I am a hardwood flooring contractor. I have used just about every saw out their in my 25 years in the flooring buisness. This mitre saw, just flat out beats the rest, I have been a big Makita fan for years. The 10" Dewalt is more accurate and is as smooth cutting of a saw, I have ever used. This saw is a must for the professional. You won't be dissapointed.

A very portable solid saw. Looked at all the others like Delta, Craftsman, etc. and this saw was lighter than the rest. A must for me because it gets moved around alot. Also, the numbers on the miter gauge were not made of cardboard and tacked on like on other saws but, made of metal and easier to zero in on. A friend of mine had his Craftsman gauge fall off after only one week on the jobsite. I looked at many different saws and the DeWalt 703 saw is just built better and able to do more than the competition. Some other companies make lesser expensive saws but, you get what you pay for. Spend a little more and get the DeWalt. You won't regret it.

After using this saw heavily for over a year (both for rough construction and woodworking), it's time for an honest review. This saw certainly is a great value, but it helps to know its little quirks, to get the most benefit from it. For general construction and framing, the miter and bevel settings are not too critical, and they were accurate out of the box for me. To cut a 4x4, you only need to manually raise the blade guard and hold it up, to get the workpiece up against the fence for cutting. The supplied blade will cut tons of softwood for framing, and the saw's portability makes it easy to carry anywhere. For woodworking, however, you will probably want to zero the miter and bevel adjustments for best results. The manual recommends using a square to check the blade's angle for the bevel, but you will discover that it's next to impossible to raise the blade guard, hold a square, and adjust the locking nut and bolt, all at the same time. A much better method is to cut a 2x6 and then flip one side upside down, putting the cut end up against the other cut end. If the bevel is not square, there will be a gap at either the top or bottom of the cut sides, and you can adjust the locking nut and bolt to eliminate the gap. In the same way, the miter adjustment can be checked by crosscutting a 2x6, flipping one side, and checking for gaps against the fence, or facing the operator. If you plan to make picture frames, router templates, etc., you can get both the miter and bevel accurate enough to perfectly crosscut an 11" wide workpiece, simply by flipping the workpiece upside down, after cutting one side. But don't expect to do this on the "out of the box" settings! DeWalt should be commended for making such a quality saw at a reasonable price, and whether for construction or woodworking, you will not be disappointed with this one.

Bought this saw as my first compound mitre. Have used radial arm saws and table saws before but wanted a saw to do tight miters for small box making. The first thing I did was replace the blade with a red "tkr" 80 tooth ultra fine cut blade and have been happy with the smoothness of cuts since. I have found on small work like this it is necessary to ALWAYS check angles on this saw before cutting as the built in guage allows enought play to make miter corners on small items look sloppy. It is very difficult to clamp anything on this saw as the fence is short and irregular in the back. length stops are available but are rather expensive. In retrospect I should have paid up to begin with and gotten a more expensive saw with more features for what I am doing. I think any of the clamps for this tool are special order as I cannot find them at any local stores. Also the dewalt clamps for their bigger miter saws do not fit this model correctly. Another thing to know is the dust collection on this saw is worthless if you are using the bag provided with the saw but not too bad if you hook it up to a vacuum (however the fitting is not a standard shop vac size and the hose is a bit loose in the saw's fitting. I cannot speak for the ability of this saw to cut moulding as this is not what I used it to do. A last observation: When I do replace this saw I will get a sliding compound miter as I quickly learned that the 6 inch cut width can be limiting. Especially if you are used to more flexability with a radial arm saw.

My 22 year old dewalt power miter saw was starting to show it's age, it's lack of compound mitering prevented me from cutting the large base and crown moldings common to new home constuction. I wanted another Dewalt but didn't want the size and weight of a 12 inch saw, I looked at other brands and visit tool forums and read all the reviews and still couldn't decide. Then dewalt cane out with the DW703. I checked it out at the stores read all the reviews and finally bought. I love it, first thing I did was to put a First quality precision trim blade on it do some very minor adjustments with a square and buy the crown molding stops. If your like me and have to cut a wide variety of different types of trim and need to set up work packup and move several times a day you need a saw thats powerful accurate and easy to transport, then the DW703 might be the saw for you the built in handle makes it a breeze to carry and it's small foot print doesn't take up much room in the back of your truck.

This saw replaced a Ryobi 10" miter saw that was highly recommeneded to me at Home Depot and which lasted a little over a year before the motor gave out. The DeWalt is on an entirely different level of home power tool. The quality of construction, ease of use (especially setting the miter table), excellent included blade, and the power and accuracy of the tool makes me wish I'd spent the extra money for this saw when I listened to the idiot at Home Depot. I'm using it for everything from light trim to 4X4s and rafters and have no complaints. I wonder about the stock people are cutting when they say this saw has a hard time with pressure treated lumber---must be soaking wet from the treatment process. As long as you let the motor get up to speed the DeWalt with the standard blade can handle deck building with ease. I didn't calibrate it, just set it up and started cutting. I'd give it 5 stars if the basic kit came with supports and clamps (the Ryobi did), though I highly recommend buying a miter saw stand for it anyway.

I just bought my DeWalt 10" mitre saw. WOW!! Not only is this saw a "mini brute" but it is also very smooth and precise. The finish and quality of this saw are both great. The taller fence is nice for cutting support and the preset stops are very convenient. The smoothness and ease of the table adjusments make this saw easy to use. This is definitely one saw to consider! Bravo, DeWalt!

I bought this saw last Summer and have used it nearly every week since. I have been using to cut coping, crowns, molding, door jams, wanscotting, PVC/CPVC piping... you name it.
br /
br /Here the benefits:
br /
br /- It has ALWAYS worked, and worked well.
br /
br /- Original blade has stayed sharp for hundreds of cuts.
br /
br /- Blade stops fairly quickly when trigger is released (yes, there are faster-stoppping blade mechanisms out there.)
br /
br /- Fairly easy to carry one-handed, and can fit through interior doorways.
br /
br /- Arm can be locked/stowed in the down position for carrying and protecting the blade within the kerf.
br /
br /- Kerf is easily replacable.
br /
br /Dislikes:
br /
br /- I bent the fence. I didn't know I could, and I certainly didn't know I could with a hand-sized piece of soft pine! (The blade hit a cement-like knot in the wood and rammed it into the left fence, bending it a 16th of an inch.)
br /
br /- Unless the saw in on the edge of the bench you will find the miter release clip nearly touching the benchtop. I was using this saw on the floor and found the clip to bit awkward to press. (Nothing major, just an annoyance.)
br /
br /- TRUE miter cuts are not out-of-the-box. I suggest buying a GOOD miter gauge and setting your blade to the gauge, NOT theirs. Mine is less than 1-degree off (and that's before I bent the fence.) My 45's were more like 44.7's. Now I set the blade to the gauge and there is no problem.
br /
br /- I could use another foot or two on the cord. I know 99% of use use it with an extension cord, but what would it hurt to give us another 50-cents in wire anyway?
br /
br /I HIGHLY recommend this saw for all of the do-it-yourselfers out there. Just remember to get a fine-toothed blade for those finnishing cuts.

My wife bought this saw for me as a Christmas gift to replace an ancient BD miter saw before starting some comprehensive home renovation projects. She based her choice on experience with other DeWalt that we own and we were not disappointed. I've used it to cut oak flooring and molding, treated deck lumber - even 4X4s, PVC, and various other wood materials. If I did it again however, I would go with the 12" saw.
br /
br /What's good:
br /
br /Power - No jams or binding
br /Accuracy - Clean even cuts, accurate miter and bevel cuts
br /Portability - The saw locks nicely and the two handles provide for easy manipulation
br /Durability - After 5 years, the thing is as powerful and accurate as the day I bought it.
br /Price - It's a good middle-of-the road price and a great value
br /
br /What's not so good:
br /
br /Dust bag - Maybe it's just me, but the thing is a nuisance. It falls out a lot, clogs and has presented clearance problems in some locations.

Just picked up the DW703 to do some hardwood mouldings around the house. I liked all the preset stops and easy angle adjustments. I put on a 60 tooth blade, and it just flys through the wood. The cuts are so smooth, it's like the wood doesn't even know what happened to it!pThe things that I would reccommend are the adjustable work rest and the clamp. I didn't see either of them at Lowes at the time I bought the saw, so maybe an online purchase only.

I purchased this miter saw after searching every hardware store for different brands. I realized none could top this one. It is a solid saw that is accurately set up from the factory, is easy to operate and has solid fast miter settings. The compound pointer had to be adjusted slightly, the 45 degree setting was off a little and needed fine tuning. Once set, there should be no need to change these settings again. I will be happy if this is all that this saw will need. It is well made! A great value! Happy to find it on Amazon.com

Very tight, and set up properly right out of the box, this saw is a pleasure to use. High fence, easy-to-read gauge, simple vernier and no play in the table makes complex moulding and cabinetry cuts a breeze. I was concerned that the light weight might be a sign of skimping, but it's engineered well to give a good, rigid platform and still be a lightweight saw. My only regret is that I suffered for so long with my old saw!

I got this saw as a replacement for my Delta 10" miter saw. Moveable fence is great for beveled cuts. Design maximizes the ability to cut large crown molding. Dust collection could be better. After re-doing baseboards and door casings in my house, the garage is completely covered in sawdust.

Power is good (takes a few seconds to come totally up to speed) and included blade is better than expected - I got additional blade at initial purchase becuase I assumed like most saws the included blade would be crap but standard blade is good general purpose. Dust collection sucks, though some reviewers have not been as "candid." Does not fit any standard dust collection connection I know of (i.e. have) [update - I did find an adapter for my shop-vac that almost matches the dust nozzle so with a little duct tape it is a very workable solution], and the provided "bag" holds enough dust to be worth a Tinker's "Damn." For an extra $50 next time I would go for 12" for the extra height on miter cuts concurring with other review that says guard (and dust bag) get in the way sometimes.
br /
br /Though table seemeed expensive I bought it anyway (needed portable platform for job-site) and it was definitely worth it. Extendable supports are convenient (wouldn't say "invaluable" because I avoid hyperbole ;-) for long pieces of molding, flooring 2x's for framing. If you clamp the saw past the stops and extend one end support to limit you can handle 12' cuts. Haven't seen a need for sliding as I always need a table saw for long rips, so having short slide doesn't eliminate an extra tool. Laser might be nice, but I guess I trust my eye and a solid pencil line enough...

This saw does everything it's supposed to do and the price is great. The only reason I didn't give it five stars is that dust collection isn't very good, but it's not a huge problem and it's probably no worse than other similar saws. Just be sure to empty the dust collection bag often and it will minimize the problem. I've had this saw for a little over a year and it has always performed very well. I've even been able to cut 4x4 stock with one cut and without any problems.

I love this saw! I originally got it to install trim and crown in my new house. Since then I have worked it hard. I built an addition to our house and I've got to tell you I hardly touched my circular saw. I've also helped a couple of friends trim out their houses as well. This saw came ready to go right out of the box with dead on accuracy and has maintained it through all of the use. (I check it often to be sure) It is easy to set angles and bevels with easy to ready markings and smooth operation. The bevel has positive stop screws for easy repetition of bevel cuts throughout a project. It has plenty of power and the supplied blade cuts clean and smooth. The handle and trigger are comfortable. Dust collection bag works well though small. I usually hook up my shop-vac to the dust port for little to no dusty mess. Combine this saw with a miter stand Shopmaster by Delta SM105WS Miter Saw Stand and crown stops DEWALT DW7084 Crown Stops, DW703, DW706 DW708 and you have a versatile, portable powerhouse of a miter station!

The only thing I wish it had was a laser. That's why only 4 stars. I purchased the Irwin laser attachment to use with this lightweight miter saw. I also believe the sawdust bag is usless and I attach it to the vac when I use the saw. I own the 12" Dewalt and selected this one as I keep my power tools in the basement. The 12" is much heavier and carrying this one up the stairs is much easier when I do work in the yard. Like all saws, one must select a blade for the application. Therefore, if you are going to spend the money on this saw, then either purchase or already own additional blades. On that note, Dewalt should include the tool for releasing the blade guard.

Always finding them too expensive I had never hoped to buy a compound miter saw. But the apparent quality of a nice looking Delta for $79.00 was hard to pass up, though I knew something was probably wrong and then I would be hooked on the dam thing. Sure enough, the value of a too-cheap to be true saw was revealed in the angle cuts. The machine was obviously Not True, so I returned it and started some more serious looking, this time with a square in my pocket. Measuring shelf displays only gives a rough idea, but it's a start, I.E. I got suspicious of any saw minus a blade or that had a bolted-on display blocking the throat. When I spotted the DeWalt, it was simply the only choice for the money, bang-on accurate just sitting there. The same was true when I set it up, most impressive. It was also one of the few saws that swung beyond 45 degrees each way, I don't know if that will be important someday or not. It is also one of the only saws that has a separate steel plate for the table index, all the others are cut or cast into the base. This will be important someday. So far it's a pleasure to use, and yes, the dust collector is funky and knocks stuff over. All features are exactly as I would want, built in wrench holder, easy access to the blade, excellent finish. It seems lasers are still the new fad, but it also seems unequipped models are becoming less expensive. Maybe a "pro" could find fault, but the DW703 has my vote.
br /
br /**************
br /
br /Three years later, it's still going strong. Having now been dragged into the commercial arena, (did I say, "pro"?) this saw still dispatches itself with honor. I have used it on-site for four fences and three gates, and while the blade size is a little challenging for larger posts, the accuracy, size and durability still make it a great choice.

This Compound miter saw a great purchase. It was sharp, powerfull and easy to use. I used this saw to do trims and moldings around the house and it performed perfectly every time. (I did made some wrong angle cuts, but that was my fault). The power was great; as you drop the blade in to the wood there was no resistance. Every cut was clean and easy. The degrees and angle cuts were easy to adjust or dial to. My only regret was not buying the 12" Saw. The 12" would give me more room so I can cut 6" base moldings if I decided to do 6". A real solid piece of tool!

This is my second DW703 because my first one was stolen. I liked it so much that I never considered any other brand. The quality of the saw, the table, the adjustments, even the blade, are all top-notch. Good value for the price. Lately I've seen it for $189 at Home Depot and Lowe's. The dust collection could be better, but I just stick the shop vac hose in the back and it gets probably 60% of the dust.

I am a backyard carpenter rebuilding a deck and other home repair duties. I purchased 2 different brands at the same time -- a Ridgid (Home Depot's in-house brand) and a DeWalt -- to compare how they worked.
br /
br /The DeWalt was fully assembled, was true and could be used right out of the box.
br /
br /The Ridgid, on the other hand, had to be partially assembled, was not aligned properly, and ultimately I found it to have a bevel pivot manufacturing defect that made bevel cuts annoyingly out of true, a serious problem. If they sold it with a cut kerf plate like everyone else, you'd know the saw was aligned at the factory before it was put in the box. But they don't; you have to install the kerf plate and make your own cut. So it's left to the customer. Needless to say I took it back and kept the DeWalt.
br /
br /The DeWalt has been a real pleasure of a workhorse. True, aligned, and right on the mark. Cuts are smooth with the included blade and the saw has no kick back that I have experienced. The saw will stretch cut 4x4 and 2x6 stock. With a miter saw utility vehicle it's a seriously great tool.
br /
br /It'd be nice if the dust port worked better, if it came with a clamp which is essential (an extra $32.99), and some may like a laser but it's well worth the money. I give it a high recommendation.

Out of all of the miter saws I've looked at, this one seems to have the most solid feel to it. I like how compact it is. I can hang it on the garage wall with no problems when I'm done, and the handle is very strong and balanced.
br /
br /The design flaw that I have noticed has been mentioned by other reviewers about other DeWalt miter saws (12" models). When you lock down the table with the knob, it lifts the front of the table up. This can be really bad when mitering crown moulding. I do want to point out that, for what ever reason, this flaw is much worse with the 12" models vs. this model (10"). At Lowes, I looked at two 12" models and this one, and on the 12", it was noticable just by looking at it. On the 10", I had to look very closely, cinching down on the knob hard, and I noticed very little rise, if any at all. With that said, I don't know whether this will get worse as it ages. We'll just have to see. All that said, it still seems amazing that DeWalt missed this when designing this saw.
br /
br /Other than that, it is a very well-built saw. If I could only try out a comperable Delta to see how it compares, then I would feel better about making my decision to stay with DeWalt.

After many years of use, my old Rockwell 34-010 9" miter box could no longer hold true miters. Having recently purchased a DeWalt DW331 jig saw (see my review on this beauty), I decided on a DeWalt DW703 10" compund miter saw. Yeah I know it only compounds in one direction and it's only 10". Tell yah what though, for under $200 it's a real bargain (no lasers at this price). The saw arrived in perfect condition, spot on accurate out of the box and it now carries a sign stating "finish work only". Today I changed blades, took the standard 40 tooth off and installed a Series 20 60 tooth. That made a huge improvement in cut quality. BUT - it wicked me off something fierce changing that blade. First the manual says to "loosen guard bracket screew B until the - - ". Well, what they don't tell you is that screw B takes a Torx T30 screwdriver. How many woodworkers carry Torx drives for crying in a wood bin? DeWalt includes a flimsy arbor wrench but no Torx driver so that is one issue. Then the screw is so Factory tight that I needed to put an adjustable on the Torx driver that I spent an hour getting from the box store. By the way, loosen the other screw at the back of the bracket as well otherwise the bracket does not easily move out of the way. Would I buy the saw again - - yeah! It's really really nice.

I bought this saw approx. 5 years ago for doing all the trim in my house. It has also been used for many woodworking projects. No power tool has saved me more time than this one. It was off by a fraction of a degree out of the box. An easy adjustment. Since that simple adjustment was made 5 years ago, the saw has remained accurate. No further adjustments needed. The vertical clamp from the miter gauge for the DW746 with sliding table fits this saw. The dust collection bag is not worth much. I glued a 2 1/2" to 1 1/4" adapter into the dust port to use the saw with my shop vacuum. This sucks up most of the dust. The saw has done everything I asked of it. It is fairly compact and not too heavy - so it is easy to move around. I mounted my saw on a sheet of plywood with a 2 x 4 cleat under it, allowing it to be mounted on a WorkMate. and stored on a shelf when not in use. This has worked very well. Overall very satisfied. No complaints.

Of the units I was looking at in this price range (200) this was by far the best made of the bunch. My only complaints are it's rather spartan level of accessories included (no extensions or hold-downs). The unit worked great on the lumber I cut (both PVC and wood), nice power. Cuts are true and alignments are simple. The lack of a laser isn't a big deal, in my opinion, as most are notoriously incorrect anyway. I would definitely recommend this item.

I mabee use this saw once every two months (or less). I did however use it extensively to trim a room 4 or so years ago, and it worked very well. The dust collector might as well not exist, but as far as cutting, this saw does what it is supposed to. If you are never going to move it, get a sliding type, but if you need portability, this is not a bad choice.

This 10 in miter saw was the perfect addition to the small but growing shop we have in the garage. It came quickly, in great shape, and at an amazing price off amazon.
br /
br /-The miter gauge is easy to read, and as accurate as almost anyone would need. The detents also help, as the gauge does get covered with dust pretty quickly, and they seem accurate as well. The bevel gauge is adequate, but because of the gap between the arrow and the scale it can be hard to read without getting down on your knees and looking straight on. As some have said the arrow is flat on the top, and this line is what you line up with the scale.

br /-The saw has plenty of power, and what it can cut is clearly limited by the size of the blade, not power. There is no noticeable slowdown even in pressure treated 2x4 s, and if you keep a sharp blade on I would never expect there to be. It screams when it runs, much louder than other belt driven dewalts I have used, although this scream has slightly diminished with use.
br /
br /-The saw seems very sturdy as well, and no important or moving parts seem to be plastic. The action is very smooth all the way down and up through the stroke, and the spring seems to be well balanced. There is a kickback from the torque when started however, so don t let this startle you.
br /
br /-The guard moves mostly out of the line of sight as you bring the blade down, unless you are cutting something like 4x4 s, which it really isn't made for. although it works fine if you tape the guard up, but I wouldn't recommend this.
br /
br /-The blade that comes with it makes very quick, and relatively smooth cuts. Blade changes are easy, with the spindle lock and included wrench, and if finer work is required, a blade with more but finer teeth would be helpful.
br /
br /-Many reviews complain about the dust bag, but personally I think they expected too much. It catches about half the dust, and although this leaves a lot, it makes quite a difference too. You can always let it just spew out the spout, or hook up a dust collector if you don t like it.
br /
br /-Clamping is a little tricky, as the fence has weird nooks and crannies to work around. It is very possible, but takes a little work.
br /
br /I gave this saw a 5 out of 5 because it does what it is designed too exceptionally. It is not for a contractor, or to cut large lumber with, but for the homeowner it will cut anything 2x4 or smaller without a sweat. It also feels like it has been designed to last, and I feel perfectly confident pushing it to the limit when necessary. This saw has been a pleasure to use, and I recommend it to anyone with similar needs to mine.

Great little saw to transport around. I bought the Ryobi saw stand for 99.00 and the two combined are a great duo. I replaced the 40 tooth stock blade with a Frued 24 tooth because I am cutting treated pine, less strain on the motor and the 24 tooth last longer, cuts great. Very impressed with the quality and construction of the saw, I like the handle on top to carry it and the locking pin. Love the saw.

This miter saw is terrific! It's easy to set up and needs little or no adjustment right out of the box. I do a lot of precision miter work and found it much better than Craftsman and Ryobi models that I've previously owned.

My wife and I sold our condiminium and bought a fixer upper last year. We put laminate flooring in the condo and I did all the baseboards with the Dewalt DW703. Now in the house, we're completely redoing the bathroom. It was a no brainer to do the basboard. We put in beadboarding, and the bead board trim turned out looking very impressive. Super precise cuts and a dap of woodfiller will give truly professional looking results.

I bought this saw based on the great reviews that it had and the price. I was able to play with the display model at my local HD and was impressed by the way the saw felt. All the actions seemed appropriately tight. I was also impressed with the construction of the blade guard. My previous saw guard was flimsy and ended up being more of a hazard as opposed to a guard. Setup simply required removing the plastic bag wrapped around it and attaching the rather useless dust bag. No adjustment was needed.
br /
br /I have made quite a few cuts on this saw now and I'm impressed with its performance. The cuts are precise and rather smooth using the included blade. There is no doubt that cutting performance could be improved by a higher quality blade, and I will do that in the near future.
br /
br /The reason I gave this saw 4 stars is because of one drawback that's not obvious until you actually use the saw. When you activate the switch the saw has so much torque that it is practically at full speed instantly. While high torque may be good in some circumstances, it seems that this is the extreme. This takes some getting used to and still gets my attention every time I pull the trigger. I wish I could have considered this before I purchased the saw.
br /
br /If DeWalt would implement a softer start, this would easily be a 5 star saw.
Excellent choice!

I'm extremely pleased with the DeWalt miter saw...as I am with all the DeWalt tools I own. Excellent construction, very smooth operation, easy to adjust, and excellent functionality. As with any miter saw, cutting long pieces of lumber is difficult due to the short base the wood rests on. However, the versatility of taking this saw anywhere overcomes any drawbacks it has. It's not exactly "light", but it is relatively easy to carry and has a very sturdy handle for transporting it. If you want quality, buy DeWalt. Hands down, the best tools made.

I received this model for Christmas and immediately put it to use building tables for other tools I received. pMostly all I used it on was stud-grade 2x4's but it handled it with no problems. The automatic brake on the motor is a nice change after using table saws and power saws whose motors continue to whine for seconds after releasing the trigger. pI did find the dust collector all but useless as I still had to sweep up a good bit. pThe bevel and angle adjustments seem backwards from other tools I've used, so I intuitively do the wrong thing. Everything glides smoothly though and that's nice.pThe polished chrome housing is spiffy and significant giving it a solid weight. pAll in all a nice tool. Probably better than I need, which I told my wife. Secretly though I'm glad she spent the money on the DeWalt over the Delta.

This is a good tool. It arrived in excellent condition and was ready to use right out of the box. The factory settings were right on. It has plenty of power for all of my intended uses in remodeling and woodworking, and has worked flawlessly so far.

I purchased this item for my husband, for his Birthday, he had been telling me for a year or so that this is the Miter Saw he really would like to have. I kept looking at different places and finally decided on
br /Amazon.com, because the price was within my budget. We are beginning to do some remodel work in our home and this will be utilized a lot. He is thrilled with his new "toy". Thank you Amazon.com.

I debated a long time between a 10" or 12" miter saw, but when I stumbled across a refurbished DeWalt DW703 10" I simply couldn't pass it up. In the couple of years I have owned it I haven't found a time where I really "needed" the 12", and the advantage I have with the 10" is that it uses the same size blades as my table saw....so that keeps things simple.
br /
br /If you have already made up your mind and have decided upon a 10" saw, I would have no reservations about recommending the DW703. I fully realize that DeWalt has other 10" miter saws and I'm sure they are as equally capable, but since I have no experience with them I'll only be commenting upon this particular model.
br /
br /I have used this saw for rough framing, trim, and even for cutting sections of PVC and plastic. Over the course of the last two years I have moved the saw dozens of times, switched blades a few times, set it up and tore it down, and even after all of that the cuts stay absolutely accurate. Whether I'm cutting a 45, a 90, or any other angle this saw delivers and has never needed any adjustments. I have cut a little crown molding on the saw and again the cuts were at precise angles with no slop in the saw (I did opt for the optional crown stops which helped keep the stock at the proper angle).
br /
br /I primarily use this saw on a miter stand and I couldn't imagine doing it any other way. In the few times where I needed to make just a few quick cuts on the floor it worked well enough, but the relatively small table surface area would make this difficult if working with long stock, so if I didn't have a miter stand I would surely opt for the optional extension system.
br /
br /One disappointment was that DeWalt didn't offer a laser attachment for the saw. They offer a laser for the 12" saw, and now they even offer a LED light that "projects" a shadow of the blade on to the stock, but neither of these options is available for the 10" version, so I installed a Irwin laser guide onto the saw and it has worked beautifully.
br /
br /Amazingly enough, even the dust bag on this saw works pretty well. I would estimate it captures at least 75% of the dust when working with the 40 tooth blade that comes with it, but it ceases to function very well when using a better blade (see my review of the 80 tooth Freud Blade for additional detail on this). If using a blade with more teeth, or when cutting MDF it may be to your advantage to hook up a shop vac to the saw or use some other type of dust collection system.
br /
br /As to that 40 tooth blade it worked quite well and made smooth accurate cuts right up until the point I tried to go through a couple of nails with it. I chipped a few of the carbide teeth and lost a couple of others, but interesting enough the blade still works pretty well for dimensional lumber (although I would not use it for any fine detail work).
br /
br /I've used cheaper miter saws and I've used more expensive miter saws, but for me this one is just right. If it was stolen from me today I would have no reservations about ordering a new one tomorrow although if the right deal presented itself I could be convinced to upgrade to the 12" just for the sake of it being slightly more versatile.

I really like this saw. Cuts well, it is very easy to change miter angles and is smooth on the downstroke. But, what I really liked most, the saw seemed to be much quiter than other saws. The large numbers allow the angle to be read very easily. For the money, it is hard to beat this saw.

I purchased this saw to replace a 10 year old Delta that was worn out. With all of the hype from dealers and other tradesmen I thought I would go for the DeWalt. It works well and can perform most tasks without difficulty on moulding, 2x4's and 2x6's but 4x's forget it. The guard sits too low to allow clearance and the motor labors on most pressure treated stock, even 2x4's. And, yes I know how to use the saw correctly. The thin cast table does not provide much stability. Perhaps I should have opted for the next or 2 steps up. This saw would probabally work well for a "Harry Homeowner".... You basically get what you pay for.

Would you like to ride a pony? Then, this one is for you. Arbor run out is 0.004" (good for pony!). Loud, but powerful and small. Now, where is my mustang Bosch 4410L?
br /When somebody buys this saw, they should ask one question: "Pony for $200, or mustang for $500?"
