I use this saw for light commercial use and I really like the magnesium plate. It is more durable than the aluminum plate model. It's nice to have a general duty saw with a blade brake too. I have used several Hitachi saws and found them all to be well worth the money. This one is definitely better than the one they sell at Lowe's though. Only down side is that it doesn't come with a case.

The depth adjustment is not smooth. Dust gets trapped very easily and makes the depth adjustment difficult. Otherwise it is a good saw.

I can't find anything I don't like about this saw. Good power, nice feel, easy to change blades. I couldn't find any other saw that performs this well in this price range and has an electric brake. Overall a great saw.

First of all, reviewing a tool on the basis of Amazon sending out a "used" saw is somewhat irrelevant to the quality of the saw itself. I've ordered a lot of stuff from Amazon, and unless it makes specific mention of being used or refurbished, it's new.

This seems to be a very high quality tool. I bought the saw recently, so I haven't really had a chance to use it, other than playing with it so far... I'm impressed with the fit and finish of the saw. 15A is beastly compared to the 10.5 amps on the Makita 5740 I've been using. I bought this saw to tackle heavier duty jobs that the Makita isn't really designed for, but I have a feeling that this may end up seeing substantially more use than planned.

Difficult to rate....

I was very disappointed with Amazon on this one. The unit I received was clearly used. Worse, the shoe was slightly bent, and it seems that the motor was loose in the casing. The feel of the saw was also disappointing though. I chose this, and a Milwaukee 6390-21, and the Mil was clearly superior in feel. Unfortunately, I can't rate its (Hitachi) operation because I returned it and kept the Milwaukee.

br /I tried not to mention this, but the mint green color was almost toy-like. The old industrial green that they used previously was much better.
