Description:
A serious tool capable of making a wide range of cuts, the DeWalt DW716 Double-Bevel 12-Inch Compound Miter Saw makes use of a 15.0 Amp, 3,600 RPM motor to ensure the power, durability, and versatility that professional craftsmen and women need. 11 positive stops on the adjustable stainless steel detent plate and a cam lock miter handle with detent override make all the most frequently used miter cuts easy to achieve. Furthermore, DeWalt's exclusive back fence makes it possible to cut two by ten dimensional lumber at 90 degree angles and to cut two by eight lumber at 45 degrees, while the unique double bevel design allows you create both left and right bevels from 0 to 48 degrees. Positive stops in commonly used positions make it easy to change the position of the saw instead of flipping the material to give you more complete control. A machined base fence support helps guarantee accuracy, while the innovative engineering behind the gearbox and belt-drive increases vertical cutting capacity. In order to help you take advantage of this capacity, the saws extra-tall fences leave space to cut nested crown moldings up to 6-5/8-inches and base molding up to 6-1/2-inches in a vertical position up against the fence. And you don't have to worry about these fences interfering with bevel cuts, because they slide neatly out of the way. PThis fully-featured miter saw is relatively lightweight at just 44 pounds, and it offers a built-in carrying handle that makes it easy to move from job to job. It's also noteworthy that this saw is designed for use with the DW7187 DeWalt adjustable miter saw laser system (NOT INCLUDED), which makes the cutting path visible for improved accuracy and easier handling. Included with this saw is a durable carbide blade, a blade wrench, and dust bag to get you started. This DeWalt high-performance industrial tool is backed by a 3-year limited warranty.Get more product details from Amazon

I was ready to upgrade from my Delta 10" miter to a 12", but was waiting for Dewalt to come out with a laser system. I bought this DW716 about 2 weeks ago and so far I love it. I opted NOT to get the sliding miter, since they are not as accurate as the non-sliding, especially for making furniture. This saw is very powerful and smooth, and the laser works well, though it took a while to get it set up (the instructions are marginal at best, leaving you to twiddle with it for an hour or more to try to get it to line up in every direction).
br /
br /One thing I HIGHLY recommend is a RIDGID MS-UV miter stand. I found one at Home Depot and it is the best miter saw stand on the market, and very reasonably priced. It folds and unfolds easily, and the wheels make mobility great. It is MUCH better than the Dewalt or the Delta miter saw stands. Why Dewalt doesn't have a folding one with wheels is beyond me, and the Delta one is just too small for a 12" miter. The combination of a stand and a 12" miter needs wheels, as it is very heavy. You can leave the Dewalt 12" miter mounted to the RIDGID, and even set it vertically in the corner out of the way when you don't need it. Anyway, Amazon doesn't sell the Ridgid MS-UV yet, but Home Depot does.

I purchased this as a replacement when my original De Walt single bevel 12" mitre saw bit the dust in November, right in the middle of a large deck job. I probably could have repaired the old one but it owed no service, having been with me for over 10 years in remodeling. A carpenter friend on my job last spring purchased the De Walt sliding compound 12" and I had a lot of chances to test drive its capabilities. It was an impressive saw, but it seemed like we really didn't use the sliding feature that much, with the exception of the oak stair treads...it was a great help on that task.
br /
br / Under the gun to have a mitre saw, I quickly but intensely researched the sliders on the market and read every review I could find (including those at Amazon, thank you very much, fellow woodworkers). What worried me the most about them is, across the board, there seemed to be issues about accuracy due to play in the slider mechanism. Since I do custom work of all types, from framing to quality trim, stairs and built-in cabinets, accuracy in a saw is top on my list. My old De Walt was as accurate at the end of its life as it was when I bought it, with few adjustments needed in between. I looked at most of the popular sliders at the Home Depot and could definitely see how play could be an issue. Add to this their bulkiness and extra weight and you have some serious minuses on the old scoreboard.
br /
br /So, I decided to stick with the strongarms of the staionary mitre saws, and purchased the double-bevel this time. So far, I have been very pleased. We were building an IPE', or ironwood deck ...one of the heaviest, hardest woods you will come across. With the included 60 tooth blade, the De Walt chewed through the IPE' like it was Spruce. I really think the belt drive on this model is an improvement. I was careful to let the saw get up to RPM (about a second) before starting the cuts, but then it was smooth sailing on even the nitpickiest angle. There is no room for error with IPE'... either it fits or it doesn't. We used the double-bevel feature a lot. It saved time when we had different, slightly off-square cuts to make on both ends of a board...didn't have to turn it end-for-end. When we were finished the deck looked like a piece of furniture, much to the delight of my happy clients.
br /
br /If I had a con, it would be that the dust collector bag is small and stingy....I am using the one from my old saw. I have bought a better blade for when I do delicate stain-grade finish work, but I have not put it on yet. The 60 tooth works fine for most purposes.
br /
br /I will try to give an update in 6 months or so. Right now, I'm a happy customer.

br /The 716 is still the trusty model 706 saw with 1 change and 1 new feature.
br /
br /Gone is the twist knob to set the angle,
br /in its place is a push lock, like a table saw fence, which is quick and easy to use
br / ( make sure you adjust it if its to stiff).
br /
br /The new preset miter stop release lever is a very nice feature,
br /allowing you to over or under cut angles without the saw snapping itself into the preset lock
br /
br / Excellent saw, powerful and accurate.

I have used up several delta 12" compound saws. They were good, but I cut a lot of large aluminum and steel solids on them, and it is very hard on them.
br /I decided to try this Dewalt because it was belt drive, and I thought that would smooth it out on fierce cuts. That proved to be the case, it has been a very good and very smooth saw. So far, no problems, have had it about a year and half. It also has very good power. Adjustments are easy, table section is reasonably stout.
br /All in all, I am pleased

I love the saw. I put a Chopmaster on it and it cuts real nice. I went for the 716 instead of the 715 since I wanted the motor away from the handle. The 716 also has the dual bevel which is an added bonus but I don't think I'll need it alot.

br /Get the zero clearance kerf plate ASIN B0009E6JG6 to reduce tear out. (Note to Amazon - I could not find that part using your search engine. I had to find the DeWalt part number at the DW site and use that to find it on Amazon.)
br /
br /
br /Setup took a bit extra because:
br /
br /1) The throat plate (yellow insert in the table the blade passes thru) was installed poorly. The screws are on the outside edge and tightened down so much they forced the inside edges up. The wood rested on the up-edge and thus it would not have cut 90 degrees to the table. This was found using an engineer's square. The fix was simple - loosen the screws just a bit.
br /
br /2) The miter and bevel scales needed very minor adjustment.

I've been wanting to downsize from my 12" slider, and I was willing to accept nothing but the best. I viewed the best offerings from Delta, DeWalt, Bosch, Hitachi, and ridgid.
br /
br /My two biggest criteria were accuracy and cut capacity. I was also looking at belt-drive as a preference.
br /
br /I had a few favorites in mind, but a friend had already purchased this DeWalt. After trying it in his shop, I was sold.
br /
br /I read through the manual to find all of the set-up adjustments, and went to work tuning it up. I finally put my squares away without turning a bolt.
br /
br /This is a fine-tuned cutting machine. It is easily capable of picture framing, fine furniture, or custom trim.

I originally owned a Delta 12" dual bevel compound miter saw with dual laser. Unfortunately, a gear broke in that saw last month. I took it in to have it repaired since it was still under warranty, but... DeWalt now owns Delta, and upon aquiring Delta, DeWalt discontinued this Delta saw, which was easily the best designed saw on the market. The Delta saw sold for $400, had dual bevel, compound miter with a dual laser. The dual laser was awesome because it could be aligned with both sides of the blade for quick cuts not matter which side of the blade you were using. In addition to those features, the Delta saw had nearly one and a half inches more cutting capacity than any other 12 miter on the market. Futhermore, the bevel adjustment on the Delta saw was in front of the saw (above the knob for locking the miter settings). This made bevel adjustments quick and easy, and saved me a LOT of time on crown moulding jobs. The last feature that was on the Delta, was bevel stops for crown angles. Most saws only have bevel stops at 0 and 45 degrees.
br /
br /Now after saying all that. While my Delta was in the shop, I purchased a Hitachi dual bevel compound miter, and have been very dissapointed. It is an OK saw, but is just not as productive as the Delta. It only has a single laser, bevel adjustments in back, no crown bevel stops, etc. The other annoying thing is that the laser line dissapears when you begin to cut.
br /
br /Moving on to the DeWalt saw. Since my Delta has been discontinued by DeWalt (THANKS DEWALT!!!), I was given the option of a refund of my purchase price, or a DW716 with a laser attachment. I took the saw, but only after much arguing. Once I reached the right person at DeWalt, I was offered the 716, the laser, and some extra blades for my trouble. As I wrote in the title, the DeWalt is the best alternative but is clearly inferior to the Delta.
br /
br /Pros:
br /Smooth operation. The belt drive is quieter and smoother. I like this a little more than the operation of my Delta.
br /More compact. It is actually a little smaller than the delta, so it takes up a little less space in my crowded van.
br /Fits on my DeWalt stand better. I own a dewalt stand (great product), but the table of the Delta saw (its fence) never matched up well with the supports on the stand (the saw's fence sat back too far), so very small pieces of moulding would always fall off the back of the supports and irritate me. The dewalt naturally matches up perfectly.
br /The fence: The dewalt fences are very accurate. The hitachi's fences are slightly off from eachother, and I have not been able to get them to match up perfectly, so I use it for rough cuts, not for finish ones. The Dewalt was set up by the service center for me, and everything is dead on.
br /
br /Cons:
br /Laser. I just can not understand why they can not have a dual laser on this saw. Delta had the technology 3 years ago, and you bought them. When are you going to put this feature on your saws. I would gladly pay extra for it. The time savings doing finish carpentry more than justifies the extra cost.
br /The bevel adjustment. once you have used a saw with a front adjustment for the bevel, you never want to go back to reaching around the back of the saw. It is a waste of time. Again, you bought Delta, and they had the technology, why is it not now on your saws?
br /Pull pin for bevel. There is an annoying pull pin in back that you must pull in order to flip the bevel from one side of 0 to the other. This is annoying, and was not on my Delta. It is one more non value added step that decreases productivity when doing finish work like Crown moulding that requires constant flipping of the bevel.
br /No bevel stops for crown angles. There are only bevel stops at 0 and 45 on each side of 0. once you have used a saw that has quick stops at crown bevel angles, it is a waste of time to have to adjust the bevel to the precise angle every cut. The stops would be a HUGE time saver.
br /Less Cutting capacity. nearly an inch and a half less cutting capacity than my Delta 12" I tried cutting a 3/4" x 11" piece of plywood, and had to flip it after the first cut to finish the cut. My Delta would have done it in one cut. The video shows the ability for the dewalt to cut a 2x10 at 90 degrees if you remove the fence, add something (it looks like a scrap) below the piece you are cutting, and use the back fence. This is a time consuming workaround because of the saw's smaller cutting capacity.
br /Warranty: This saw only carries a 1 year warranty. My Delta had a full 2 year warranty.
br /
br /To sumarize, it is a very good saw, and probably the best one currently available on the market, but is still inferior to the Delta saw that I had. If you have never owned the Delta, you will likely be very happy with this saw. I like it for what it is, but will likely never be truly satisfied with it because of all the missing features that I previously enjoyed. The time that will be added to each job will, because of the missing features, add up and eclipse the price of the saw in a month or two. I would be willing to pay hundreds more for a DeWalt saw that had those features. It would be worth the price, unfortunately, DeWalt does not seem interested in producing such a saw.
br /
br /Finally... DeWalt's customer service did eventually try hard to accomodate me. it started out slow, but I have to admit that they finished strong, and I am now pleased with their effort.

I was impressed with Amazon's shipping speed...2 days! WOW!! The saw was ready to go right out of the box...and needed no adjustments. This saw will cut through anything...especially the 6 1/2" crown molding I have! The fence is great and accurate...makes bevels a sinch to perform. I am very pleased with the saw...would have given it a 5-star rating had DeWalt not been so cheap and included a clamp and/or crown-molding stop...oh well, but with a $50 promotional certificate on the way, I guess you know what I'll be buying soon! Not to mention that Amazon's price of $359 was the cheapest I could find...shipping fee ONLY $4.99 and no tax = NO BRAINER! A great saw!

I bought this saw to replace a, (don't Laugh) Chicago Electric miter saw, and I am amazed at the difference. This saw is quiet, smooth and powerful. Everything appears to be dead on accurate right out of the box. Miter and bevel cuts are clean, square and tight.
br /
br /The stock blade is a very nice blade, however a Forrest Chopmaster instantly makes this saw even better.
br /
br /The only negative thing I can say about this saw is that the bevel gauge is a little difficult to read.

I think most reviewers feel obligated to write something they don't like about the items they review even if what they don't like is trivial. With the DeWalt DW716, I cannot find even a trivial problem. It has great capacity for a non slider, nice features and, teamed up with a Forrest Chop Master blade (not included), it is a pure please to work with. I up graded from their 10" model DW703 after I had an accident that cause unrepairable damage to it. I was pleased with the 10" and would not have changed if it didn't break. But it turned out to be a good thing even though I had to spend money I hadn't planned to spend. And the up grade to the Forrest Chop Master blade is recommended for fine finish work especially.

The saw was great right out of the box. I won't get into the details but everything positive said by the previous reviewers is true.
br /
br /The problem I mentioned is hard to precisely describe so bear with me. I had used the saw for a total of 2 days and made ±30 cuts with it so it was still pretty much brand new. When I finished my project I cleaned the dust off with my air compressor and locked the arm down with the push pin. I grabbed the lift handle (not the yellow swing arm handle) and lifted the saw off the table. This is where it is hard to describe. When I lifted the saw the forged metal near the pin sheared off leaving no stop support for the pin. The only explanation for this is the temperature in my garage was around 45F (even colder at night) and it caused the metal to become too brittle to support the weight of the saw on such a concentrated area. Because of this I gave the saw 4 stars instead of 5.
br /
br /Luckily I had purchased the saw at the local HD and was able to bring it back without any questions. BTW-check your local stores...I was able to find this saw for 329.00+tax.

11/25/07.
br /I have been using this saw for a few months now. I have since replaced the throat plate with a home made hardwood plate. No more bowing.
br /The blade upgrade is a must for precision woodworking. If you are buying the saw for carpentry, the stock blade works well. I have used it for cutting 2x4's this summer and it performed quite well. Remember, miter saws are built for carpenters not woodworkers.
br /The cuts have been effortless and perfect. I needed to make some blade adjustments out of the box as expected. The blade was rather easy to square up. Then I used it for a while. I always start with a longer piece of wood than I really need and make a test cut. I then check it with a quality square. All of a sudden I found my blade was not cutting straight. I squared the blade again and it's been fine since. I will attribute this to break in of the saw. But no saw blade on any machine will maintain it's squareness indefinitely. Maintenance is all part of the fun.
br /The factory dust bag collects about 50% of the dust. That's about standard for any power tool. I purchased a reducer for my dust collector hose, a 2 hp Grizzly. Now the factory dust port is pulling away 95% of the dust. The JDS ceiling mounted dust collector gets the really fine stuff. Now there is just a small amount that gathers on the floor. The shop vac takes care of that.
br /I am extremely happy with this saw and would purchase again. Anyone want to buy my old craftsman?
br /
br /Out of the box this saw was nearly perfect. But as stated by others, the throat plate stinks. It's a cheap piece of plastic. It bows in the center and will throw off your cut. I removed it and the bow remained. I tossed it. I'll buy the zero clearance metal plate or maybe make a couple from hardwood.
br /The blade cuts well but leaves a rough edge. It would be a good blade for cutting dimentional lumber but not for furniture grade hardwoods.
br /So it's off to Lowe's for a 12 inch 96 tooth Irwin. $69. It now cuts through oak like butter.
br /My first cut was off by a degree or two. I pulled out the manual and set the blade 90 degrees to the fence and set the bevels. Next cut was perfect! My older craftsman never ran so smooth or strong. And no matter how many times I tried, I just could not get the blade 90 degfrees to the fence. Every time I had it dead on, it would move when tightening up the screws. I really dislike craftsmen power tools. The new thing with craftsmen is adding on cheap accessories that either don't work or have no meaningfull purpose. Maybe they should concentrate on putting back the quality.
br /The belt drive for the blade removes so much vibration, the saw is a real pleasure to use. I mounted the dewalt on my Grizzly saw stand and it is the perfect working height.
br /BTW, what's with Amazon stating a retail price so high it's rediculous so they can give you a much lower Amazon price? Who are they kidding anyway?
br /
br /I have been using this saw for a few months now.

I have owned this saw for seven months and can say without hesitation I am incredibly happy with my purchase. The saw was set up accuratly right out of the box and the included blade is fine for cutting framing lumber and worked well on cheap door casing. The motor is very powerful and the handle grip is comfortable to use. The dust bag could be a little bigger and even with the bag attached the saw makes a bit of a mess with dust, but this is a very minor issue as the function of the saw itself can't be beat.

After getting the saw tweeked and installing the laser I noticed that the blade guard rubbed on the laser. I called DeWalt up and they said that they had heard of this problem before. They wanted me to take to a service center but it turned out that there is none around here. I told them that I was able to fix the saw if they supplied the parts. So they said that they would send me a new guard and linkages to fix the problem. The saw is everything it should be and I would buy it again. Heck I wish I had purchased it a long time ago. I also purchased a lot of the accessories that would fit the saw. And was happy with most of them. When the new parts get here and are installed I will update this review.

I am a self employed trim carpenter that is very particular about tools, This saw is the heart of my operation and it does a lot. It is extremely accurate, and was set up perfectly from the minute I opened the box.
br /
br /I added the laser and that is a real time saver.
br /
br /Again mine is extremely accurate, I like the crown stops/ settings- they work REALLY well and flip right out the way when you need them to. I will never bed another piece of crown to cut it like on my old dewalt without those stops. This is much better/ Safer
br /
br /I do not like the blade that came on the saw. I bought the 80 tooth dewalt trim blade and got much better results.
br /
br /I do think the saw could have a bit more torque as bevel cuts in wide stock will labor it even with a pretty sharp blade. This is the only weakness I see. It runs much better/stronger on a 20 amp circuit which is available %50 of the time. Many newer homes only have 15 amp circuits. Sometime we can get the electrician to make us a temporary 20 amp outlet on a new home and many generators have 20's I run high TPI blades and the more teeth the more it pulls the motor and it cuts slower but the smoother the cut. Choose the right blade for good results.
br /Cord length is important too I don't think it should be on any longer than 50 feet or any less than 12 gauge wire for an extension cord for good power and motor life. The shorter the cord the better.
br /
br /First job I did with this saw I made over ten times what it cost so I think it already paid for itself.
br /
br /I have since used it to trim more homes out and last job was to build a really fancy open stairway with over the post railings and the saw handled everything ok- fence was big enough to support volutes and pitch block just fine. You just have to cut treads twice- but it was not bad at all to do (just spin them end for end- saw stays the same) and I would not buy the heavy sliding model just to save a small amount of time.
br /
br /This saw works great on the Dewalt miter saw stand.
br /
br /The brake stops the blade pretty fast.
br /
br /I do the kind of advanced carpentry work that requires experience, patience, and a good set of tools. I take my time and get things the way they should be. I charge a good but fair price for my work and I expect a tool to perform at a level that allows me do quality work I can feel good about asking someone to pay me for. This tool delivers for me.
br /
br /I have since bought a 10" dewalt single bevel for regular trim, this is my Crown and large trim saw now.
br /
br /Good for a pro or someone who just wants a good precise cut and a saw that will last.

I purchased this saw to install crown moulding in my home. The fact that it allows you to override the detenting capability made it attractive and worth the purchase. When you need dead on precision this is the saw for you. After setting up and tuning it, it cut right on the money. The sliding miter I used previously always detented in the 45 degree mark making it difficult to cut near 45. Yes you can shim it here or there but its still a trial and error method. Also the sliding miter saw I used always had some play from side to side that I reluctantly just had to get used to. This made my purchase of the DW716 all the more easier. I would recommend it for anyone wanting accuracy without sacrificing versatility.
A lot of money, but a great saw

Pros: Tons of power, quality workmanship, reliable, very precise miter cuts
Cons: Expensive

For a 12" saw, it is very lightweight and portable. The carrying handle on the top makes it easy to carry around on a job site or to/from your truck just like a briefcase. The aluminum base is very wide and deep so as to provide a stable platform even with the minimal weight of the saw.
The 12" cutting capacity is great for someone like myself who is used to a 10" saw. I even use it to crosscut plywood shelving and boards that exceed its one-pass capacity by flipping the board over and making two cuts. This saw is accurate enough that these kind of double cuts are still possible.
The horizontal D-handle is comfortable and feels very natural.
The miter and bevel adjustments are easy to access, easy to adjust, and easy to reset to previous settings. The miter scale is easy to read and adjust, overall I think this is the easiest saw to set in the industry.
Overall, I couldn't be happier with this saw.

This is a great saw. Tons of power and very easy to make accurate miter cuts. The bevel is a little hard to set for cuts that are not 45 or 33 degrees because the gauge is not as easy to read as it could be. Also, the dust collection bag is too small, but the quality of the saw is top notch.

The miter saw that I had got to the point where I could not make accura adjustments. When you are cut a 45 degree you want it to be 45 degrees not 1/2 degree off. Actually I am a Milwaukee person when it comes to tool. On this occassional I skipped the Milwaukee brand and decided to try a Dewalt because I needed one ASAP for a rush job. The tool performed great. I was reall impressed with it especially the setting and locking mechanism. I would highly recommend this tool.

I am contractor working with the best carpenter I've ever known. He has tried all major brands of miter saws. He is not partial to any brands on any tools, Rates each tool based on its merit. This saw provides accurate cuts with the many accurate positive stops, the belt drive with the motor located at the back of the saw instead of the front allows for handling larger material and easy handling. We have two of these and use them effortlessy on trim jobs and in remodeling. I advise any miter saw user to check out the amazing Trojan miter saw stand.

I've had this saw for a couple of weeks now. I bought it to replace a Hatachi 10 inch Double Bevel miter saw that was just wore out. I used the saw to cut widow and door trim that I was replacing and to build a fireplace mantle. It cut nice striate, clean cuts.
br /I'm very pleased with the saw and would recommend it to anyone.

I got this saw for about $370 (free ship) +free palm sander....great deal and both tools are great. For the novice user, you can save $ by buying a "non-compound" saw since crown molding can be cut in a vertical position without compound cut. Wish someone told me, could have saved more, but it's awesome if you need the feature.

Even though I was just using this to put a floor in my sunroom (and don't have much skill with power tools or carpentry), I thought the saw was easy to use, safe, and accurate. I found it worthwhile to buy a good quality saw, as it appears the Dewalt will continue to perform for many years to come.

This saw is great. I'm still getting used to all the features as I am used to using a much simpler saw. I have build quite a few shelves so far and will be doing flooring soon. Great saw and the stock blade isn't half bad either. I find that aligning the cut with the blade is perfect and I won't be buying the laser attachment.

This review won't be technical or helpful, but as a female who really enjoys home improvement projects, I think this is one wicked awesome saw. I've been replacing baseboards and crown moulding and it's perfect. A 10" miter saw wasn't cutting it (no pun intended) on the larger crown, so I bought this one. It's easy to use right out of the box. I might one day sit down and read thru the instruction manual, but I could do everything I needed to without the book. I am inspired to learn how to do more things. All the men in my family and the guys who have been working on other things around my house are very impressed (with the saw and what I've done with it).

My husband is very hard to buy for and this was the perfect Valentine's surprise gift. He had a 10" miter saw with only a single bevel and kept saying it was fine, he didn't need a new one. So I surprised him with this before a large molding project and he loves it. Easy to use, precise cuts, a big improvement from his 10".

After purchasing and then returning a Hitachi 12" dual bevel saw that had quality issues purchased from Lowe's (I wrote a review for that saw), I decided to purchase the DeWalt DW716 from Lowes. I really liked the DW716. Easy set up and accurate. I'm in the middle of installing crown and larger baseboards in every room in my house. After making three cuts, this saw just quit. Nothing, nada. The owners manual troubleshooting section states nothing of an overload or reset on this saw. It says to check that the power cord is plugged in (check) and check that the C.B. or fuse is not tripped (check). The 20 Amp circuit was fine (120 Volts measured). I went ahead and ate lunch, came back still nothing. Probably a bad switch or loose connection. I took the saw back and ordered a Bosch 4212L. Fast shipment from Amazon. I immediately fell in love with the Bosch saw. Short lived love affair, I discovered this saw was broken at the locking pin that holds the saw head assembly right out of the box. The pot metal had chipped in the area where the pin extends and the pin would keep slipping allowing the saw handle to move up. After talking to a Bosch factory rep. he said this is a total disassembly of the saw. This saw was probably a returned saw. One of the bags containing parts had been stapled back together. All other bags were like they were factory sealed. I am currently in the process of returning the Bosch saw back to Amazon.com for a refund. So far Amazon's return process has been excellent. Tomorrow, I will go back to Lowe's and purchase a second Dewalt DW716. I would try another Bosch from Amazon but I don't have the time to sit around and wait. The same thing could happen. I did like the features of that first DW716 and I figure it could have just been one of those things. That DeWalt has straight forward adjustments for the blade tuning. It's probably just my current situation, but I have run into many quality issues across the spectrum from many brands recently. I'm getting paranoid. I now know that Hitachi is having quality issues for sure (Made in China). The Bosch was (Made in Taiwan) the DeWalt at least is North America (Made in Mexico). Maybe we need to get some of this work back. Sorry, I'm venting.

For years I've been getting by framing with a nice Makita worm drive skillsaw. The purchase of this saw made for the third DeWalt Miter saw in my family, but the first for me. The other two family members were happy with their DeWalt single-bevel saws, so I decided to buy myself this double-bevel saw. I've framed a 5 room appartment with this saw so far. No complaints.

FYI - After reading many reviews, i decided to purchase a Delta 36-422L. However i could not find one in stock anywhere. I called Delta and was told it was on indefinite hold. Their line of saws is being turned over to DeWalt. I was told the DW716 is the same saw as the 36-422L, which i find hard to believe (with "some design changes"), but at least they are supposedly built on the same line. I think that speaks highly of this saw and hopefully the future of DeWalt saws.

The DW716 miter saw I purchased meets all my expectations and was just the item I was looking for. The only disapointment is the blade that was sent with thew saw. It doesn't make clean cuts when mitering trim and splinters the wood making trim cuts unacceptable. I had to replace trhe blade with on I had just to make clean cuts.
