I hate jigsaws, they junp all over the place, the blades are a pain to change, and the cut is crappy. but this saw is amazing. I have owned this saw for two years now and it has completely changed my view of the jigsaw. first it is smooth, so smooth you could call it smoooove.....the variable speed is great and it doesn't jump around at all. second, the blade changes are so fast and ridiculously easy that I will never again use a dull blade or the wrong blade just because I'm in a hurry. third and most importantly, because it makes the most beautiful cut I have ever seen from a saw of this type. I cut a piece a plexiglass with it the otherday and it cut like butter and there was not one gouge in the cut surface and not one chip on the edge it was perfectly smooth and square and it was so easy to control I nearly cried. It seems like every time I put this saw away I forget a little just how nice it is and then rediscover it and marvel at it each time I take it out....it's that good. buy it!

I have used many different jig saws in the past, although all were top handle models. The barrel grip Bosch is the finest unit I have used. The control with the barrel grip is far superior to top handle models. Cutting is superb and intricate scrolling work is no problem for this saw. The tool-less blade change system is the best around, and in orbital mode this thing will rip through wood like a beaver on steroids! The only drawbacks are that with the slide switch instead of a trigger you give up a little on ease of speed control, although the rear speed control is easy to reach. Also the dust blower only works really well at higher speeds. If you need a jig saw then you need a Bosch, and if you want precise control then try the barrel grip as it is a truly outstanding tool.

This is only my second jig saw, but coming from a black and decker jig saw I may be a little too easily impressed. But this jig saw is incredible. It has great control, and depending on the selected orbital action, it will either make very clean cuts and cut, in the words of another reviewer, like a beaver on steroids.
br /
br /With the anti-splinter insert, I got no tearout on birch plywood. I highly recommend this jig saw!

Even though the older, very capable model is now available at discount, I splurged for the new 1591EVSK with the case. I opted for the Amazon credit card and free shipping for a total of $159. It is a replacement for a Sears unit that just turned 40.
br /
br /Smooth, quiet, precise; can't ask for more. The barrel grip is very good at controlling all that weight and power. The Bosch blades are really nice (I really wanted that 30-blade assortment that is not available at this time). Blade changes are easy and will make it more likely that users will switch to the proper blade during different phases of a project.
br /
br /The on-off switch is pretty clumsy and the fan action is a little weak at low speeds. Still, this is a great tool and is highly recommended.

br /
br /This is the most accurate barrel grip we have in our cabinet and door company. This tool is just outstanding! I have a small problem with my right hand, turning my wrist is getting harder the more I build!
br /
br /The ease of this tool in rotation gives me dead on cuts every time. If your working out a large template on a 4 X 8 sheet of 9 ply not a problem this tool will eat wood all day long!
br /
br /The very problem most cabinet makers have is the saw dust getting on the cut line... Not with this tool. Directional air blows the lines clean for a perfect cut every time!

Having always used top handle jig saws in the past,
br /I thought I would replace my stolen jig saw with
br /this inovative barrel grip style.
br /It is everything as advertised. The barrel grip is
br /easy to hold and control, better in my opinion that
br /top handle styles. This saw is powerful and easily powers
br /through stock.
br /The only thing I could suggest improvement on is the Power
br /Switch. It is a thin surface mounted switch that is a bit
br /difficult to operate. For me, in one handed operation, it requires me to extend my thumb an unnatural distance to turn
br /it on and the same to turn it off. So with the saw running, I
br /have to extend my arm and contortion my thumb to turn it off.
br /This issue is minor trust me, the saw in total more than makes
br /up for it.

I install cabinets for a living, so I like to buy tools that will last which is why I chose Bosch, the saw works great making nice steady cuts. The plastic boot that was supplied for the base had rough edges which will gouge up any finish the cord is too long if youwant to use the case.
br / The body is very long making it tough to use in confined spaces, still haven't gotten use to the always on feature, meaning switch on or switch off, no trigger.
Blade guides do not "reciprocate"

The blade guides, called "reciprocating pawls" by another reviewer, do not reciprocate. They can be adjusted a tiny bit, with an allen bolt, so they do not pinch tightly onto the blade. In operation, they can be opened or closed with a red lever on the port side of the saw. The controls are well laid out for each function. The blade guides are a bit above the workpiece, and a bit bigger than the Festool Trion, and the whole saw is close toa pound heavier and bigger. While the Trion is about $100 more then the Bosch 1591, it is the smaller size, smoothness, lightness, and fitment/design, that got this old carpenter with arthritis to spring for the Festool. The Bosch is still a wonderful deal... and I borrow a buddies on the jobsite whenever he isn't looking! I give it only one-half star less the the 5 star Festool. 4.5 out of 5.0.

I've owned jig saws for a lot of years and one of Bosch's for most of them. My last Bosch saw, maybe seven years old just would never die. I bought a new one because it was dropped and the base broke.....a good reason to upgrade. The upgraded blade change system, and the guide that better supports the blade made the upgrade worth while.
br /
br /This is my first barrel grip saw. I thought an old dog should try a new trick. It takes a little getting used to but works well.......although at this point I still might prefer the standard top grip model. I wish the saw was a little lighter...but I might just be getting old. The case the saw comes in is thin plastic, cheezy..........thumbs down. Great saw, highly recommended.

I just can't get over this saw! While I didn't know it at the time, the jigsaws I've used in the past were primitive pieces of junk. This saw is incredibly smooth when running. The body grip style keeps your hand low to the work such that pushing the saw through wood is very natural feeling. It is so comfortable you will find yourself effortlessly doing scroll work even in hard woods.
br /
br /The tool-free adjustable foot and "One Touch Blade Change" are awesome. The 1591 has plenty of power to cut through thick stock and the orbital action can make for some very aggressive cutting. The electronic speed control maintains a constant stroke rate.
br /
br /Combined with Bosch's great Progressor blades the saw makes unbelievably smooth cuts. I was stunned to see how smooth the cuts were...almost as good my cherished bandsaw. A little sanding and voila! instant gratification.
br /
br /If you're in the market for a jigsaw, grab this and have the time of your life making sawdust. Highly recommended.

Someone finally got it right!
br /
br /Starting with the blade install/removal. You push the blade into place. That's it, no tools, no twists, no turns or other mechanicions. Removal is even easier! Slide the release lever and the blade is ejected! This is the perfect blade handling system!!
br /
br /The barrel design offers better control than traditional "top handle" models. For some this may be a matter of preference. This tool is an extension of my hand.
br /
br /The (retractable) blade guide offers excellent stability for the blade. This is especially useful when cutting thicker (over 3/4") stock. This feature greatly reduces the blades tendency to "wonder" to the outside of a curve cut. This feature would typically not be used for sheet metal.
br /
br /At over 6 amps, the 1591 is among the most powerful jig saws made. Despite the power, this unit is relatively vibration free. This is especially important for a barrel grip design, where you are basically holding the motor body. I have found this tool to be powerful enough to replace many reciprocating saw applications, while offering lighter weight and greater control.
br /
br /The lone drawback to this design is the slide switch. While the speed is thumb wheel variable, it does not offer the variable speed trigger, common in top handle models (aka Bosch 1590). I have (and love) both models, but usually reach for the barrel grip model.
br /
br /If a variable speed trigger were available on the barrel grip model, the saw would be perfect.

I used the PC 9543 for several years, but could never find away around the sawdust being blown up into my face. Its a really great saw, except for that and the blade change. I bought the Bosch because I was taking on a project that required a lot of jig sawing and finally got fed up with the PC dust blower.
br /
br /Of all my power hand tools, that was by far the best purchase I've made. The Bosch cuts smoothly and cleanly and handling the barrel grip is easily and it responds quickly to changes in direction. There is no dust blown up in your eyes, and the blade change is easy and intuitive. It is an overall excellent jigsaw and well worth the money.

Had worried about shaking the tiles off of the wall, but there was hardly any vibration.

I've never really liked jigsaws. I thought of them as being crude, imprecise thugs of the tool world, noisily hacking their way through material and breaking blades randomly. I recently started a project that required scrollwork and thought, time to bite the bullet and buy a real jigsaw, and as I'm very happy with my other Bosch tools I went with this unit.
br /
br /
br /I have to say I love everything about it. I love the weight, which keeps the tool in the material. Plenty of power for heavy materials (I was working with 2x6). The grips are very nice. Balance is good. The blade changing is genius, and I love the arms that grip the sides of the blade to keep it straight, which address my biggest objection to jigsaws, bending blades. Speaking of blades, the Bosch blades are top quality. The carry case is quite good.
br /

br /Overall, a very good investment.

If you are reading this review, you probably already like to work on household projects; but, this saw makes you really look forward to them. I have used this to cut all kinds of materials in several projects. There are many blades available and this cuts straight with no vibrations. I had previously bought a Skil jigsaw for half the price at a box store and it lasted me a year or two. It is obvious that this jigsaw will be around a while. The cord is extra long so you can move around a bit without dragging an extension cord with you. It took a little while to get used to but I am a big fan of the barrel grip now.

This jigsaw is one of the best cutting tools in my shop. It cuts through 3/4 plywood with ease. The design allows the user to grip the tool close to the cut allowing for more control. Most times I am using just slight pressure from my index finger or my thumb to guide the blade along my cut line. The motor is strong enough to safely and cleanly cut through any material within it's design range. (As a result it is loud so wear earplugs!) Changing blades is effortless. Air from the internal cooling fan is directed to blow dust away from the cut line.
br /
br /The saw is heavy but I see that as a plus since it improves stability. I never notice the weight while I am cutting. This saw, simply put, is just a joy to use.
br /
br /The only disappointment is the case. It is flimsy and cheap. Do what I did, toss it and go buy a $20 metal tool case to store your new jig saw and bits. You're going to need the metal case to last as long as this saw potentially will.

Sawing for a short period of time is very acceptable but with prolonged use (over an half hour) the motor heats up so hot that you can barely hold onto the saw. A cool down period of up to 20 min is adequate for another 10 or minutes use, then the heating up begins again. Never had this trouble with any other jig saw but might have to do with the fact that you are holding this saw by the motor, not some accessory handle. Like the blade changing, best I have used but the heat is not acceptable.

This barrel grip jig saw has replaced my old trusty, (but clumsy) Craftsman top handle saw and I can't believe how much I LOVE this tool. First it just feels good in the hand. Heavy enough to keep it steady and on track, it doesn't jump around like my old Sears one did. No matter where you grip this thing you have complete control going around circles in either direction. It's built like a tank and, of course, the instant blade changing just makes me smile every time I need to do it. It's actually fun to use a tool that works this good. I've only used it on plywood so far but it flies through it like butter with the course blades. Leaves a nice smooth cut but with the big tooth blades there was some chip out which can be eliminated by changing the orbit setting. A great tool that would satisfy all who love tools. Highly recommended.

I came to this jigsaw from an older BD Professional. That was not a bad saw, but the lateral blade support was not in the same caliber as this one's.
br /
br /The smoothness is also unrivalled, as is the blade change mechanism. I never realized how sweet the electronic speed control would be until I'd used it. One simply sets the right speed, switches the saw on, and goes to work. It simply doesn't slow down under load due to the beefy 6.4 A motor.
br /
br /The only time I'd recommend against the barrel grip version is if you do a lot of vertical cutting. In that position, this saw is harder to hold onto, because the motor is so big in diameter. When working flat, it is not na issue.
br /
br /The dust blower works great too; no more huffing and puffing trying to keep the cut line clear. The cord is a high grade rubber one that doesn't get all stiff when it is cold. This may just be my last jigsaw. (and I'm only 31)

br /
br /A saw this accurate becomes much more versatile than a typical jigsaw. The other reviews are dead-on and this one is worth the money. They helped me make the decision to buy this after trying a DeWalt that had very poor blade support.
br /
br /The precision blade guide system is indeed extraordinarily effective and with the right blade keeps the blade from wandering. I did not think it was possible for a jigsaw to be this precise.
br /
br /The case is in my opinion completely adequate (unlike another review)
br /
br /Lastly, the saw is actually made in Switzerland. When was the last time you saw a power tool made in Switzerland?

I used to be a union carpenter, 22 years, but got into other business for a dozen years or so. Back in the day the Bosch jig saw was all that we used. I did all comercial work, a lot of metal cutting. The Bosch would cut steel raised floor panels all day long without a wimper. After My dozen years in the Tavern business I am back doing construction, handyman type things. Not necessarily real small jobs, but certainly diverse.
br /
br /A couple of years ago I bought a Bosch knock-off jig saw made by Grizzly. Not a bad saw for the price, but definately not a Bosch. I got a job where I was going to have to do some rather fancy cuts requiring a jig saw so I decided to acquire a new Bosch. I had never used a barrel grip before but it seemed it would be even more controlable than the handled type. I love it. Easy to control, square cuts, very low vibration, easy blade changes. Great tool. Took a little getting used to the power switch, but not a problem.

This saw rocks! I bought it to cut decorative ends in some framing lumber for an outdoor project. Material changed to pressure treated during the planning stage. I was amazed at how effortlessly it made the cuts. The saw is on the heavy side, which I found to be a benefit. It helped dampen vibration. The blower didn't keep up with the wet pt saw dust, but that didn't surprise me. Only downside (if you can call it that) was that I pulled the saw out of a curve I was making and the blade hit the board so hard, it actually bent the blade! I blame that more on operator error than the tool's fault, but its something to keep in mind.
Best tool in my garage... and I have a lot of tools!

I honestly do not know what I'd do without this jig saw. I've always hated jig saws, proabably due to ones I've owned in the past that have been terrible. With the right blades and settings, this jigsaw is one of the most versatile tools I've ever owned. I've used it to trim laminate flooring (laminate blade), cut through plywood (rough wood blade), trim fencing (fine cut wood blade), and many other items. It is very natural to hold in almost any position needed. The only downside is that it could be too heavy for constant cutting above your head. Maybe I need to work out more, but it's definitely a heavy-duty jig saw that can deal with almost anything you throw at it (with the right blade on it!).
You've gotta have one of these!

This is the best jig saw on the market, considering price/value. I researched many brands and kept returning to Bosch because of the reputation of the brand. The barrel grip configuration is very comfortable to use; it gives me better control over cuts, especially when scrolling. The adjustments on the saw give you the capability to vary the cut from very fine to very aggressive; blade control is excellent. I'm a woodworker, so I purchased Bosch T30W 30pc Woodworking Jigsaw Set when I ordered this jig saw.
Bosch 1591EVSK is the finest.

I am a woodworker and this 1591 is the finest jig saw that i have ever used. It is powerful and it is accurate. The blade guides are very similar to what you would find on a band saw making it possible to split a pencil line and have a true 90 degree cut.
br /
br /With the correct blade, I believe you can cut just about anything in any shape that you want to.
br /
br /I chose the 1591 over the 1590 because I find the barrel grip suites me better for the majority of my tasks.

Surprised how good it is...

I needed more horsepower in a jigsaw than the small Makita I have had for years. I was really questioning the barrel grip, but because of the good ratings, I ordered this one over the the one with the standard handle. When it came out of the box, it felt too heavy/ackward in my hand, and I was afraid I had made a mistake. But as soon as I tried it out, I was extremely impressed. It felt good in my hand (I have small hands). The control was excellent, and I like the blower that blows the dust out of the way, although you may want to sometimes wear goggles. The quality of control and cut is excellent. I know it is a lot of $$, but if you do much jig sawing or need high quality cuts, it is worth it.

I needed a new scroll saw, and I decided to take the plunge on a barrel grip design. I'll admit the grip feels a little weird the first couple of times you use it, but once you do, you'll never want to go back. I found it very comfortable and accurate. After awhile, you'll begin to realize that it is a much more natural grip that offers far better control than the traditional grips. And let's face it: if you're breaking out the scroll saw, you're usually doing it because you need to make a precise, controlled cut. In that department, this saw excels.

br /I was also pleased with the blade-changing feature. It is far simpler than changing the blade on my old hand-me-down saw. To remove a blade, simply slide the switch on the front. To insert a blade, simply press it in. How much simpler could it be?
br /
br /The saw comes with a case, and 3 blades (metal, speed wood, precision wood). The only quibble I have is the location of the power button. If you're right handed, the switch is below your thumb on the left side of the device. That means while the saw is running, you'll have to turn it off with your left hand which can be awkward.
More expensive than others, but worth it

This is the second one that I have purchased. I was very happy with the first one, but it got stolen. So I did not even look at other ones in the market, some costing about 2/3 of this item, and went ahead and ordered this second one. So far so good
Perfect for the use intended

The saw was purchased to cut 1/8" mild steel sheet. I produce Metal Sculpture Instructional videos and was looking for a reasonably priced tool to cut steel. Not all the people who use my videos can justify the price of a plasma cutter. Using the right blade and the right speed, this saw marches right through the 1/8" material. It produces a fine cut which saves time when fitting parts together to be brazed or welded.
br /
br /Not only is there a dramatic costs saving for the initial investment compared to a plasma cutter, the costs of the expendable tips and nozzles for the plasma cutter are expensive, especially when compared to the price of saw blades.

The two main reasons I ordered the Bosh 1591 EVSK Barrel Grip was the extra control the lower center of gravity on the barrel would provide for guiding accuracy in the cut and the precision carbide faced guides that would ensure a 90 degree angle to maximize speaker rim contact with baffle boards I'm cutting.
br /Within three inches of the cut the left precision guide reciprocating pawl froze forcing the 20 tooth fine blade out and to the right of the cut spoiling the Baltic Birch 1/2 inch baffle board, melting and mangling the plastic splinter, guard and burning the blade.
br /I called Bosh and they recommended sending it back to Amazon.com for exchange but I prefered a refund because the way it appears to me the precision guides shouldn't need to reciprocate with the pendulumn set to fine straight cut which is where I'd have for that fussy of a use.
br /A far better approach would be fixed guides manually set so that the blade wouldn't veer and it'd be a much simpler design.
br /I ended up using my ancient Sears Junk saw to salvage the project but I'm considering the Festool Trion Jig Saw that features their static presision guides.

GREAT Saw, can be used in lieu of a circular saw and can cut through anything ! But the blades take practice changing !

br /The secret is the blades and Bosch now makes the blades available for different manufacturer jig and saber saws.
br /
br /Let me say there has never been any piece of wood or board this thing hasn't been able to rip through, I've even cut down mid size tree and the stump with the rough wood blade.
br /
br /The variable speed trigger is smooth so you can use this saw for fine craft work too.
br /
br /Just like every other reviewer, I have to reiterate the blades are tedious to change, it is a tool less system that has to be finessed. TIP: When it arrives and you've made a few cuts, practice removing and replacing the blades until you have the routine down. This is important because the blade will warble if it isn't tight, this happened to us but no one was injured.
br /
br /If you already have a nice jigsaw and want the same cutting power, see if Bosch is offering their blades for your model, the bi-opposition teeth design is the real secret.

I have not used my Bosch Jig saw as of yet on any of my home improvement projects. However, I did operate the tool once I received it and I surely liked the feel of the barrel in my hand and the more control and eaze of the cutting motion. In addition it comes with a case and I think that is extremely important when you want to keep your tool in lasting condition and some what dust free. I felt it was definitely worth the purchase, and I highly recommend for anyone looking to up grade their current jig saw. Thanks to Amazon.com for offering this product and others at such a great price.

Pergo is not my first choice but they are the best solution because I don't want to be sure to have perfectly level floors before laying tiles. DIY is cheaper in the end but it certainly doesn't feel like it during the shopping process.

br /I have a giant frightening fake wood kitchen cabinet that must be removed and it is too heavy to be salvaged so I am going to cut slices out of it.
