibility of my statements, I have only owned a cheap, $80 Ryobi jigsaw, so I was transitioning from a worthless saw, but WOW! I now find myself being less reluctant to pick up the jigsaw when needed. The quick change feature is amazing. as easy as the description says. The variable forward oscillation is a time saver and the speed stability of the saw is incredible. If you are in a hurry, you can push right through without bogging down the motor. Another great Bosch product added to my collection!
I have nothing negative to say about.

I have only used this, so far, to cut a pre-formed counter top and the cooktop cut-out for the same. I can say that it is very solid, powerful and quiet, and has well thought out features. I really appreciate the toolless blade changing system. This jigsaw cuts very accurately and is such a big improvement over my old Skill jigsaw. It was rated in the latest Fine Homebuilding magazine as the "Best Overall" out of a number of the most popular jigsaws. Check it out.

I recently bought one of these. All I can say is that it is the best jigsaw I have owned or operated. I've used it on a few projects now and I am impressed with its performance. I do a good amount of pattern routing and find that I can remove a lot of material quickly and accurately with this tool. It allows me to cut close saving both time and router bits. I think its well worth its price.

After eighty-sixing a severely flawed Dewalt caca jigsaw, I ponied up a few more bucks for this machine. I don't use this tool in a trade or anything (I'm admittedly a weekend warrior), but I do cut a wide variety of pricey materials when I do use it, and it performs flawlessly time and again which saves me bucks in the long run. It is rock solid in its design and has NEVER let me down. I'll have this around for a long, long time. I want to put it under my pillow when I go to sleep at night. That's how much I like it. You'll like it that much too. I'd give it 100 stars if I could.

I received this unit as a gift last Christmas (I must admit it was on the top of my wish list...), and have been very pleased with it's performance. The tool is very well-made, rugged, comfortable to use, and has a variety of features that are quite useful for general woodworking and metalworking applications. Of course, Bosch pretty much 'wrote the book' on jigsaws, and this unit clearly reflects the thorough engineering, attention to detail, and utility that Bosch is known for. And I'm not particularly a Bosch 'fan', I purchase each tool based upon it's own merit, irregardless of brand name. Blade changes are quite simple, and the adjustable shoe has very usable features such as a 'cut to vertical edge' capability, and a very well-designed bevel adjustment/locking feature. Also of great value is the 3-year pro tool warranty included with this kit. Bosch will replace the tool for any defect for a period of up to 3 years from date of purchase, and will do so within one business day of your reporting the issue (they charge your credit card and express ship the replacement to you, then credit the charge back when they receive the returned unit). I've used the much-touted (and highly-overpriced) Festool jigsaw and the Bosch unit is every bit as capable, for less than 1/2 the price of the Festool. Overall, highly recommended.

I bought this saw when I was installing about 2400 square feet of laminate flooring. I thought for sure that the by the time that the floor was finished the saw would be as well. Surprisingly, the flooring is long done and the saw is still going strong. In fact, I have installed another laminate floor since then and used this saw to cut stainless steel for a range hood. Many blades later I continue to be impressed by this tool.

It is somewhat heavier than most jigsaws, but this works for you as much as against you. The saw does not tend to jump around or shake you to numbness, even if you use it for an extended period of time. On the other hand I would not want to hold this saw upside down making coped joints for very long.

All in all this is a great saw that I would highly recommend.

This saw is much superior to my old Craftsman that died. It absorbs the cutting vibration, which greatly improves control. The sawdust blower feature is a real plus. Should you buy this saw I recommend you buy the JA1003 saw guide and JA1005 Dust Pick up kit at the same time as they are not included. Another nice accessory is the zero-clearance insert that also functions is an anti-shatter plate. This works quite well in giving a smooth cut, but buy a couple of extras, as the clear plastic insert is only pressure fit into the saw foot and can easily be lost. The only detractor I found was the saw guide could be more robust. However, it has held up so far.

Remember those Christmas gift jigsaws that your mom bought for your dad? Sad little vibrators with thin blades that couldn't cut a staignt line in anything but drywall.
br /
br /Well, this Bosch unit is anything but that. It's a well made, versatile tool that becomes more useful with each job. Small inset cuts and square corners are a breeze in any material. A powerful motor allows the user to concentrate on the direction of the cut, confident that the unit will power through.
br /
br /Relative to complaints, I feel that I would prefer the barrel grip unit for better control and reduced bulk, but it wasn't avilable at the time of purchase. Also, I wish that a robust edge guide was available for the unit. The optional accesory edge guide looks like a Skil product from Walmart.

This thing has so many features to enable precise cuts even if you have never touched a jigsaw before. Just make sure you use the right blades for the job. I am very happy with this purchace.

I have enjoyed the Bosch 1587AVS for several years but couldn't resist upgrading to the 1590EVSK last month. I wanted the added power and control, the additional 1.4 amps supplied by the motor, the greatly improved blade change capability (no more rotating the knob on the top of the body), the precision blade guides for even straighter cuts, and the optional attachment capability (although I'm sure most of the same attachments can be used on either saw).

I have been extremely pleased with this jigsaw. I think it's the best jigsaw on the market for the money, bar none. I've cut slotted holes and curves in plywood and hex bolts as well. That is just scratching the surface of what a good jigsaw can do.

It's definitely worth the money. I now own several Bosch tools, including router kits and a miter saw. Love the craftsmanship, fit and finish, durability, and flexibility!

The Bosch Jigsaw has exceeded my expectations. It has the power to cut thick hardwood but it has the control to make intricate cuts as well. The plastic shoe helps to keep from maring the surface of wood so the amount of necessary sanding is reduced. I expect this will be the last jigsaw I buy.

I have had it for a couple of weeks now. This jig saw is great. Nice clean cuts, seemingly effortlessly. Biggest job so far was trimming a 1 3/4 inch pine door slab to size. Using a straight edge I had no problems trimming remarkably straight and smooth pieces, that sometimes were no more than 1/8 inch thick and 80 inches long. The cuts barely needed sanding. The trimmed edges were very sharp with almost no tear-out, only needed light sanding to take the edge off for the paint. Blower does a good job keeping saw dust off, changing blades is super easy.

I'm a counter top installer.

I use this jigsaw every day to cut out sink holes and it never disappoints. The precision feature is excellent, it produces straight and square cuts. I now use this jigsaw instead of a monster belt-sander to scribe countertops. The overshoe has never come off and prevents damage to laminate countertops. The One Touch® blade change has probably paid for the jigsaw in time saved. The table stays square and is easy to adjust to 90 and 45 degrees using its detents and lever-lock. This jigsaw is truly a pleasure to use. The Porter-Cable jigsaw that this replaced was a piece of aggravating junk.

After two years of heavy abuse the switch had to be replaced and the strain relief on the cord finally seperated. The metal gear housing does get too hot to touch after heavy use -I just use leather gloves. I was so impressed with this jigsaw at work that I bought one for my personal tool collection.

My old Skil jigsaw was 10+ years old. I had no idea how much better a jig saw could be. The Bosch is powerful and has several nice features like the precision guide, no tool required blade change, blower to blow chips away, and positive lock for angled cuts.

br /The instruction manual is excellent due to its clear and concise information. The storage/carrying case is well designed and has enough space for the cord to fit without undue hassle.

This is one of the best tools I've ever owned. It cuts so smoothly and is such a joy to use I'd recommend upgrading your old jigsaw to ANYONE. I went from very rarely using my older jigsaw to reaching for this all the time when I have to do some work that wont fit on the scrollsaw or bandsaw. It's a very useful tool in the shop and the variety of blades help a person pick the right cutting blade for the material at hand. The wood cutting blade for curves works well and doesn't flex as much as I thought it would. The melamine blade cuts without chipping anything out. There are many choices in blades and I'm sure if a person used the right blade for the right job they could get the best result every time with this jigsaw! The way this jigsaw blows the dust is awesome! It is also directional in that you can choose to how to keep it away from the blade as you cut so you can see your line.

Ever wonder why most guys on the job have a Bosch jigsaw? There is a good reason. They're damn good. Nuff said. Oh yeah, never compare a Bosch to a ryobi. And also, yes many of us do use a Jigsaw for fine finish work. This one is one of the only which is capable of doing so. The only other Jigsaw I would ever consider is the Festool. However, the price is unreal.

An all-around good saw with low vibration, good stability, and a good secure blade lock and release mechanism. Solid performance so far, although it does come with a surprisingly short (1 year) warranty.
br /
br /The only minor quibbles:
br /
br /1. The "precision cut" blade clamp is a design that appears to have left engineering out of the loop. Two metal jaws in constant contact with a metal blade moving at 3000 spm, with no lubrication or rollers. I initially thought the saw had a bad motor bearing as it consistently squeaked to a stop. Turned out to be the blade squeaking against these clamp jaws. And no, I did not even engage the precision cut clamp button. Many of the blade styles are wide thick enough that there is constant contact with the clamp jaws, even when they are "open."
br /
br /2. The case. Easily the cheapest, shoddiest case I've seen wrapped around a power tool in years.
br /
br /But overall a good tool and a good buy.

Throw out your junky old jigsaw and buy this.

I'm not a professional carpenter, just a self-taught home improvement guy. I'm as cheap as the next guy. and I'd been making do for years with a light duty jigsaw that probably wasn't very good when it was new. This Bosch saw makes a world of difference, both in the enjoyment of the project and the quality of the final result. It's hefty, but not unmanageable, and the weight acts to stabilize the tool. It's also very good at holding a line against blade deflection - you can even take very small edge cuts without having the result come out looking scalloped and uneven. This is a serious tool that will improve your skill right out of the box, and make the one you're probably using now a bad memory. It's well worth the money, and I wish I'd bought one sooner.

I bought this tool to do some cutting for my flooring project. It is just perfect very easy to use.
br /
br /I even used the saw to cut a 4ft long board along the length (instead of getting a table saw) - it worked perfect. I am very happy with the performance. I bought this based on the other reviews I saw I am not disappointed.
br /I have not used other features such as cutting pipes or metal - but I am sure it would do just fine. I wish the manufacturer include a video for instructions on how to use it - now a days, everything is on video. I feel it takes too much time to read manuals understand. Visual instructions demo would be perfect for such a versatile tool.
br /
br /I highly recommend it.

The Bosch 1590EVSK is an excellent general purpose jigsaw. It is manufactured in Switzerland unlike lower cost Bosch jigsaws manufactured in China. It has a solid grip with smooth motor and saw movement. The 6.4 amp motor provides plenty of power for working with wood up to 2 X 4 size. The precision guide control and blade orbit selection features allow clean, accurate cuts through a variety of materials. The blade ejection feature and easy loading T-Shank blades make fast blade changes. The Bosch blades retained their edge through continuous work with plywood and pressure treated lumber. My only concern has been how hot the front part of the saw gets after several minutes of continuous use. This has not been a problem so far.

I had a 30-year old Craftsman jigsaw that didn't have orbital action, and I hardly used it because I had to push hard on it all the way through a cut, ruining many blades in the process. My first project with the Bosch was some leaf cutouts in 2-inch treated lumber for deck railing decoration. I was AMAZED from the moment I made the first cut with the Bosch! It went through that lumber like a hot knife through butter, and the sides of the cuts in the thick lumber were perfectly perpendicular to the surfaces. What I had expected to be a real chore was a joy. I finished the six cutouts in just a couple of hours, when I was expecting it to take a couple of days. I would highly recommend this jigsaw to anyone considering it. I'm planning on demonstrating it side by side with my ancient Craftsman for our woodworking club. WHAT a DIFFERENCE!

Bosch put a lot of thought into refining an already excellent jigsaw. The greatest innovation was quick change blade system and the quick change angle setter is a nice feature, too, although I hope it holds up. With Bosch, always look at the point of manufacture as I purchased three of their router plunge kits (made in Asia), and ALL of them have had to have their switches replaced. Look for Bosch products made in Germany and you should be fine. As with this jigsaw, unless you are ready to fork out $440 for the Festool, this is the best jigsaw out there.

This jigsaw is by far the best jigsaw I have ever used. I am an amateur and I have used it for various jobs around the house and to install a laminate floor. Laminate flooring is very tough on a saw. This jigsaw had plenty of power. The integrated blower worked quite well. I had no problem following the line. Changing blades is one of the best features of this saw. You literally eject the old blade with a button! Two more features I was not expecting was a boot cover and anti-splintering insert. If you are cutting delicate materials it comes with a plastic boot cover to prevent scratching. The anti-splintering insert clips in around the blade to support the material. These two small yet very useful features were very handy while cutting the flooring. This is not the cheapest saw you can buy, but go ahead and spend a few extra dollars. You will not regret it.

I'm not a pro - just a home do-it-yourselfer. But I like quality tools. The Bosch, from my perspective, is a great jigsaw: solidly built, minimal vibration, easy blade change, speed and blade orbit controls, powerful, enjoyable to use, comes in a good case, a real quality product. There may be other (probably more expensive) jigsaws out there for professional use, but for a home workshop jigsaw I don't think the Bosch 1590EVSK can be beat.

I started with a low-level Skil saw, moved up to a mid-range Black&Decker, and now this. The difference is incredible. Aside from the great quality of contruction, this saw, when using the Bosch blades, will quickly become your "goto" saw for the work that doesn't absolutely require a circular, rotary, band, table, or some other type of saw. It's accurate, comfortable, quick, and powerful. I went for the best this time and I think I got it.

Arrived on time and was as described. Best price I could find was obtained on Amazon.com. Also, no sales tax and free shipping. Have used the jigsaw and it performs flawlessly. I like the blade ejector, and the new blades load easily. Did not come with the vacuum attachment, and this option proved of marginal value when I bought it separately. Does not really catch all the sawdust. I think it is easier to "let it fly" and vacumm up afterwards. Overall a very good purchase and one I hope to use for years.

In 1946 when Albert Kaufmann an employee working for a Bosch-owned Swiss manufacturing company called Scintilla AG replaced the needle on his wife's sewing machine with a saw blade to enable him to make delicate and detailed cuts in wood, he could not imagine that he was doing history. Since 1947, when the first jigsaw was manufactured, Scintilla AG is still producing in Switzerland the best jigsaws in the world! Here is the Bosch 1590EVS to prove. It works like a Swiss watch: Precise and reliable. No offense, but I don't like power tools made in China, even by leading brands like Bosch, Dewalt, etc.

I'm an amature woodworker who builds mostly furniture items. I've owned high-end orbital jigsaws from both Dewalt and Porter Cable. Both were fine saws and I was very happy with them until I got my hands on a Bosch. Everything about this saw pleases me. It's plenty powerful enough to cut 2X framing lumber when needed. The blade change mechanism is tool-less, quick and easy on the fingers. It's the smoothest operating saw I've used, and I thought the others were good. But one of the most helpful features is that it's designed so it doesn't blow sawdust up into my eyes when I sight down the blade to the cut line. It's truly a fine piece of machinery and a joy to use.

I recently bought this model's little brother on sale at Home Depot and thought it was a pretty good saw, but the convoluted blade changing system was both annoying and dangerous, so I took it back and ordered this one for $40 more. I have no regrets.
br /
br /The 1590 lets you change blades in seconds with a single hand, allows you to adjust the shoe with the flip of a lever, and perhaps best of all, its chip blower really, really works. Cuts are as straight as is humanly possible with a jigsaw, and--if you pick up a set of Bosch's "Extra Clean" blades--smooth as well. The generously lengthy cord is also a welcome bonus. I don't think you'll find anything better in this price range.

A quality product.

This is by far the finest jigsaw I have ever used. It has a ton of helpful features such as a small blower to remove sawdust from where you are cutting, a quick-release blade system, a very nice carrying case and many others.
br /
br /Although it is tempting to go cheap on a jigsaw--some are available for as little as $40--you won't regret this purchase. I've been using this to cut 3/4" pre-finished oak flooring and it goes through it like a hot knife through butter.

this was a heck of an upgrade for me considering that i had a craftsman jigsaw before. the bosch is so smooth and balanced...its a pleasure to work with. blade changes are super easy, the dust blower works well and it has ample power to cut through whatever you are working on with the proper blade

After having a Dewalt DW331k break on me three times I gave up and got the Bosch 1590EVSK. What a difference. This jig saw does what it's asked to do with no complaints. The blade changing system is pretty much fool proof and the bevel adjustment is smooth, quick, and easy. The weight of the machine removes vibration and the variable speed motor is infinitely adjustable and sensitive to finger pressure. It's everything that a carpenter could ask for and it has a wonderfully long cord to boot. The true test will be its longevity but from the workout I have given it so far I am confident that this is one rugged and reliable tool. Goodbye Dewalt; no more junk for me.

I bought this saw because of all the great reviews. I have to say, I love this saw! The only thing is, the orbital motion doesn't seem to work, whatsoever. I returned the saw and bought a new one, and it is the same story. Has anyone else had a problem with the orbital motion on this saw?

I always heard the Bosch jigsaw was the best - they are right. This saw is fantastic. It has stablity guides for the blade so the blade stays straight even when you make a turn in thick material. AWSOME. Blades are a bit pricey.

This is my first jig saw so I have nothing to compare it to, but it cuts perfect, feels extrimelly well made and has nice features like precision control and t shank blades. The dust blower doesn't do a good job though at lower speeds. Not much of a problem though.

I've owned a DeWalt jigsaw for over 10 years and never had a problem until recently, causing the need for a replacement. I purchsed the Bosch for its name and reviews. This saw works far better than any others I have used in the past. I used it to cut some steep angles and compund cuts on a 2x12 for a recent roof project. Very powerful and cuts through like butter. Highly recommend

This saw is so much better than what I had before that I didn't know such performance was possible. Smooth fast cuts, and minimal vibration. Blade changes are a snap.
br /
br /Downside? The blade holder was not quite parallel to the body of the saw when I received it, and the manual doesn't give any way to adjust it. Oddly, the blade seemed straighter after a few dozen cuts.

Every time I use this saw I'm glad I bought it. It makes the task easier whether your sawing soft woods like cedar to harder materials like metal. Used with a set of quick clamps, it makes short work of weekend mundane task. So far, this tool has never lacked power for weekend task.

When I got the Bosch jigsaw to replace my old Black and Decker. It was the best investment I ever made. The unit itself is heavy but it runs very smoothly and fast. I can't believe how fast it cuts through a 3/4" plywood. I remembered using my old Black and Decker jigsaw (I bought from Home Depot for $49)to cut a hole to fit a kitchen sink. It took me a good 45 mins. If I had this tool, it will only take me less than 5 mins. I alway knew Bosch makes good dishwasher, who knew they make such awesome tools as well. So far, I have use it to cut plywood, pine and mahogany and it works like a champ everytime. This jigsaw is comparable to Dewalt, Makita, and Craftsman. Amazon has the best price, no tax...You won't regret owning this product.

This is a very powerful tool which accurately and quickly cuts. Coupled with the Progressor wood cutting blade, my first project with it was a pleasure. I even experimented with a couple of cuts that I normally would have used a circular saw or hand saw and was not disappointed. Along with the fact that it is a powerful machine is the fact that it gets quite warm under load where I rest my hand for guiding. Not a real problem but worth mentioning.

Now that I got your attention, here is why:
I bought the saw in July and only recently started putting it to moderate use. So far I have noticed two kinds of problems: 1). Occasionally and sporadically it would fail to start when I pull the trigger, as if the power cord is loose in the socket (it is not). Unplugging/re-plugging fixes it. Another weird symptom (maybe related to the previous one): under unpredicatable circumstances (usually under no load), the variable speed function would drop into a mysterious "x5" mode where the speed is 5x as fast or more as normal, and depressing the trigger has the effect of making it go even faster. At the same time, the speed adjustment knob still works. I did not dare to try the highest setting while fully pressing down the trigger! Again, the only way to get it out of this mode is to unplug the cord. 2). The precision control feature is as much a liability as a benefit. When engaging, the two retaining fingers tend to move different distances and therefore exert uneven forces on the blade, which bends the blade to one side off the vertical line. The layout seems to be symetrical but the operation is not. Furthermore, I think this is a bad design. Allowing two metal pieces touching the blade generates heat even under no load. Overheating might be a big factor in the blade lifespan. A roller type mechanism makes much more sense. I am an engineer and find it hard to accept a poorly designed feature, especially one that the manufacturer makes a selling point. I started to talk with the local Bosch service center and see if they can get at least 1) resolved, but due to the sporadic nature of the symtoms I have not taken the saw to them to look at. I will update this review as the events unfold...

GREAT Saw, can be used in lieu of a circular saw and can cut through anything ! But the blades take practice changing !
br /
br /The secret is the blades and Bosch now makes the blades available for different manufacturer jig and saber saws.
br /
br /Let me say there has never been any piece of wood or board this thing hasn't been able to rip through, I've even cut down mid size tree and the stump with the rough wood blade.
br /
br /The variable speed trigger is smooth so you can use this saw for fine craft work too.
br /
br /Just like every other reviewer, I have to reiterate the blades are tedious to change, it is a tool less system that has to be finessed. TIP: When it arrives and you've made a few cuts, practice removing and replacing the blades until you have the routine down. This is important because the blade will warble if it isn't tight, this happened to us but no one was injured.
br /
br /If you already have a nice jigsaw and want the same cutting power, see if Bosch is offering their blades for your model, the bi-opposition teeth design is the real secret.

This was the first time I had used a jig saw. And it was for purposes of nailing down solid hardwood flooring at home. The 3 blades that accompany the jigsaw are also good. Cutting angles was not as clean as say a miter saw. But all in all, its a great multi-purpose tool.

If you need square cuts then don't buy this tool. I bought it and started using it thinking it was a fine tool. That was until I noticed that the cuts were all skewed to the left. Almost 1/8" in 1-1/2" thick material. I looked for an adjustment to compensate and there is none so I returned the tool to Bosch who gave me another. We all thought the base plate was defective on that one, however the replacement had the same issue. After a lot of time with it, I noticed that when the guides are locked on the blade, they pull it left towards the locking button.

At the Bosch service center they tried another and it had the same issue. Of course they tried every excuse from "what's the big deal" to "it's the (bosch brand) blades" to shaking they're head at me, but when I asked why pay for a Bosch when I can get out-of-square cuts from a $39.00 jig saw, they shut up.

If you need to do good work, this aint the saw. Everything else was really great, but I ultimately bought it for good cuts. Maybe someday their engineering will realize that the locking mechanism is flawed. Maybe not.

My real rating is a zero.

I have the "Original" version of this saw which I paid less than advertised here for. It's Swiss made. All of a sudden Bosch is making these in China and selling for more!

Of course they have to charge the same or more or the arguement that "it's the same tool" would fall flat. It isn't. China has a track record of cutting corners where ever and how ever possible. History has proven China made products will fail sooner.

Converseley I had an earlier version of the Swiss made for over 15 years with no problems and only upgraded as this one had nicer features.

It must be noted this is not the same tool! Expect a Made in China label and all the disapointment to follow along with.

Beware, Be Warned, Be Careful!

When I say "it's not that good", of course I mean its good, it's Swiss after all. But for $157.00 I could buy two Ryobis. Sure, the Ryobi tool is lighter, a little rougher running, but the base plate is very similar and smooth/non-maring, it comes with the little dust collection do-dad (extra accessory for the Bosch) it comes with a stout edge guide (extra accessory for the Bosch) and the case is solid, if a bit bigger. The Ryobi only comes with one general purpose blade, but it does a passable job and let's face it, you're not likely to be doing any fine wood working with a jig saw. You're going to cut some curves in a sheet of plywood or round the corners off some shelving or something, not build fabulous fine furniture. Oh, and did I mention the Ryobi has a scrolling knob and is about $67.00? Sheesh, I just think a Cadillac jig saw should at least come with an edge guide. I'm underwhelmed.

After waiting for some time to place an order, I finally pulled the trigger and ordered one. The reason I waited was because I had read some comments here that the manufacturing of this tool had moved to China. After checking the prices out, I identified the merchant I wanted to use and contacted them to see where the Jigsaw was made. One of their employees pulled a box and told me that it said made in Switzerland. I placed the order and on the tag containing the SN, it clearly states it is made Switzerland. I have only used if for a few days, but it appears to be exactly what I wanted.
