Description:

When the inquisitive engineers at Milwaukee Tools started asking professional carpenters what they wanted in a portable circular saw, they consistently heard the same three things: pure cutting power, maximum control, and all-day comfort. The result of their research went into the creation of the Milwaukee 6391-21, arguably the best-built circular saw on the market.p For starters, the 6391 has a monster 15-amp, 5,800-rpm motor that produces 3-1/4 horsepower; that’s nearly as powerful as a worm-drive saw, yet this 7-1/4-inch Milwaukee model is more than one third lighter.p Look closely and you’ll notice that the blade is mounted on the left side of the motor. That southpaw position gives right-handed users a much clearer view of the cutting line since they no longer have to lean over their arm to see the blade. The 10.4-pound saw’s thick aluminum shoe tilts up to 50 degrees for bevel cutting.p The 6391 is also equipped with Milwaukee’s exclusive Tilt-Lok handle that can be adjusted to the most comfortable cutting position: to the rear for vertical cutting, on top for horizontal cutting, or anywhere in between. The saw comes with a carbide-tipped saw blade, blade wrench, storage case and owner’s manual. -- iJoseph Truini/ip bWhat’s in the Box/bbrCircular saw, carbide-tipped saw blade, blade wrench, storage case, and owner’s manual.

I just recieved this saw from Amazon a couple of weeks ago. I have used it on two occasions. The power is awsome! You can barley feel the wood as you cut. All the controls work great. However, I had to place some oil on the front bevel lever pivot to get it to move fully into the locked position. One of the best features is the fact that you can easily see the blade and the cut line through an opening. I can cut along a line with perfection!! The tilt-lok handle is cool too. You can set the blade to cut 3/4 of an inch, then lower the handle to the normal position. Your hand is no longer way up in the air as with other circular saws. This is a fabulous saw. Considered Porter Cable. Glad I chose the Milwaukee. It's great.

I purchased the Bosch rear handle worm drive construction saw. I like the handle on the rear of the saw. It is ideal for cutting vertically directly away from you. A top handle saw is better for making cuts horizontally, as in across the front of you. What did Milwaukee do? They made a multi-position handle. That way you have all options open to you. No need to buy two saws. Milwaukees penchant for power is evident in this saw as well. My hat's off to Milwaukee, their engineering did it again. Highly recommended.

This saw is an excellent choice for reducing sheets of plywood to safely then cut on the table saw. I use the Freud TK303 blade for a very smooth cut. This saw can cut through 3/4 inch cabinet grade plywood with ease. I am right handed and bought the left blade saw since it improves visibility to the cut.

I have been replaceing my subfloor in my kitchen and bath. I needed something lighter than my wormdrive circular saw. After reading the reviews on Amazon I decided to purchase this model for the light weight and power.
br /It has worked very well so far and the light weight is a relief to my arms.
br /The case does fit very snug, and I had a hard time getting it to go in until I found out to change the blade setting before putting it in the case and pushing down hard before snapping the lid shut. Probably the worse thing so far has been ajusting the depth of cut. The release lever seems to bind at times. It definally is a keeper.

Plenty of power and a boon for lefties like me!

Typical Milwaukee quality - heft, balance, power and very good follow-through at the end of the cuts. Not every saw can do that, especially in dense material like 3/4" MDF. The saw doesn't bind, drag, moan or veer off-line in operation. Whenever I use a straightedge clamped to the workpiece as a cutting guide, this saw follows it straight and true effortlessly and with surprising speed. And, being a "leftie", it's a big plus to have a saw that fits my style AND that gives me different handle adjustments too. All-in-all, this an excellent value that is sure to please even the most persnickety end user.

I'll state up-front that this is the only high-end circular saw that I've used to any degree but I don't see how any saw could top this one. I bought this saw, after much research, to replace a crummy old Skil saw I had. I gave consideration to the Porter Cable and DeWalt saws too, but this one seemed to stand out in my book - and in many of the reviews I read. I do wish it had the dust collection features of the PC though and a blade brake for added safety.
br /
br /At the same time I purchased this saw, I also bought a Freud Diablo blade and put on it. I have used this combination to build a variety of ww'ing type projects and this saw had performed flawlessly. The saw has ample power, is well-built, and handles very easily.
br /
br /I'm sure whatever your circular saw needs are, this saw is up to the task. Definately recommended.

I bought from Amazon about 3 years ago. The LH saw is great for a righty - the blade is much more easily visible than on a RH saw.
br /
br /This saw has a very easy to use blade depth adjustment, and a convenient handle position adjustment. Both are welcome features, and make day-to-day use of this saw a pleasure.
br /
br /I use the 6391-21 to primarily cut sheet goods. The cut quality is excellent. The saw has ample power for 3/4" plywood at a rapid pace. The feel and balance are very good.
br /
br /I recommend this saw.

Tested a left handed saw - but didn't care for that manufacturer. A friend had a right-handed Milwaukee. Never bogged down. I'm a contractor and use this for cutting through wood (PT, plywood, pine 2x6, etc) also have cut through aluminum skinned panels. Like butter! I think I hear the saw laughing - looking for a challenge.
br /Do it right, buy it once and get on with your life.

I thought that a left-blade design might make it easier to see the blade and follow a line. That turned out to be true for me, a right-handed sawer. It does blow dust into your face, but you learn to expect and deal with it.
br /
br /I was attracted by the nice big and sturdy base and how easily it would adjust and stay adjusted. Other saws had cheap stamped bases and cruder looking adjustment features.
br /
br /The saw is extensively made of magnesium alloys and so is the base. I found that it is not as slick as the cheap stamped units. Waxing it occassionally turns out to be surprisingly helpful as it adds perceived hp.
br /
br /The adjustable handle is not all that easy to adjust, but it is a feature and useful on occasion.
br /
br /Blade depth adjustment is kind of a 2.5 hand task until you do it a few times. Like the other adjustments, it is sturdy and positive.
br /
br /It is as light as it can be, sturdy and reliable as all my other Milwaukee drills and saws are, I am sure, and certainly as powerful and smooth as anything.
br /
br /The case is really strange, seemingly made for something else (I cannot figure out what), and although it is huge, the saw will only fit inside if the blade is up and the handle is down and you are dedicated.
br /
br /Why not five stars? Well, there is no excuse for not having a saw brake so the blade will not spin forever after you shut it down. That can cause problems with your cuts and is unsafe.
br /
br /Made in Mexico? As long as management can make more money by sending work overseas, they will do so. There are no quality issures with overseas assembly, all things being equal.

This is by far the best circular saw I have purchased. This saw has plenty of power even for the bevel cuts. The adjustable handle is a nice feature that makes for easier handling when cutting at odd angles such as framing a roof. I have already put over 20 hours on the saw and have been very pleased. The blade on the left side is great, I would not go back to the traditional right sided blade.

I already owned the right handed saw just like this one so I knew what to expect for the most part. I like the saw and it feels the same as the right handed milwaukee tilt-lok I bought 7 years ago (used it a lot since then too) as far as quality goes. I had been wanting this saw to be made for years and the other day I saw it online. I always wanted a left and right handed saw of the same brand and model to have on the job. I never cared for any porter cable tools and that is the only lefty saw I ever see anywhere anymore.
br /
br /I like that it has a five year warranty in case something unexpected went wrong on it.
br / The case is nice and the wrench is standard but it does not come with a rip guide.
br /I use the saw both left and right handed depending on what I'm cutting and it is equally comfortable. I like that during right handed use I don't have to lean over to see the blade/ cut line. It does feel a little weird at first but your back will appreciate it if you are like me and your body is starting to age.
br /Another user said it was not safe for right handed use. I disagree, I have no problem but then again I have a lot of experience with saws and so forth as it is how I make my living- I believe in safety very strongly.
br /I would reccomend using a dewalt yellow rim blade. I like the 24t for framing and the 40t for finish. The blade that comes in the saw cuts good but throws material in the direction of your face a little too much for me. Dewalt has always made the best normal priced blade in my opinion. I like the Milwaukee saw though. Makita blades are ok too.
br /
br /I would reccomend this saw to any other pro carpenter. If you build only decks you might want to go worm drive- nothing pulls a saw like wet pressure treated lumber. Don't get me wrong this saw has plenty of power and is plenty tough for all carpentry work on a daily use basis. I could just see someone who is putting it through max wet lumber duty daily could want the hypoid as the overall construction is a little more solid. On the plus this is an extremely powerful saw for it's size.
br /
br /My old right handed one has helped me finish a lot of jobs. Milwaukee has always built a good product from my experience.

I needed an alternative to my skil 77 wormdrive, it was either this or the Porter Cable so I went with this one. I am a pro, so I use it daily. So far it performs as expected. Mitre adjustment works well, depth adjustment works well. Havent tried the handle adjustment (and you probably never will either) The only negative seemed to be two raised indentations on the plate which needed to be filed down. Plenty of power, well balanced.

I have to parrot the review of the man using the Freud blades.
br /
br /The Milwaukee left blade saw with a nice fine tooth blade is a cabinet maker's best friend.
br /
br /I traded a Ridgid worm drive saw for this one, and I've never been happier. Let me count the ways.
br /
br /1. left hand blade: makes it easier to see the cut line, you're not cutting across yourself as with a standard blade saw.
br /2. handle position, the handle position being essentially centermass on the motor makes the saw more balanced than a worm drive
br /3. power, this Milwaukee has it, it's got all the power and drive of a worm saw, and I don't have to oil it.
br /4. A multi-position handle. You can adjust the handle position that of pushing the saw (like a worm drive), to almost pulling it and everything inbetween. Let me tell you, I've been in positions, cutting siding off a house handing off of scaffolding, and being able to customize my cut by moving the handle to an easier position makes the difference between a scary cut, and a nice safe day at the office, if you get me.
br /
br /
br /Final word, with the reputation of Milwaukee tools for durability, and this saws functionality, this may well be the last circular saw I own.

Decent power, certainly not worm drive torque though. It does well by compensating with speed. However, the blade guard continually gets caught on the the wood being cut, which is more than annoying. I'm thinking that for $30-40 more, the Bosch Magnesium may be better. Keep in mind, this is also not made in the US or Germany like many of Mil's previous products, it's hecho en Mexico...

well. The saw is powerful, and fairly lightweight. Not jumpy either, very smooth. The case is clown-shoes big and the adjustable handle is a bit stiff, but overall a worthwhile investment and a good deal at that. (this review is for "left blade" consumers only. I cannot speak for the other side.)

Good strong saw, 2 things bother me though, 1 made in mexico, 2 the saw slides around in the case and seems to be a circular saw / router case, not a standard saw case with slots to hold extra blades or small parts.

After much research I decided on the 6391 because of the blade left design. After using it on a few cuts I am already impressed with it. The saw is incredibly powerful. I swapped out the stock blade for a finish blade (note that it needed to be installed face down) to cut some stair treads I was using for a shelf. It went though my work like a hot knife through butter. I had to double check that I was actually cutting at first because the saw didn't even whine as it entered the material. Needless to say the saw has plenty of power. I think the lights actually dimmed in my basement when I pulled the trigger.
br /
br /The case is fairly large but the saw fit in easily. There IS a space for spare blades in the bottom of the case. It will hold 4 or 5 blades which is more than enough for me. The lid of the case has a pocket to stow the manual as well as a slot for the blade wrench and one for the rip fence. (Note that there is a special fence for this model because of the blade left) I am not sure it they changed the case but mine does hold the saw and accessories with ease.
br /
br /The real advantage is having the blade on the left. Being able to watch the blade enter the work and hold the line is very nice. If you have ever had a problem with wandering cuts I recommend this saw. I doubt I will ever buy another saw with the blade on the right. If my impressions of this one prove true I doubt I will ever have to replace this one.

I was building a butcher block face grained glued hard maple top for my workbench. The strips were about one and one half inches wide. The finished top was seventy three inches long, thirty six inches wide and two and one eighth inches thick. The glue up created many uneven lengths in the ends of the three foot wide top. They had to be cut off and I ordered this saw after reading the other write ups on Amazon. Put a straight edge on and squared it up with the top's edges and cut. (I did do a test cut first.) The cross cut was beautiful. No tear out and no splintering and a beautiful finished edge which needed a little light sanding. What a saw! Obviously plenty of power and capability.I had worried about the cross cut and finish of the top's edge after all the work put in to jointing and planing all these pieces (over one hundred hours). Not to worry anymore! I look forward to using it on other projects.

I used the Milwaukee 6391-21 7-1/4" circular saw for cross-cutting and ripping 3/4" thick Brazilian Cherry boards with help of Milwaukee 49-22-4146 Rip Fence Kit when installing 700 sq-ft of this type of wood to my house's floor a month ago. The saw was easy to use, well ballance, could cross-cut and rip the extremely hard wood without any problem. Before using this saw, I rent a 10" table saw by Bosch from Home Depot and another 10" table saw by DeWalt from Cresco for ripping the board but I couldn't even finish ripping 3' long board--I believed that both table saws didn't have enough power. I highly recommend the Milwaukee 6391-21 circular saw together with the 49-22-4146 Rip Fence Kit if you need a powerful and precision circular saw for cutting or ripping hard wood; this saw deserves a five-star rating for being honestly advertised--it performed exactly as Milwaukee claimed.

No complaints at all. I love the adjustable handle angle. More than enough power for general carpentry needs. I'm not planning on using it on concrete or anything of that nature, so I can't comment on its performance in that category. The left-hand blade took some getting used to as my old saw was a cheap BD model. Love it now.

br /As for this particular saw, I was VERY pleased with its weight, construction, and ease of use. I used it a moderate amount during its first project and it performed wonderfully. I was pleased with the purchase and would buy it again. It came in a HUGE plastic case that is unnessesary, but could be a tool case for your son or a barbie chest for your daughter. Power, balance, adjustable grip, Smooooth, this is a great saw. I have a Craftsman and Black and Decker but this saw is the best I have used. I did extensive internet research and in 3 different reviews the Milwaukee 6391 was the top rated saw in its class. I have to agree, this is a heck of a saw. With the right blades it cuts 1/2 inch and 3/4 inch ply like butter. Keeps a straight cut and it is easy to see the blade while cutting. Also comes with a nice case with room for a couple of blades. Note: the allen wrench to remove the blade is stored in the saw handle not the case.

I am an amateur woodworker who likes to "have the right tool for the job."
br /The saw is working well, comfortable, easy cuts and fairly quiet ( as far as you can get a circular saw to 'sound' quiet). My peeve is about the carrying case it comes in. It is HUGE , yet you MUST have the saw dropped down as to its max. cutting depth position for it to fit in the case. Otherwise it does not close. even then, it is NOT a snug fit, it tends to rattle around. Even with ALL this space, there is NO assigned place for a spare blade and the rip fence to be placed snuggly. Only the wrench has a designated spot. So , the saw is good, but the case design needs a LOT to be desired. Come on Milwaukee, get it right please.

I have been updating and replacing my entire tool collection for about a year. It was time to buy a corded circular saw, and I looked at all the major brands. I wanted a saw with plenty of bite, but I also wanted it to be light enough to use for critical cutting, not just framing.
br /
br /I am right handed, but I prefer the added visibility and control I get from a left blade saw. I eliminated several excellent right blade saws and finally chose this Milwaukee. On paper, it seemed to be a good blend of brute power and control. The adjustable handle looked to be a perfect idea to use it like a worm drive or move the handle up for maximum control. The price was resonable and Amazon's service was good...like it always seems to be.
br /
br /This saw is powerful and does what I ask of it. Why do I feel lukewarm aboutit? It just isn't satisfying to use. From the moment I opened the case, I was disappointed. The saw seems too wide for the case...the lid will not close tight unless I force it the last 1/2", which bulges the front and back slightly (Milwaukee confirms that it is supposed to "hold the saw tight". It does hold it tight, but it also seems to be the wrong size. Any case that is too small will hold the saw tight. The adjustable handle is hard to move (until I used WD-40 overnight, it was almost frozen in whatever position I left it).
br /
br /I enjoy using high quality tools and I am pleased with my Milwaukee drills and recip saws. This circular saw just doesn't feel right when I open the case and set it up for whatever I'm doing. This is a good saw, not a great one. I have read glowing reviews, but my saw is not that good. Milwaukee should rethink their engineering and provide a saw worthy of their name.

I am not sure if it is just me but out of the box, I found that at best after 3 or so feet into the cut with the help of a fence consisted of a spare sheet material to guide the base alongside, the saw likes to get stuck, deviates from the straight line, and pretty much messes up the perfect straight line cut. the line deviates from 1/8 to no more than 3/16ths from the line.
br /
br /Material I have used this saw on is 3/4 MDF and plywood. Both have the same results. This is with the stock blade that is included.
br /
br /It seems the blade gets loose over the course of the cut adding to the way it gets off course. I am starting to readjust my methods and using this saw for a purely sloppy (and slow) cut and using the same sheet fence on the piece, adjusting that for my VERY RELIABLE TRITON ROUTER to finish the edge.
br /
br /This is probably the first time I truly regret a purchased tool. The official milwalkee edge guide (sold separately) for the saw isn't worth anything in my book. I thought I can't go wrong with the Milwalkee brand.

I have used this saw for four years working on my house. It has power. I have cut concrete, stucco, wonderboard, and lots of DF/HF and pressure treated lumber. The tilt handle thing is worthless to me--every time I adjust it, I seem to put it in the same place, where the handle is on all saws. Left cut is a poor idea for right handers. The real issue though, is that when I broke this saw and took it in for repairs, the repair cost made keeping the saw unrealistic. On a kick back I broke the gear housing. It was a careless setup on my part, but kick backs are going to happen, so there you go. Build quality on this saw is okay but not great. According to the repair folks, the problem is that quality is declining thanks to Chinese parts, but replacement part costs are higher than ever, thanks to Milwaukee. I just purchased a DeWalt 364K--it looks a little tougher. I need a sidewinder for some of my work, or I would just buy the HD77. The Milwaukee is okay, but really does not measure up against the big worm drive saws. The tool repair folks are not impressed with this saw, and they see them now and then.

Read all the reviews here and decided to give it a try. The saw I previously used was a 20 years old SKIL saw. Let me tell you, this saw doesn't hold a handle to the old SKIL. It sounds like any other cheap saw from Harbor Freight (kind of rocks instead of bearings feeling). Besides, a pretty strong vibration would come and go while you are cutting. I don't know what I'm going to choose next, one thing I know for sure, I'm not going to keep this saw. The hight adjustment leaver got jammed and it took all my strength to loosen it. Bottom line, it would be a good $30 saw, not a $130 one.
