The Jigsaw feels solid and is comfortable to use. The LED light for illuminating the cutting area is very useful. The mechanism for changing the bevel/angle of cut is frustrating. The locking tab does not securely or fully engage the angle adjustment setting mechanism. The foot adjustment lever that is used to latch this mechanism in place is difficult to use because the tab does not fully engage. Skil forgot the basics: mechanical adjustments on a tool should be simple, accurate and secure.

I'm a pro carpenter who bought this saw for its scrolling function; which is necessary for certain cuts. But; that is the only time I use this saw, and have had to buy a real (Bosch) jigsaw for every other kind of cut. The orbital mechanism is a hokey little spring that fell apart in under an hour of use. The base plate is ridiculously weak and ineffective. Don't think you're going to make a square cut with this saw; the base plate hopelessly wiggles, and there is no blade support what so ever. Also; the trigger is too big, when you go to pick up this saw your fingers turn it on because the trigger is for three fingers, not one. For the occassional scroll cut it is somewhat usefull, but for anything else it is hopelessly useless!

Good luck making a straight cut, this thing has too much blade wiggle. Also the trigger is too big, so when you pick it up 9/10 times you grab the trigger and turn it on. Safe... uh yeah.

Skil makes some good tools for the homeowner and this one is no exception. I wouldn't use this jigsaw for commercial applications but is perfect for light to mid duty use. I probably didn't need the laser light function, but a toy - I mean tool can't have too many bells and whistles! The only drawback to the transaction was the shipping time. 9 days.

I have not had a chance to give it a real good tryout yet but the small jobs I have done so far, I think this saw is far superior to the Black Decker and the old Skil that I had.
