This is an improved model of an already great tool! It was always the smoothest running and cutting saw before! Now it has easier to read markings on both bevel and table angle settings. Possitive angle notches in the table. Dual bevel and the belt drive is sooooo nice! The free blade is one of the best out there for cabinet or trim work. Buy it and you'll be hooked! We have used these Hitachi sliders since 1989 and we can't find anything close to it's quality and performance.

I am a medium-level do-it-yourselfer, taking on more and more projects at a 200+ year old house that always needs attention. After replacing windows recently, I needed a saw to cut and complete the casing portion of the job. Rather than continue to beg and borrow from my neighbors, I opted to increase my tool collection. I pored over reviews here and elsewhere and finally decided to take the leap-- to a Bosch sliding compound saw here on Amazon. However, when I saw the hefty shipping/handling charges, and with a price increase moments before I clicked "Buy," I rethought the purchase and opted for the Hitachi from another online vendor with a much more reasonable shipping charge.
br /
br /The saw came quickly and was in fine shape after travelling halfway across the country. I can see with less-than gentle handling the saw could punch a hole in the packaging, but mine survived the trip with no such effect. The saw is relatively compact, not too heavy, and the miters were right on right out of the box. The slide is smooth and the cuts are good. While some have raved about the OEM blade that ships with the saw, I am not 100% thrilled- some cuts have been so-so, making small chips in the pine I was cutting. I also cut some oak base molding, and the cuts were again good, but not perfect. At this point, I want to attribute that to my own learning curve, rather than to the saw or the blade. I want to swap the original blade with a finishing blade I have, to see if there is improvement in the smoothness of the cuts.
br /
br /One gripe, and the reason for the 4 star rating, is with the safety button and handle. I do not have huge hands, and I find it somewhat awkward to depress the safety button and then grab the horizontal D-handle comfortably with the same hand to start the saw. Luckily for me, I am right-handed, as the handle controls are designed that way. Left handers had better be ambidextrous, or especially nimble with their pinky to be able to depress the safety button. Again, it could simply be getting accustomed to the saw. I did not experience this problem when using my friend's DeWalt sliding saw, however.
br /
br /I purchased a Stablemate Plus 100 saw stand (built like a truck) from Amazon, and because the mounting holes on the Hitachi are in a triangular pattern, I had to mount the saw on plywood first in order to then mount it on the saw stand. Not a big deal, but worth noting.

I've used several mitre boxes on the market and none are as detailed as the Hitachi slide. It's the only one I know with a dust shield to keep dust off the bevel guage. To me, the best feature is the soft start. My friend that I work with trimming out houses, has just purchased his third one and will not touch another one because of it's work horse features. This influenced me, then using it for a week sealed my decision. The slide motion is also so very soft, especially when you put a liquid silicone on the shaft, it glides with no effort! I'd recommend it to any serious woodworker needing a quality, dependable tool!

I had the little brother before this and thought the best of it with the exception that it could not cut through 4x4 in one cut. This one does that with ease with the added benefit of compounding both ways. I have used several others only to miss mine. Things that could be better in this one and all are lighter weight and quieter. I did not get the laser and probably should have. Perhaps due to the larger blade and the larger throw of the pivot into the wood it's not as easy as the smaller saw to line up the cut on you mark at a steep bevel.
Great Saw with just minor design issues. Worth the money!

Almost deserves five stars, but just minor design issues. I've had this saw for a few months for a house remodel and it has done great for all kinds of cuts from rough to finish. Pay attention to switch the guide before titling to the left. You'll cut right through it. I have talked to others who have done the same. They should have made it easier to switch.
br /
br /I replaced this after trying a cheap model from Lowes. I will never go back as the cuts are so much easier and better that you will save money in wood and time by going with Hitachi.
br /
br /This machine is built very well. I would buy it again, but hopefully this one will be with me fo a while.
br /
br /Don't bother with the laser model. You don't need it.

I have owned a a Hitachi 12" non slider for 15 years and is still as acurate as the day I bought it. I needed a slider and considered the Millwakee, Dewalt, Portercable ETC. After reading many many reveiews the Hitachi C1oFSB 10" consistently had the highest reviews. The 12" Hitachi slider looked like an over engineered saw in the cosmetics department, a good saw for a hair dresser. Just by looking at it I new I would not be happy with it. The 10" inch on the other hand was just what I was looking for. I have owned this saw now for about 14 months and am completly satisfied. I am a serious wood turner and demand acurracy and get pissed off when i dont get it.

I have had this saw for about six months and I absolutely love it. It is very smooth and it cut square right out of the box. I like the smaller size better than the 12" Dewalt Slider and the price cannot be beat. My only minor complaint is that a "D" style grip would be more comfortable. Overall an excellent saw for the price.
Great Saw - Terrible dust collection

I really like the saw - it is quite and accurate. The only problem is the dust collection system. The dust bag collects only 2/3 of the dust. The port is exactly 2-inches so it is too small for my 2-inch hose and too large for my 1.5 inch hose. I need to find an adapter. I use the saw on woodworking projects using red cedar and cherry. The cuts are very good.

My wife purchased this saw for me as a christmas present. I've had a low-end delta CMS for several years, and I was never able to get it to make very accurate cuts. It was fine for basic cutting, but now that we're getting ready to start replacing trim and install crown molding in much of the house, I wanted something that was going to give good, accurate cuts. I also wanted something that would let me make cuts in larger material, like 12" shelving boards etc.
br /
br /Now that I've had the saw for a few weeks, and had a chance to play with it, I must say that I'm very happy with it. It is very smooth in all operations (cutting, and changing miter and bevel settings). It was set up accurately right out of the box, but I did need to adjust the bevel indicator needles to reflect that, which was a very simple process. I love how easy the blade is to change, and frankly I just love the feel of using it. You can really tell you're using a precision piece of machinery.
br /
br /This is a great saw for the money, and I'm very happy with it. I expect it to last for many years.

ive had this saw for about 3 years now, ive owned a 12" dewalt, used ryobi and mikita 10", this one i like the most. The soft start is great, but whats even greater is that u dont have to tune anything, right out the box your gonna get straight cuts.

br /the only thing about this saw is the height clearance. 5 inch baseboards cant be cut standing up. dewalt 12" can. great saw overall.

I am totally happy with my new Hitachi saw but I want to warn others about Hitachi's failure to honor their rebate offer of a free nailer ($100 value) when purchasing this saw last fall. Last fall, I sent in complete paperwork for the rebate within the prescribed period. I heard nothing for about three months. In early March I sent a second copy of my rebate materials to Hitachi. Yesterday (after about a month) I received my second rebate application returned to me unopened and stamped "Offer expired". Like the previous reviewer, I think Amazon needs to know this is happening. My initial reaction when I saw the "free nailer" offer was this is too good to be true. I was right.
No Complaints Here. Except, where's my rebate?

This was my original review of the product. I have updated it since Hitachi did not send the supposed rebate that came with this miter saw. Now I am pissed. Just look at all the reviews for Hitachi products. I have a few of their tools and I have been happy with all of them including this one. For the price alone it can't be beat. And on top of that I am getting a free Finish Nailer from Hitachi. I used to think Makita, Dewalt, Craftsman, and Delta were the best. Sure they are good, and they are expensive too. And to think a brand like Hitachi known for it's electronics product(s) can put out tools like these should make other tool manufacturers go back to the drawing board and start thinking. Just go to Lowes and see Hitachi tools and you can tell they are well made and when you see the price, you may not look at other brands again. I have Makita, Dewalt, Craftsman, and I am replacing them all with Hitachi tools, except of course my Craftsman Compressor. ;-p.
br /
br /Okay, I like this miter saw and the price is decent. It was $70 cheaper with free shipping when I ordered it in December 2005. But, it supposedly has a rebate for a free finish nailer from Hitachi. I bought the Hitachi brad nailer and the finish nailer rebate would complete it. I sent the rebate request and it's already the end of March, so where is the rebate? I ordered it from Amazon and they advertised this product with the rebate so I told myself it's a good deal so I ordered it. Who is responsible for delivering it to it's customer? I believe Amazon should contact Hitachi and demand that they send the rebate(s) to it's customers.

As a full time carpenter, I've used this saw day in and day out for 2 years. My second Hitachi saw. Originally I had the old 8" compound miter saw and used it daily until I finally wore it out after 10+ years. Bought this one as a replacement. Light, accurate, great laser, but this thing just screams. You'll really need hearing protection when using it all day.
br /It's not an issue with the blade. I use several different blades, it's the electric brake. The soft start is nice and smooth, and not too bad noise wise, but let the trigger go and it really shrieks.
br /Other than that I would certainaly recommend it if you need a good dependable tool.
br /Just expect to say "What???" a lot at the end of the day.
br /Might seem to be a silly complaint, but I've had a significant hearing loss after working around power tools for the last 30+ years, so noise levels have become a criteria as important as accuracy and dependability in my book.

This saw is just amazing. I have been using a Ryobi slider for years, and though I was happy with it, it was underpowered, an cannot compare with this Hitachi. This saw makes effortless smooth cuts, setsup easy, and best of all, it only weighs 44 lbs. The other saws I looked at,( and picked up) were so heavy i just walked away. I am a professional cabinet maker (25 years) andwill never need anything more than this in mitre saw.

After giving up an accurate 1980's vintage "Skilsaw" 10" Miter Saw for increased capacity only to experience many years of frustration from time and material wasted working, tuning and retuning a 12" Dewalt Dual Bevel Compound Saw and a Delta 10" Radial Arm Saw(returned to merchant),I decided to try the Hitachi C10FSB 10-Inch Dual Bevel Sliding Compound Saw.
br /I settled on the Hitachi C10FSB because of the reviews I have read and my personal experience with Hitachi Customer Service Call Center for a Hitachi Compressor I have owned for nine years.
br /I am 100% satisfied. Specificly the out of the box quality, uncomplicated manual and most of all the accuracy. The sliding tubes are smooth and have NO sloppy play. The adjustments are accessable and ledgable from the front of the saw which makes it practical for mounting to a permanent location. The dust bag and additional special attention designed into the saw guard surprisingly captures most of the dust generated. However I was able to insert 1 1/2" PVC pipe in place of the supplied bag and a couple of 15 degree elbows and connect the Vacuume hose to it. No need to build a custom dust boot or a new configuration to the dust collector. Blade access is designed well without the need of a third hand to hold the guard out of the way while you are changing the blade. One wrench included fits most of the adjustment hardware including the blade. Minor detail but should mention the safety switch position takes some getting used to but it does keep you aware that you are about to start the saw.
br /Last comment, it is not a heavy brute to pickup and carry. Well balanced and configured. I plan on bragging about and keeping this saw for a LONG time.

I have used many miter saws. This is by far the best saw I have worked with. The smoothness of cut, the accuracy as well as the power, even the price, cannot be compared to any other saw I have used. It also is very durable. I move from one job site to another. No problems what-so-ever. I would recommend this product to all contractors.

I got the drill but never got the free finish blade called and griped but still never got the blade. Bur if you have looked and compared with the free shipping it is about the best price out there for the best saw.

Arrived with some deep scratches on the base near the miter adjustments. Amazon shipped me a replacement overnight.
br /
br /The saw seems great. Stock blade is almost good enough for finish work.
br /
br /The dual bevel adjustment seems a little haphazard. The dust bag is junk but does a decent job collecting roughly 2/3 the dust.
br /
br /Everything else seems fine to me. Nice miter controls. I agree that a "D" handle would have been much more comfortable.
br /
br /I bought it at $439, but got a refund for the difference when it dropped to $349. I would not again pay $439 for it, and definitely would not pay $500+ for it.
br /
br /I do think it's a great saw, though. Amazon service has been outstanding for me.

I am restoring my old home, and also spend quite a bit of time helping like-minded family friends do the same. I have just received my Hitachi C10FSB and overall am very pleased with the purchase. Except for zero degree bevel needing an easy to-do adjustment, all other angles were spot on as delivered. The saw has a great blade, and overall fit and finish is excellent.
br /
br /I was not impressed with was Hitachi's packaging. Upon reciept I could see about 1" of the back of the slider protruding from a small hole in side of the box. Upon opening I found the saw had shifted from its cardboard cutout restraints, allowing the slider to poke out of the box. The bevel was not locked or restrained and was free to flip-flop during shipping. Luckily everything checks out okay.
br /
br /I cannot comment on how competitors package their saws, but as noted in other reviews it is clear that Hitachi does not package their saws for individual home delivery. This is the only thing keeping the C10FSB from getting 5 stars.

and for what it costs, I should love it, but I don't. It came with a bowed left fence. After two weeks, I still haven't rec'd the replacement, so I can only make cuts from the right side. The right fence is about an inch tall, i.e. TINY. It slides smooth, and cuts wide stock. The blade it came with is good. The table is also pretty small. The saw I'm replacing is a five-year old 12" Dewalt (dual bevel but no slider), which I still prefer, sad to say(bigger table and fences). A couple of colleagues have the 12" Bosch slider, and love it, which at this point I wish I'd bought. Anybody want my Hitachi 10" slider?

I cannot recommend this product enough - good price, arrived on time, highly accurate tool. It would have been the perfect transaction if I had received the nailer I sent all the rebate info in towards!!!(see Kevin Graham's review, as well). Having waited now four months, I have sent an email to Hatachi since I know Amazon to be useless in these situations. For lack of any other real recourse, my second option is to send a letter to Hatachi's company president, Kazuo Furukawa. Unfortunately this is not the first time I have been stung on an Amazon advertised rebate.
