I'm not a professional, I'm just a homeowner who appreciates quality tools, but it seems they got all the details right on this saw. Miter and bevel were perfectly aligned out of the box, which I checked with my triangle and with some test cuts. Getting it out of the box was easy too, thanks to the carrying handle on the saw head which is very solid and close to the center of balance. (Usually with big items like this you have to figure out how to get your hands underneath it and then hold the box down while you get it out.) The locking pin which keeps the saw head down when you're carrying it can be slid in and out easily but has no problem supporting the weight, while the spring that raises the head prevents the pin from sliding out accidentally. There are also good hand holds on each side of the base with rounded edges so they don't dig into your hands.
br /
br /Bevel stops at 0 and 45 degrees make it easy to switch between common angles, but can be slid back after loosening a screw to allow a few more degrees either way when you need to compensate for other cuts that were a little off (made by someone else, of course). There's also a flip-out stop for 33.9 degree bevel which is also solidly made. The bevel locking knob-thing is nice and big, making it easy to grip and turn. The adjustable fence can be quickly adjusted with a single knob, but is still very sturdy when tightened down.
br /
br /Miter adjustment is rock solid. The quick detents have no wiggle room at all, and the detent override makes it easy to adjust to any angle. The simple push-down miter lock is easy to use, and once locked I was unable to force it slip to either side.
br /
br /The dust bag collects a bit over half of the sawdust, and as a result fills up pretty quickly. I'm planning to get an adapter so I can connect my shopvac to the dust outlet. If you're wondering, the dust port is 1.5" O.D.
br /
br /Everything about this saw is sturdy, and all the adjustments can be made with very little effort. It's also a little quieter than I expected, which is nice. You can't go wrong with this saw.

I've had this saw for almost a year now and can still recommend this tool as a great purchase. Despite the 12" size, its remarkably light and portable which is a major plus as I don't have a workshop so I have to pull it out and set it up each time. Plenty of power. The miter stops are solid and extremely easy and accurate. I put on a Frued blade to take care of the molding work I mostly do and the results are always gratifying (when I measure twice). I purchased the Irwin laser for $25 and that works great as well.

no complaints!

Many people have beat up the yellow saws. I don't understand the psychology of DeWalt hate. This has been a fine saw. The blade is fine for construction work and eats 2x4's. I put a 80 tooth on it for finer work and it is spectacular. Out of the box it could have been ready to go, but I'm not one to expect perfection after mfg and shipping. To make this a really good saw, I screwed on a Dewalt 36-136 miter stand (I'm not worried about clashing colors!)

Great Miter Rig!!

I bought the R version for $175 shipped and am quite happy with the deal I got. I haven't done a finish job with it yet but I have built a nice trellis with 4x4's and 2x6's and this saw has plenty of power. Pretty accurate to with supplied blade. I will be buying a 100t finish blade soon cause I have a crown job coming up. I am confident it will perform as good.

I just purchased this saw after owning the previous 12" model that didn't bevel. By the way I have had the previous saw for 13 years(bought it when they first came out) and it is still working fine. I will either sell it or use it as a backup or when I do jobs away from the shop. With Dewalt you won't regret your purchase.

I was looking for a miter saw for a long time and was actually going to buy Delta 10 inch dual bevel saw. I currently own DeWalt drill and am very pleased with it. I purchased this saw for a very good price and it was actually cheaper than other 10 inch saws. (Brand new) Bosch saw was next in line but it's way expensive.
br /
br /Pros ---
br /1 Power. Has enough power to cut 2x4 easily. Haven't tried cutting 4x4 yet but looking at 2x4 cuts, that should not be an issue.
br /2 Easy to read miter scale. Large enough to read through sawdust.
br /3 Saw Blade. Comes with standard 12 inch DeWalt blade which is good enough for day to day cutting.
br /
br /Cons ---
br /1 Mobility. Awkward to pick up and carry around. Must be picked up horizontally. I would have been nice to have some handle in middle so that it could have picked up vertically.
br /2 No laser. At this price, it should come with laser to show where you are cutting.
br /3 Dust collection. It has dust collection chute but even when connected to shop vacuum, it doesn't do a good job.
br /4 No ruler no fence. This means you need to measure it and then cut it. I pasted paper tape on it as workaround.
br /
br /Overall, I am very pleased with what I paid vs what I have received.

Mine is a couple years old now and has had no problems.
br /
br /Once you get the fence set to square with the blade, if stays there pretty well. The miter rotation is easy to move and is quite accurate for most all projects, including frames.
br /
br /The blade that comes with the saw isn't the greatest for fine woodworking, but is acceptable if you move the cut slowly. Certainly, a higher quality blade can be purchased if needed.
br /
br /I mostly use mine for rough crosscuts on longer boards and some small frames. Truthfully, I like using the table saw for very precise angle cuts, but that's my fault with not getting it set up to near perfection, not the machine's.
br /
br /One star off of perfect due to lack of quality dust collection. I don't know if anyone makes one that has good collection. Maybe the Kapex?

Much Improved!!!!

Throw your old Compound Miter saw out boys and girls. Dewalt has fixed the table lifting problem that made me regret buying the previous model. Laser schmazer!!! Setting the blade on the mark will always be the method of a craftsman. Now if they would improve the stand I'd really be happy, VERY unstable!!!

I have used this saw a lot in the past few months. We totally remodeled our house and could not have done it without this saw. It is very smooth operating and adjusts easily. Good size and power for price.

This is a wonderful saw, very powerful, well engineered and easy to use. I would suggest that potential buyers seriously consider also purchasing the hold down clamp. Actually, Dewalt should include this with the saw since you really can't cut with precision unless the work is clamped to prevent drift.

I have enjoyed using this miter saw. The saw was dead-on accuate out of the box. Tools like this one just reafirm my belief in buying quality the first time.

This is a very solid and accurate performing miter saw. Well made, plenty of power, and relatively lightweight and easy to transport. The stock blade was much better than expected, and I used it to install 450 sq ft of engineered flooring with virtually no tearout. Dust collection, as with every miter saw I've used, is non-existant. If you find this saw on sale or with a promotional offer, as I did, don't hesitate to make the purchase. This is one of, if not the best, non-sliders on the market.

1) The saw is fantastic.....it is everything you expect out of Dewalt. With everything in life you get what you pay for. Couldnt be happier.
br /2) Amazons deal on this saw with all the promotions applied made this one of the best purchases I have made in quite awhile. For the price I would have paid at the large national chain I recieved the saw, optional laser guide,Freud blade and a Dewalt recipricating saw AND the saws were at my house in 3 days......please. If you arent shopping on this site you arent paying attention.
br /3) Also by using spare change lying around the house I was able to cash them in for free at the local Coinstar by selecting the Amazon option....it was like a rebate in itself.

I bought this tool for less than $300 at a big box store when it retailed for $350. I did some price comparison and got a price match plus 10%...so it pays to shop around.
br /
br /What I liked - Everything seems square out of the box and it is nicely designed and manufactured. It feels smooth and natural when cutting. Dewalt has a good reputation so I don't think you can go wrong with this saw. I have been told this saw replaces the DW705S which had some engineering flaws involving the table lifting up when you locked the miter in. This saw does not have the same problem.
br /
br /What I didn't like - A retail price of $350 or $329 is way, way too high. Granted this is a 12in saw, but it's a plain vanilla single bevel saw WITHOUT a laser (that is a $60 optional purchase). In my opinion, $329 for saw without a laser is a cheap insult. For the price, you can get a quality miter saw from Delta, Rigid, etc., etc., for a few dollars less and with a few more features.
br /
br /Bottom Line - If you must have a Dewalt, you can't go wrong with this tool. Otherwise, look elsewhere and save a few $$$$

I ordered the Dewalt DW705S12" in June as a Fathers Day Gift. You could not ship in time but promised delivery by Mid to end of July. This product was over my budget at $249 but for Dad I purchased it and gave him your print out on the specifications in his fathers day card. He was excited. On July 10 you told me you could no longer provide me with this unit. The replacement DW715 cost$329 or 33% higher!! I had no choice, it was a committed gift. The product was satisfactory, but amazon should be ashamed for the way they are doing business. They offered me a $10.Credit on Future purchases. No wonder Amazon sales are down!!
