Fantastic Motor but Failed to Perform

I received it in a box that barely holds the saw: packing a 60 lbs table saw in a regular cardboard box with 4 pieces of foam at the corners is begging for disaster during shipment. The box is torn at many corners, and the blue color of the saw can be seen from outside. The saw is set up for immediate use. However the dents at 3 out of four corners, originally thought to be just cosmetic due to the reconditioned nature of the saw, turn out to be major functional defects. The dent on the left corner causes the front rail to be slightly bent, preventing the fence from being used fully on the left side. I am also unable to adjust the spreader of the blade guard to be in line with the blade despite many attempts. On the plus side, the motor is quite impressive: smooth start-up and consistent power result in cuts similar to what I can obtain with a stationary, belt-driven saw. The fence: it's a pleasure to use. It made me wonder why the Makita people have not come up with something similar to this. However, I can not use it due to the defects and I am shipping it back.

As other reviewer I too was concerned over the box and minimum of packing used. Fortunately there appear to be only cosmetic blemishes to the fence and underside of the table which still seem to have been inflicted during shipping. Ran a few pieces thru it and it cuts as promised... very strong and smooth. If you want the free table that is now thrown in with a new saw for an extra $100 I would go for the new one.

ALMOST good as new

I just received my recon saw yesterday. As mentioned in other reviews, the packaging left a lot to be desired. The saw itself was wedged into the standard styrofoam form fitting pieces that contained the saw in the box without shifting. The miter guage, blade guard and fence however, were tucked under the saw and were loose. Unfortunately, my fence was damaged during shipment. The lockdown mechanism was bent and no longer worked. I contacted customer service and they're working on sending a replacement. The saw itself is wonderful. The perfect compromise for someone like me who doesn't have the room for a full size one. It took a long time for me to finally decide to buy this saw and don't want to ship the whole thing back, so I'll wait for good news from Amazon CS. Without the fence damage this saw is worth five stars!!! I'll update my review when my fence gets replaced---stay tuned. I received my fence this week. Bosch sent a brand new one. It locks down tight and is very accurate once adjusted. Thanks for a great saw at a bargain price.

I was very surprised and very happy to recieve my saw in new packaging and to see that it had been totally reconditioned. I couldn't find a mark on it. It assembled easily and runs perfectly. The motor has plenty of power which makes for very smooth, easy cuts. It is everything they said it would be.

I ordered the reconditioned Bosch 4000 table saw, because of my need for a compact, powerful, and precision working tool (for small furniture repair). I have been to woodworking shows and was impressed. Then I found The Tool Crib. I ordered the saw, and to my amazment, it arrived in 2 days. Although it was a factory reconditioned saw, I am not able to find so much as a scratch on it. The blade and fence were factory aligned to about 40 thousands of and inch, after working on it, I was able to realign it to less than 10 thousands of an inch. Smooth start up, and fine adjustments is just what I needed. I could not ask for any better saw.

Save some money and order this reconditioned saw. the one I bought had some little scraches on the table top but not a thing that would effect the performance of the saw. It seems to be working great for me. I built a play house for my sons and I did a lot of ripping of 2x4s and it worked out great. I own other bosch tools and they all have been reliable. I also own a 18v Skil high performance drill and saw and that works good too. Skil is made by bosch but not as expensive. Keep up the research because you will find what is the best buy for your hard earned cash. Amazon has been a good place to research products for me and to buy from.
