Since I think most folks would consider this a major purchase decision for their shop, I opted to write this review only after I had a chance to really give it a workout. I have been using this saw in my shop for about 8 months and must say I have been extremely satisfied with its performance. I haven't needed to make any adjustments since the intial setup except for the table saw insert: small table vibration will change the screw heights so I recommend you put a drop of epoxy down to hold each of the alan screws in place. pAssembly went fairly well with one hitch. There are seven bolts to mount for attaching the front guide rail that holds the rip fence. Only 6 of the 7 holes aligned correctly, so I have to admit I was cussing and swearing a bit when the 7th bolt wouldn't go in. I had to drill and tap a new hole (6 bolts are probably enough but I was determined to get that 7th one in), so I was mildly disappointed that Jet's manufacturing quality let that type of defect slip through.pThings I really like: the handwheels are big, have a nice feel, and they have very little backplay. The lock down knobs that hold the saw's height and angle are real secure. Teflon glides are mounted on the side of the ripfence which gives you a nice smooth action. The fence also sits very low on the table - I have no problem ripping 1/8" plywood. Except for the inductive kick when you start the motor, its otherwise pretty quiet. Table vibration is really minimal, even though I have the saw mounted on a mobile base. pQuality of cutting is superb. I use thin kerf blades and have cut just about everything from 1/8" ply to 12/4" cherry and yes, it cuts like the proverbial hot knife thru butter. There is ample power to keep the blade rpm consistent even through the thick hardwoods - something my 110V saw could never do. pThings that I think could be improved: though its fine when locked in place, the rip fence is cumbersome to move especially when you are making minor adjustments. I'll rationalize my comment as a price trade-off. That's primarily because the fence slides on only the front guide rail. The teflon/plastic screw inserts they use to adjust the heighth and squaring of the fence are a bit tacky - they are hard to turn and should be made better. I also think the blade guard can be improved: to remove it you have to loosen a bolt that's underneath the table insert. I don't like that because first you have to pull the insert, and second you have to put a wrench and your hand nearer to the blade - I think there are good designs out there where the blade guard can be bolted and unbolted entirely from the outside of the cabinet. Finally, I'll note that the primary table top has a bevelled front edge, but the extensions wings do not. I can't figure out why they didn't bevel the extensions wings as well, because you end up with two sharp corners on the front edge of the table where the extensions wing get mounted. I ended up filing those corners down so that there was no possibility of scraping my hands or potentially marring any wood surface.pAll totalled, the saw still gets my 5 rating with the comments noted above. I researched and compared this saw to several other manufacturers that I concluded cost several hundred dollars more for the same level of quality and performance. I also recommend buying a left tilt saw - I think it's safer because the saw teeth tilt away from you when doing angled cuts and you're less likely to bind or kick back the work piece.

I was in the market for a cabinet saw, so I read up on cabinetsaws in magazines and discussion boards. That helped me narrow it downto 3. The Jet, Delta, and Powermatic. I also knew I wanted to get a left tilt saw because I see them as a little safer than the right tilts (when it comes to pushing stock against the fence on the right hand side).pAll the literature I read said good things about all 3 saws. Some people preferred on over the other, but in all the reviews I read, the one thing that everyone said was the the Jet was the best value, the only thing it didn't have in it's favor was the reputation of Delta and Powermatic (some people may over look the Jet because it's not made in the US, but from what I've read it's just as solid as and has a good design). All things being equal, Jet got my money because of the price, which allows me to buy some other things for my shop and something nice for the boss who agreed to let me buy it.pAnother selling point was the fact that Jet recently bought Powermatic, so the company plans on being around for a while. Hope this helps. happy woodworking.

Upon deciding to set up my own shop, after several years working in another, I agonized over a table saw purchase. My previous shop had a Powermatic 66 and I was concerned that my limited budget would leaving me wanting more saw. Upon receiving and setting up this Jet saw, all of my concerns were gone. It is easily a match for the Powermatic 66 and the Unisaw I worked with previously. It has power, finese, and a great, solid feel. I love the fence, a better-than-Beismeyer copy. The fence's uhmw siderails are beautiful and the sight glass for setting cut width has grown on me in the past couple of months. The fence is very close to the table and I am able to cut the thinnest material. The action for setting the blade height and angle are wonderfully smooth and lock solidly. There is no noticeable vibration (it's heavy tool), and I have not needed to make any readjustments after a couple of months of near constant use. The table is large and was machined flat. The motor is powerful but quiet, the tool is solid. All in all, it is now my favorite tool. And I am nothing but pleased with the purchase.

I owned a Powermatic Model 66 for several years; we used it in our piano rebuilding shop, and then I sold it a few years ago. I did a lot of research before I bought the Jet. I wanted a left tilt saw like the Powermatic; I was just used to that set-up. The Powermatic was a very nice machine, but there are actually some things I prefer about the Jet. The Jet handwheels crank really smoothly and easily, and the trunnion gears mesh better, especially around 45 degree tilt, than the Powermatic's did. Set-up of the Jet took me a few evenings; I know that other people could have probably done it in less time, but I am a stickler for accuracy and wanted to make sure that all the tables were perfectly straight and flat after I assembled them. This took a little time with a straightedge, but was achievable with the cast iron table and extension wings; like the staff in Fine Woodworking, I was able to adjust them so I could not detect any deviation from the straightedge, even out to the ends of the extensions. The extension wings will flex slightly, so you have about.005" either way to play with depending on how you support the wing when you tighten the bolts that attach the wings to the main table. After tightening the bolts, though, they stay. No shims were necessary between the main table and the wings to achieve flatness. I couldn't insist on the same precision from the wood table insert however. It had a slight bow in the center. I suppose I could drill another hole in the middle of the right extension wing to add some support and force the table board up in the middle, but it's not critical right now.pThe instructions for the Xacta fence are not totally clear, and it took some going back and forth between the manual for the saw and the manual for the fence to figure out which "table" they were talking about when they referred to either the main table, the extension wings or the table insert. (If you have some mechanical sense though you should be able to figure it out, otherwise just call Jet.) This was probably because the fence is designed as an add-on for other saws, as well as being the stock fence for the Jet. The saw is made in Taiwan but the fence in USA, so if you are assembling the unit with ratchets you will need both metric and U.S. sockets. The rust preventative on the table and wings is somewhat messy, but cleans off quite easily: I just used a rag dampened with some naphtha. The saw makes extremely smooth cuts and the accuracy is exceptional. I installed a thin kerf Freud 50 tooth carbide blade (TK906) and it seems like it may be the only blade I'll ever need. Vibration is very low (it passes the nickel test-you can stand a nickle on its edge when the saw is running) and the motor is fairly quiet. The fence is solid, works well and stays parallel to the blade, and adjustments are very easy and simple. Miter gauge seems to fit slot well and is good for all but the most precision cuts: for those you can invest in a more expensive guage. I am overall very impressed with the saw. I do some precision cabinet work and fitting, and it appears that the saw is everything I could ask for. The only complaints I have are very minor: I think it would be nice if Jet threw in a can of touchup paint like they do with their other tools; the fence got a little banged around in shipping and the paint got rubbed off in a few places; and one of the brass screws holding the plastic fence side on was broken off. When you get it all together the saw is extremely heavy (Shipping weight was 500 lbs, not including the fence, extension table, etc.). So I would highly recommend a mobile base if you ever plan on moving it. I am looking forward to many evenings of enjoyment with my saw. ....

I have a 3hp Jet table saw that went up in flames last week. Well at least the motor did. pKeep in mind that I have NEVER touched the motor on this saw.pI was working on the table saw and smelled something very nasty. It was not wood or even a hot wire. It turned out to be the run capacitor on the motor over heating and burning uppThe next day I pulled the motor out (not an easy chore as the motor weights over 70 pounds). When I got the motor off its mounting plate and outside the table saw cabinet, I pulled the cover of the outer enclosure where the power wire from the magnetic switch connects to the motor. The inside was PACKED with dust. "Where's the gasket?" I asked myself. Not good.pSo I put the motor on the bench and removed the metal covers from the capacitors. One is the run capacitor; the other is the start capacitor. Once again, both of these covers were packed with dust. There are 2 wires running from each cap to the inside of the motor through a hole and I could see dust inside the motor. Not good. A TEFC (totally enclosed fan cooled) motor - right? Well Jet should call theirs a BEFC (barely enclosed fan cooled) motor. pAnyway, the run cap was totally melted down so I took the motor to a local repair technician that spent 2 hours talking to me and diagnosing the motor. He hooked up a new run cap and bench tested it first. Everything sounded fine but a squeal started emitting from inside of the motor. So he pulled the motor apart only to find the inside full of wood dust. The wood entered through the holes in the case where the cap wires pass through. Then HE said "Not good". The windings were discolored. They began to overheat causing more resistance in the windings causing the run cap to overheat causing the cap to catch fire.pHe told me run caps hardly ever go bad and that the dust entering the windings were the cause. But he went on to say that the lack of rubber gaskets on the covers was the root cause. Clearly Jet's fault. So I e-mail Jet with my explanation and their response was:p"THE WARRANTY IS OUT ON YOUR MACHINE"pThis was their entire response. And in all CAPS to boot!pNow here's the kicker. I am forced to buy a replacement motor from Jet. I wanted to buy a Baldor or Leeson motor. Even a Dayton would be better AND cheaper. But no. Electric motors follow national specifications published by NEMA. NEMA specifies the dimensional characteristics of the mounting plate, shaft diameter, and distance from the mounting plate to the center of the shaft. All critical for a given application, but not with Jet. This motor has all NEMA 56 specs EXCEPT the shaft diameter. pMy recommendation:brIf you are considering buying a Jet product, check for these gaskets.

The only problem I had is with the fence. The threaded holes for the nylon set screws were so rough you couldn't turn the screws. The allen wrench keeps slipping in the nylon sockets. Had to clean the holes out with a 1/2"x13 tap. That made the holes too loose. A few wraps of teflon tape around the screw threads took care of that problem. The fence face was not square with the table because the poly fence facing on one side extended about a 1/16" below the other. The guide rail was drilled incorrectly and the tape measure was about 1 1/2" off. Way beyond the adjustment range of the cursor. I bought the saw from a local Woodcraft store. They replaced everything with no problem, but we went through 2 fences before we found one that was acceptable. The replacement guide rail fit perfectly, but the finish on this one was poor. It looks like there was no attempt made to sand out the rough spots before it was painted. So far this is cosmetic only. Would I buy this saw again? Yes. But I would first make sure I checked out the fence kit... although that's kind of hard to do through mail order. There is also a clang when you first turn on the saw. Probably from the starting torque and maybe some looseness in the motor mount and/or arbor and trunion, but the saw cuts fine right now. If there is any problem, I'm sure it will show up within the warranty period. I like the design of the fence, but the workmanship in the fence does not match the quality of the rest of the saw. I was told by the store personnel that this is not an uncommon problem. They were prepared with the fixes.

I usually dont do reviews but in this case with the Jet JTAS cabinet saw I was really so taken with the finnish of especially the top surface of this saw I think it deserves one... as I usually buy and already have a Delta contractors saw I was so impressed with the overall fit and finish of this saw that I bought one... I was even more impressed when I pushed the start button because it makes less noise than my contactors saw with the same blade.... amazing. I have wanted a cabinet saw for some time and have also looked at them all.. I am very satisfied with this saw... BTW:I already own a jet 6 inch jointer which is why I also chose this machine. Nice Job....!

I spent considerable time researching various table saws before deciding to purchase the JET left tilt 10" cabinet saw. This research included reading all of the magazine reviews I could find, seeing the saws in person and reading all of the helpful reviews here at AMAZON. The saw arrived in six boxes (including the mobile base). Everything was in perfect condition and assembly was very easy and uneventful. The extra $25 for FED EX 3 day delivery is highly recommended. I was prepared for the minor assembly quirks mentioned by other reviewers but I did not experience any problems at all--and believe me, I'm not complaining!! The JET compares very favorably to its closest competitor, the DELTA unisaw. The JET cast iron table and extensions are nicer, fit and finish are at least as good (better in my opinion, but that's subjective) and the cost is $200-300 less. I'll be curious to see how it holds up over the long haul but I'm certainly not expecting any problems. This product absolutely deserves five stars.

After researching table saws all summer long, I finally ordered the Jet 10" Left Tilt with 50" XACTA Fence. The other main contendor was a General Left Tilt...but since I couldn't seem to find one anywhere, I settled with the Jet. Nevertheless, I'm quite happy with my decision.pThe saw arrived within about 4 days and packaging was in mediocre condition. Surprisingly, nothing was damaged....except for a couple nicks/scratches on the front rail.pIt took me about 3 hours to assemble everything. Directions were not bad, but could use a few more illustrations or pictures. The "maiden rip" was a nice chunk of 8/4" hard maple with a 50 tooth Freud combination blade. The saw bogged only slightly...hardly noticeable. I probably should have purchased a 24 or 40 tooth for ripping.pA couple people had advised me to get the Delta mobile base since it is a bit more stable...and I'm happy with it too. The legs for the extension table needed to be mounted a couple inches inboard, but this was easy. I was a little disappointed with the extension table. It is made from a medium density fiberboard. I think it should have been made from baltic birch or something more stable.pThe one problem I noticed is that the fence cursor could not be adjusted far enough. This was easily fixed by drilling and tapping two new holes on the front rail. Otherwise the fence is great. Easy to adjust and smooth as glass.pOverall I gave the saw a 4, but really it is probably a 4.5. It is definately the best bang for the buck and deserves a 5 for value. I'd recommend the saw to anyone.

I bought my table about a year ago and had used it to build some furniture, maple tables and toy boxes. The table is just great, the process of putting it together was relatively easy since the manuals were not that well developed. Jet needs to review the instructions and provide a good list of parts for the whole assembly. They could go as far as adding other items as suggestions i.e. table mobile bases, dado inserts, etc. brAs for the fence, I agree with the great majority, I had to play with it. I was about to buy a new fence but I decided to call the Jet tech support and they gave me some ideas in how to correct my erros. Am I 100% satisfy? I will say I am 1/16" off in my adjustment. I agree with those dissatisfy, Jet needs to come up with a better fence system so the end away from the locking mechanism does not swing.

The saw arrived with both ends of the rail box open and I immediately feared the worst. Fortunately, it was all uphill from there. This saw is tremendous. Once all of the boxes were in the basement I began the assembly by carefully reviewing the manual instructions. All parts fit perfectly together. The assembly was a bit tricky working alone. Attaching and aligning the extension tables and the front rail were especially tough but this was not because of poor manufacturing or design. Making a stud to fit into the holes in the bottom of the front rail will simplify its' installation. I finished the assembly and alignment (very little was needed) over a two day period. My only complaint is that the HDPE pad on the front fence clamp was cheesy and soon fell off.pThis saw cuts like a dream. Jet provides a sheet of critical measurements (QA data) such as arbor runout with each saw. This saw is whisper quiet and holds alignment. The difference in taper on the front of the main table and the extension wings is disconcerting and should be redesigned. The extension wings and main table aligned perfectly and the extension table also. I have seen others complain about the fence but mine was perfect.pI have waited until I had some experience with my new saw. I feel that it is truly the best buy when compared with the Delta Unisaw.

I have had this saw since December, and to date, I have not one single complaint with the saw. I made the mistake of buying a router lift to go in the end of the table. The router lift does not work very well at all, I would go as far as saying it does not work for all pratical purposes.pMake sure you buy the outfeed rollers on the back side. I bought the 36" one and wish I had purchased the 48". The outfeed rollers are a must, it make working with the saw very painless. I removed the anti-kickback which does not work, but does leave a mark on the material as it passes over it. I bought a mobile base which works well. I do not move this machine often, but when I do, it sure is nice. For those who say they wont move this machine much, you will, and when you do, you will be thankful you spent the money on the mobile base.pI have removed the router lift, which was worthless, and just bought a shapper instead. I can't say I have one complaint about this saw, it is NICE.

I have been using my Jet left tilt table saw for about a year now. I love it. One of the best shop investments that I have made.I paid the extra 25.00 for the fed ex delivery. Highly recommended. It was worth it. The fit and finish were beautiful. I spent about three hours putting the saw together. The only snag I hit was that one of the holes on the front fence guide bar did not line up. I drilled and tapped a new one. also the front corners on the cast iron wings were sharp. I filed those down to avoid digging into a piece of priemo wood. The saw is quiet and runs exceptionally smooth.I bought the thee pack of freud blades and also the 8" super dato cutter by freud. I have not found any thing that I cannot cut, rip, or dato. I primarily keep the combination blade installed for most applications.I would highly recommend this saw to anyone interested. It is a real work horse!

I spent months trying to decide between the Xacta and the Unisaw. Did I chose right? You be the judge. The saw went together without a hitch. Fit and finish are great and the quality of the table is beyond reproach. The fence, however is another story. The first fence rails arrived smashed at one end. The second set had bumps all over the sliding surface...it was as if dust got on the piece before it was painted. The third set of rails were acceptable, but not perfect. After I mounted the fence to the rails, I found that when I adjusted the front of the fence 90 degrees to the table, the rear did not match. Also, the other side of the fence was not parallel. The fence tube was twisted. Four fences later, I've got the same problem, although to a lesser degree. It's a real shame that Jet has allowed a great saw to be knocked down by a so-so fence, especially when they are going up against the legendary Delta, with the original Biesemeyer fence. Every Biesemeyer fence owner I know says their fence angles are dead on from front to back and side to side. Knowing what I now know, I'd probably go for sure thing, rather than the cheaper thing, since the fence determines the cut of the saw.

I purchased this saw mid-December. It arrived within a week and the saw looked great. Very little assembly required. The rails were damaged, looked like a forklift had driven over them and flattened one end. Called Amazon and they said they'd ship new rails from the Jet factory within 7-10 working days. That was more than a month ago. So, I can crosscut, but no fence yet. The saw deserves 5 stars; poor parts replacement drops it to 4 stars. Fit and finish are excellent; quality is obvious with every part of the saw. I would buy again in a heartbeat, but probably from a local dealer so I can pick it up myself.

I'm afraid I have to agree with one of the other posts regarding poor warranty service. I purchased a the left tilt saw (along with an 18" bandsaw and dust collector) in November of 2004 and for almost 2 of the last 5 months it has been inoperable. Initially I phoned tech support to report that the motor stopped and they speculated that it was a problem with the start capacitor. They sent a new one and I installed it but the motor still did not work. At their instruction I did some diassembly and determined that the windings of the motor were charred black so they said they would send me a new motor, however it wouldn't be available for more then a month. I phoned back the following day and asked if they could send a motor from a display model, new or used. The fellow I spoke to said he would "see what he could do" and call me back that day. He never called. When the motor finally became available I was assured that it would be shipped by 3 day air since it had been so long. It wasn't shipped as promised. I called only to find it out that it went by standard ground transportation. When it arrived I opened the box only to find that the 60+ pound motor had about a 1/2 of an inch of packing underneath it and consequently the fan housing was smashed into the fan and the mounting plate was bent. Futhermore they sent the wrong motor. I have a left tilt saw; they sent a right tilt motor, even though I provided the model number and the original motor tag (along with a special form they required). I phoned again, spoke to the same person and was told she would overnight a new motor. It's been 5 days and I'm still waiting. Obviously I'm a bit frustrated at this point hence the reason for my first ever product review. It may well be that the product is as good as any other companies but in reality it is only as good as the company that stands behind it and right now they're not very impressive. If you're going to be relying on this saw for your business I would recommend looking into another brand.

I did alot of looking around before I purchased my Jet table saw. My neighbor has had a Powerematic for about 10 years and was trying to get me to invest in one. No question about it, the Powermatic is a great machine, but the cost is a litte hard to swallow. Espically since I have a lot of equipment to buy. pI was also interested in a Delta Unisaw, but could not find one set up at a dealer within 100 miles of my home. I guess Delta doesn't really need (or want) my business. pThe saw went together very easily. The directions were clear and no missing parts! It took me about 5 hours, by myself. You really need to take you time to line up the iron extensions, you'll be glad you did. The balde was perfectly lined up to the miter slot, and the fence required just a little tweeking. The saw is quiet. You you don't need to raise your voice for someone to hear you while the saw is on. The only difficulty I had was the rear rail blocked the miter slot a little. So I elongated the hole for the bolt and it lined up perfect.
It's great!

I was choosing between the Jet and Delta products and the price won me over on the Jet tablesaw. The fence was the same between the two, and the horsepower and features were identical. Although I have never used the Delta product, the Jet saw is a dream come true. There is no vibration, and the fence locks perfectly to offer perfect cuts every time. I was scared having read the previous reviews where people have had significant trouble in the set-up of this saw, but mine went together without any issues. I have to say that the instructions could be more clear, however. There was a lot of thought that had to go into it prior to making any new connection of parts in the assembly process. I took my time and made sure of what I was doing prior to making any move and it worked for me.

I looked long and hard for a table saw that would be the last I would ever have to buy and a saw that I could pass down to my son, he's only 11 now. I chose the Jet for the VALUE, great saw and a great price and when I bought mine I got the extra $50.00 rebate (my wife liked this). I purchased it from my local(within 125 miles) distributor. I picked the saw up and got it to the basement, I had to uncrate it first. The saw went together great, until, the fence rail, the holes in the angle support were perfectly aligned, but offset from one end to the other by 3/4 of an inch. My delema, send it back for a new one, and wait two weeks or just redrill the holes, redrill worked great. The saw cuts wonderfully. Aside from the fence rail problem everything was in good order and works great, glad I bought it. Good luck with your decision.

Assembly was relatively easy, We had a problem with the fence guide rail holes didn't match up on the front rail.Still waiting on a response from Tool Crib and JET. Everything else went very well. I give this saw 4 stars for the good quality workmanship and it went together like a dream, good assembly directions but need to be read more than once or twice to understand. Illustrations would be nice.Would be a 5 star saw but with the problem with saw it can't be.

I purchased this saw 2 years ago as a replacement for an older contractors saw. After looking at several saws, I decided on the Jet (altough I did consider getting the 5hp version of this machine).
br /
br /Set-up was around 3-hours including putting it on a mobile base. Other than normal table top cleaning and vacuming, this saw requires very little maintenance. The fit and finish are nice, and there is almost no vibration. The fence is well constructed and works great. I built an outfeed table for under $25 instead of purchasing an aftermarket table for $150. I have moved the saw twice since I purchased it, and it is still in excellent condition!!!
br /
br /PROS:
br /
br /1) Rips 8/4 cherry like butter with a good blade;
br /2) FLAT table top;
br /3) Easy to lower/raise and angle the blade;
br /4) No vibration;
br /5) Easy access to the motor and belt
br /
br /CONS:
br /
br /1) I use a 1100cfm dust collector, maybe I need more juice since I have to clean out the cabinet after each use
br /2) Blade changing is a little cumbersome, you have to secure the blade with a scrap peice of wood;
br /3) Blade guard removal is also a little cumbersome, you have to losen three bolts (one is under the table insert).
br /
br /ALL in all, a great machine, it rips and crosscuts great hardwoods great, runs quieter than my older craftsman contractors saw, and is a heavy duty workhorse. For the money, I can't see spending $2,000+ for a Powermatic 66.

I replaced a 15 year old Craftsman contractors saw that I had tweaked and adjusted until I thought it was as good as it could be. I had replaced the belt with a link belt, the pulleys with a set a friend had machined, and added the trunnion adjuster from In-Line Industries. I was satisfied with the results until...
br /
br /The delivery of my new Jet was prompt and courteous. The trucking company scheduled delivery for 1:oo pm, and I was called by the driver 3 times before the delivery to update me on the schedule. There was no charge for a lift gate, he backed the truck up my drive, put the box on a palette jack a placed in the garage exactly where I wanted it.
br /
br /Unpacking was uneventful. My son and I slid the saw off of the plate and onto the Jet mobile base. From that point, it took about an hour and a half to finish the assembly. Everything lined up and the fit and finish was perfect. Included inside the base was a spec sheet showing run out, blade alignment to miter slot, RPM and max height. All of these were far better than the accepted range.
br /
br /I then thru on a Freud combo blade and did so test cuts. Like the preverbal hot knife thru butter. Didn't have a nickle in my pocket to test vibration, so I used a dime instead. Balanced it, and then cut a piece of 4/4 oak without knocking it over.
br /
br /I have since been building shop cabinets with 3/4 melamine. The 50 inch fence is great for those large, heavy sheets.
br /
br /This is the third Jet tool I have purchased. Additionally I have the 6 inch jointer and a 16 inch band saw. While these machines are not Powermatic and Laguna, they still have the best quality for the dollar available today.

Great Saw / Poor Motor

I bought my saw in March 2003. It has not had heavy usage. I think the overall quality of the saw is good (flat table, fence in line out of the crate, vibration practically non-existant, large handwheels, good fit and finish and good power).
br /
br /The motor is the exception to the quality. It is cheaply made and failed in the middle of a project. I replaced the start capacitor (it had overheated and was leaking oil) and upon startup, the motor lost rpm, stopped and completely blew out the replacement start capacitor. The motor is out of warranty and I found out the windings were charred and shorted out. Needs a new motor. Found out that there were no gaskets on the motor end caps or anywhere else that I could find allowing sawdust to penetrate the motor (so much for TEFC). This can lead to premature failure but I don't know if that was the direct cause of my motors failure. I didn't expect it to last forever but 2 1/2 years of light use shouldn't cause failure. I have other machines that are 30 to 40 years old that have had much more extensive use and the motors are still good.
br /
br /I will not be buying my replacement motor from Jet!
br /
br /One other mild complaint... the dust collection box could be better designed to channel the sawdust down to the collection port. It just stacks up inside the cabinet and needs perodic cleaning. A minor inconvenience.
br /
br /Would give it five stars if not for the poor motor quality.

Best cabinet saw for the money

I decided to start my shop off right three years ago. I sold my old Craftsman table saw and bought a cabinet style shop saw. I looked all around at Delta, Powermatic, Grizzly, General, Shop Fox and Craftsman. When you look at the specs of these machines, there is not a lot to separate them. For me the issue came down to the size of the table, and the quality of the fence. I looked long and hard at the 50" XACTA-fence and I liked it a lot for accuracy and ease of use. brThe table and fence of the Craftsman, ShopFox, General, Grizzly and Dewalt simply were not in the same class. brThat left the Delta and Powermatic. Without much to separate the Jet over Delta I went with the fact that the Jet does spin at 4200 rpm compared to the Delta's 3450. When cutting dense woods, speed matters. brFor those who don't know, Powermatic and Jet are both made by the WMH tool group. They are very similar. I went to a dealer of both tools. He told me there is not enough to separate the two to justify the purchase of the Powermatic! Go figure. brThe Powermatic saw does have a bigger table and uses the accu-fence as opposed to the XACTA-fence. Theoretically it's extra weight and finer tolerances will make it easier to keep in tune over the years. But I am just a homeowner hobbyist so the JET is plenty sweet for me. No sense driving an Aston Martin to the supermarket everyday.brWhen the tool arrived the first thing I thought was thank goodness for mobile bases. At 468lbs, without one, it wouldn't be going anywhere. Also be sure to get the extended mobile base to capture the legs of the extended table. brAssembly was not difficult even with leveling of the melamine table, although having a friend to help was a great boon.brI have had the saw for 3 years, with no problems. I have since bought a Jet 14"floor standing drill press and continue to be impressed with jet tools.brThe next question is left tilt or right tilt. I chose left as if you do not run your cuts perfectly, right tilt saws tend to bind. I for one do not always cut perfectly.brMost table saws show their weakness on slow down. The blade begins to wobble. This baby is steady as can be through dead stop. Oh yeah and it is the quietest tool in my shop. brPrice paid: about [$$] including 50" extended table, XACTA-fence, 10" CMT blade and mobile base.brOf note this is an even better deal for a limited time right now as Jet is offering the tool at the same price including the XACTA router lift built in and a free Bosch router!brWhen I first heard this I was steamed, but what the heck I bought the tool three years ago.

I cant wait to much business will be lost. so i took the leeson motor off my planer made an adapter plate at the local welding shop and reamed the pulley to fit the leeson motor. What a great saw! Take advantage of what Jet has to offer here. This is basically a Powermatic saw, for about $[money] less! I have to admit that the legs for my extension table arrived bent from shipping, but the service team at Amazon took care of me and shipped a new pair that arrived within the week. Setup of the saw was fairly easy, if a bit time consuming. Once I got it put together though, it ran very smoothly. Consider ordering a zero-clearance throat plate, I think it's worth the little bit extra you might spend. I've got no bones about this saw, it's really a great tool.

I bought the Jet 10" saw and it is great. Plenty of power, I rip through 8/4 maple and cherry like butter. The finish is great, The assembly was a piece of cake. Just the slightest little bit of adjustment in the fence was needed. I didn't spend more than 5 minutes adjusting the saw, Delta should learn a little from them. As far as the fine adment on the fence, well it is just easier to tap the fince with your fist to move it 1/32 of an inch. Maybe I am just old school... I considered heavly between the Delta and the Jet but I am glad I got the Jet. There is nothing that irratates me more is than when you spend $1500 or more and nothing is in line.... I will buy other jet products.

As a former Delta Saw user, I will never go back. I was frustrated by the inability of my Delta to cut a straight line. I researched the Jet line, and am very satisfied with my purchase. This saw takes an experienced craftsman a few hours to setup. Don't plan on unwrapping it and turning it on. You have to assemble just about everything but the motor mounting. Fine with me, I enjoyed setting it up. You better have a little time on your hands to get the Exacta Fence calibrated and straight. Once straight and adjusted, this saw can rip a paper thin cut. Every cut I have made is accurate and clean. I have only seen motor warping on one cut, but I can blame my dull blade. This saw is quiet, you can carry on a conversation while it is on. The table is solid, level and heavy, which is very useful when cutting large or heavy wood. Remember - you have to build your own wiring. I put in a 30Amp, 230V breaker in for this saw. According to 1999 Wiring Guides, 20Amp will do. The 3 HP Motor is plenty, granted you use the right blades. I have a small shop, and opted to get the mobile base. Definately worth it. This saw is worth the investment.

When I first opened the garage door to put my saw into its place, I could'nt wait to start ripping lumber. It took less than 30 minutes to put the saw together. Like every tool, there are minor adjustments to make to your satifaction and perfection. The saw performs very well with accuracy and no hesitation with hardwoods. If I had enough money and room I would definately purchase two table saws.
