I've been the very happy owner of one of these great saws since 3/02. During that time, I have not had a single problem with it. It is an outstanding saw for the money; a true value. I've ripped and cross-cut nearly every type and thickness of domestic and exotic wood that you can name without a moment of hesitation by the motor. You can't appreciate how much nicer a cabinet saw is compared to a contractor's saw until you use one.pAdd a Forrest Woodworker II blade to it along with a home made zero clearance insert and you'll be all set to tackle any challenge. The Shop Fox Classic fence is a high-quality Bies clone and serves as an excellent base for a wide variety of jigs.pBy this saw (or the S version if you prefer a right tilt). You will definitely be a happy camper!
For the $$ it is the best on the market

Carboard shipping box, yes. Damage to saw, no. I had some damage to the extension table (a dime sized indentation about 1/2" deep) that I called Grizzly about. They immediately agreed to send me a new extension table, but said that they didn't have any in stock so that it would be 6-8 weeks before I got it. I offered to return the damaged one, but they declined and said I should keep it, which I did. 5 weeks later, the new table arrived. I found their customer service to be AWESOME. I've bought a bunch of stuff from them and have always had great service and great products.
br /
br /Assembling the saw was very straightforward. The alignment of the blade and trunions was spot on, and getting the extensions installed was a piece of cake. It took longer to assemble the mobile base than to set up the saw, and that part was not a big deal either. I got the Shop Fox mobile base to go with it, and it has worked out nicely.
br /
br /The dust collection port, which is hooked up to my Oneida 2hp commercial dust collection system, works like a champ. The saw is smooth, stable and quiet. Vibration is almost non-existant, and the nickel test isn't even a test on this saw. I have yet to stress the motor in any way, although I haven't cut any really hard thick wood on it yet.
br /
br /As another plug for Grizzly, if you are a particpant on the Woodnet woodworking forum, you will find that a guy who goes by the name of "PappaGrizzly" hangs out there a lot. He is the president of the company. People on the forum who ever have any kind of problems end up having direct access to the head man. He is very responsive and gets problems solved very quickly. Pretty impressive for such a large company.
For the money? No question!

I thought I was unique in that I research everything until I'm blue in the face, and I'm a perfectionist that is very picky. At least until I started reading reviews on different tools that other woodworkers have written. I've used MANY different saws over the years including JET (10" cabinet), Delta (Industrial 12"), General (10" cabinet), and Powermatic (10" Cabinet).
br /
br /WHY GRIZZLY: After researching specs and prices and opinions the Grizzly kept coming up over and over. A friend of mine who owns a JET told me to skip the piece of junk Grizzly and buy JET (He's loyal if nothing else). He paid about 1400 for his JET and it's a very nice machine. I had heard enough good things about Grizzly though, and talked to a couple of guys who owned them and decided to take the plunge. Besides....the 1023SL goes for $895 and ships for $78. The comparable JET goes for $1499 + shipping, which is a difference of over $600.
br /
br /SHIPPING: I ordered the saw on a Monday and it was delivered to my garage the next Monday. Grizzly says it takes 3-5 days, and I'm sure it normally does....I ordered mine the week of Thanksgiving. It arrived in perfect condition (I've heard stories of way banged up boxes and dented saw etc). I was very pleased. The driver all but put the saw in my garage.
br /
br /SET UP: I got home at 5:30 PM and started to set the saw up. After two trips to the store for solvent (cosmoline removal) and a plug end (the saw ships without a 220 plug end so you can put on whatever type you have installed in your wall) I had the saw up and running at 12:00 am. About 4 1/2 hours of solid set up time. I've got to say that I'm WAY IMPRESSED with the accuracy of the saw out of the box. I had to shim the wings and that was IT! The table was square with the blade, and level on the saw. The wings were a slight pain in the rear to put on by myself, but very doable.
br /
br /FIT AND FINISH: Again I'm very impressed. The powder coat looks great, and the paint is where it is supposed to be (no over spray). The only complaint I have in this area is the table top. I've heard a lot of people say that they got their Grizzly with a mirror finish. Mine isn't at all bad. Better than a lot of saws I've seen in fact, but it did have a few grind marks along the outer edge of one of the wings (nothing horrible and nothing to even call and complain about), and it wasn't as shiny as I thought it might have been. (WHO CARES?)
br /
br /FENCE: Here is where I was worried. I haven't been able to find any reviews that talk much about the fence. So let me say this. STOP worrying about the fence. The Shop Fox classic fence that they use is superb. Ya Ya, you can go out and pay BIG bucks on a fence and look down on this one, but you really don't need to. This fence is solid! I put it on the saw made a few measurements and didn't bother adjusting it at all. I'm not sure if I just got lucky, but the run out runs at .001 away from the blade. It locks TIGHT, and it doesn't move. I pushed on the tail end to see if it would flex, and had to put some real pressure on it to get it to flex at all. I would never put that much pressure while cutting on it. I love the fact that it comes with the HDPE replaceable sides. I put the measuring tape down on the rail, adjusted it ONCE and the saw is DEAD on. No more measuring from blade to fence. Oh ya...the fence locks up straight every time. I bet I've moved and locked it 50 times in a row just to test it over the past 3 days and it's never once been off of parallel with the blade.
br /
br /SWITCH: Another important aspect of a saw that many don't think about. The switch mounts in the perfect spot (for right handers anyway). It provides a nice big OFF button for just in case, and it is in easy reach to hit without looking. I've been there and done that with other saws, and the first time it happens to you, you'll understand.
br /
br /OVERALL: This saw is the best saw on the market for the money. Everything about it is heavy duty. Everything about it is quality. The trunions are massive as I've heard, the fit and finish are excellent, and it is accurate. I had to do very little adjusting and it cuts VERY well. If this saw and a JET were the same price....Id buy the Grizzly over again. From the placement of the dust chute and switch, to the quality of the over all product. Buy with confidence.

This Grizzly saw has received high marks in a number of recent reviews in woodworking magazines, typically being recommended as the best cabinet saw for the money. So I bought one. Grizzly shipped the saw by Fed Ex Freight, and I decided to pick it up at the freight depo using my neighbor's trailer (highly recommended...this avoids having to request lift gate service on the delivery truck). As others have noted, the packaging is a bit flimsy, but I got it home with no problems, and the saw was in fine shape. The assembly was straightforward; I followed the suggestion of another reviewer and used WD-40 to remove the preservative goop, which worked OK. Amazingly, when I went through the alignment procedure the saw needed no adjustments.
br /
br /I have only two negative comments: (1) Grizzly doesn't provide an arbor wrench (!). There is a wrench for the nut on the arbor, but no wrench to hold the arbor. Fortunately, the arbor wrench from my old saw fits. (2) The front rail for the Shop Fox fence has to be shimmed to provide clearance for the fence. The shims consist of six stacks of four washers each that need to be positioned between the rail and the front bracket (to which the rail is attached). Besides being nearly impossible to get these "shims" in position (made possible only by using double stick to hold them in place), the arrangement is just plain Mickey Mouse.
br /
br /Overall, I really like the saw.
Hope you have better luck

Have had the grizzly saw for approx 4 years (right tilt model). Replaced my contractors saw of 13 years with the intention of this saw lasting me a long time. Was very happy with the saw initially, and it was a good addition to my shop. The magnetic switch was the first to go after approx a year. Easy enough to replace. The motor gave up the ghost about 6 months later. After talking to customer support and giving them the info it was decided the best route was to purchase the USA made motor which was going to solve all my problems. At that time I decided to upgrade my fence, since I had the fence they are now using on their contractors saws. Well it is now 4 years and the 2nd motor has died. I now have enough money into this saw to have purchased a Unisaw or Powermatic. Just recieved an e-mail of another grizzly owner who also has gone through 2 motors.

This is my third grizzly product and yes I have Jet tools and others but I purchased the 1023 SLX with the cast iron router table and shop fox mobile base with extension. 40 years a woodworker for fun and profit. After spending a year making up my mind to step up from my contractor's saw and then weeks researching forums, I bought this one. Set up was very easy (with one person to help lift and hold) and the saw performed flawlessly from the first. Fit and finish are excellent. Instructions are very clear if one takes the time to read and not try to act intuitively too much. Cleaning the coatings on the metal surfaces took 20 minutes at the most with mineral spirits. Underneath was a gleaming dead on table.
br /Packing from the factory is not the best and a thorough inspection before signing the truckers slip is essential. Note every tear in the cardboard if you don't have the time to remove the crate and inspect the whole saw. The people from Grizzly are never more than a phone call away and really insist that you are satisfied. I would STRONGLY suggest calling their Tech line and discuss with them what you need. They will not pressure you to buy, answer any question and I find the attitude and tone to be user friendly. Call them first. There are specials going on all the time.
br /Power is unfailing. I ripped a three inch piece of red oak at an eight degree bevel with nary a hesitation. Ploughed a 3/4 inch dado in red oak with no wobble or lag.
br /Dust collection with my Penn State 1 and 1/2 hp collector is O.K. but that maybe a function of a small dust collector. Not a problem since there is no dust in the air after a cut but I can't help but feel something could be better. Again not a big deal.
br /For the money there is no better major piece out there. I can't imagine what the higher priced saws have that I would spend the extra 500 to 800 dollars for.

Like most, I was debating between the Delta, Jet and Powermatic. I ended up cutting my budget for equipment by about $500 so I had to find a way to cut a few corners. Enter the Grizzly. I was skeptical at first, but there are plenty of good reviews on the saw, so I ordered it. I just finished tuning the saw tonight and made my first cuts, so here are my first impressions.
br /
br /Anyone who has assembled a Unisaw knows that Delta is not without flaws. The machining on the 1023 easily equals that of the Delta. The 1023 is HEAVY and is assembled well. As for the fence, it took a little tuning to bring it to within my desired tolerences. Save yourself some time and get a Superbar from Grizzly when you order any table saw. You may not be able to see or feel .005", but it will definately make a difference in your work.
br /
br /Now that the saw is tuned, it cuts very nicely. The fence is accurate (when properly adjusted) and the table is flat and true. It doesn't "purr" like the Unisaw, but I can live with a little more noise knowing that I saved more than $600 on the saw.
br /
br /If you spend the time setting this machine up right before you make your first cuts, there is no doubt that this saw is every bit as accurate and tough as its other more expensive relatives.

I've owned the Grizzly G1023SL for a year now. I could't be happier with it. It arrived in great time shape. Set-up took about half a day (the bulk of the time setting it up is getting the shipping preservative off). The table was milled flat as were the cast iron wings. Squaring up the blade with the table and fence was simple. I bought the mobile base with it as I only have a single car garage for a shop. You will need some help lifting the cabinet onto the mobile base. pI don't have any experience with the Jet DeWalt supersaws that are in the same price range but I can't imagine that they can compare. 3 hp with about 500lbs or cabinet saw is a lot more than they offer. This saw runs smooth, cuts anything you feed to it is as accurate as possible. And with the mobile base it's as easy or easier to move around as a contractors model.pIf you can afford $900, look at this saw. It will beat the supersaws and I suspect is an even match for the Delta, Jet other 3hp cabinet saws at a lot lower price.
I would recomend this saw to anyone.

I bought mine last Oct. and have had no issues. I had no problems with the delivery (tipped the guy so he would roll it to the garage), the setup was no problem even for a novice (my first saw), and cut accuracy and quality if excelent. It has lots of power and is so quiet that I can run it late into the evening with no complaints from the neighbors. This saw with some good blades should do for any setup.

After 36 faithful years I gave away my good old Sears 10" contractor saw and stepped up to a G1023SL, acquired over the web direct from the good folks at Grizzly. I opted with the New Penn Freight folk to arrange for a liftgate delivery (an extra $50, but worth every nickel!) being at the end of a 700ft dirt driveway. From order to delivery took 4 days! I was nervous about the as-delivered condition of the saw after reading some of the reviews, but was relieved to find when the saw arrived that the cardboard container was undamaged and the contents were in excellent shape.
br /
br /This is an awesome saw, especially for the price. Its massive construction is almost intimidating. I had to disassemble it in order to get it down to my basement. The motor alone must weigh a good 60lbs! The trunnions are immense. The table and extensions are beautifully machined, and proved true. My wife and I (combined age 134!) wrestled all the parts into the basement with just the help of a two-wheel dolly.
br /
br /Re-assembly was straightforward. The extensions were negligibly out of alignment with the table - maybe I am just lucky! Getting the cosmolene gunk off was something else: mineral spirits will dissolve it, but you need a lot. MEK is probably more effective, but I hate to breathe that stuff! The very sturdy Shop Fox fence assembled with virtually no adjustment needed. Am I lucky, or what? The house lights dimmed a little at the first start, but what smooth vibrationless power!
br /
br /Carps: 1) Being a leftie, I'd like the on/off switch to be on the right side. 2) What use is the rear fence rail? 3) Why can the front fence rail and tube not be moved to the left without drilling and tapping fresh holes? I don't intend to add the optional table extension
br /
br /Conclusion: A great saw at an incredible price

I was nervous purchasing this saw, as I read several reviews criticizing the fit and finish of the parts and describing damage during shipment. The saw was packaged reasonably well - on a pallet (albeit a cheesey pallet), surrounded by styrafoam and encased in a cardboard box. I ordered directly from Grizzly and they helped me arrange a lift gate. Definitely get the lift gate, as the saw is heavy. Once on the ground, a refrigerator dolly works well - you can slide the dolly down stairs etc without damaging the saw.
br /Anyway, I am glad I did not get the Powermatic and I can't imagine needing more saw, regardless of the price.

WOW!! THIS SAW IS THE BEST SAW FOR YOUR MONEY..PERIOD. WHEN I RECEIVED THE SAW FROM THE FREIGHT COMPANY THE BOX WAS DENTED AND RIPPED OPEN. FOR SOME REASON THIS TENDS TO BE A TREND FOR GRIZZLY PRODUCT SHIPPING. MAYBE THEY SHOULD CONSIDER CRATING THEIR TOOLS. MY NEIGHBOR AND I UNLOADED THE SAW WITHOUT ANY PROBLEMS, YOU ARE GOING TO NEED SOME HELP UNLOADING THIS BEAST!!. ONE SUGGESTION, KEEP THE PALLET THE SAW COMES WITH. AFTER THE BOX WAS CUT AWAY I WAS ABLE TO SLIDE MY SAW OFF THE PALLET AND ONTO THE ROLLER STAND, YES ONE PERSON CAN DO THIS ALONE. I PURCHASED AN INCRA FENCE PRIOR TO GETTING THE SAW, SO I HAVE NO COMMENTS ON THE STOCK FENCE THAT CAME WITH THE SAW BUT THE REST OF THE MACHINE IS FAR BETTER THAN I EXPECTED. FIT FINISH, MOTOR, TABLE ARE ALL TOP NOTCH FOR THE PRICE YOU PAY FOR THIS MACHINE. IF YOU WANT THE MOST BANG FOR YOUR BUCK GO WITH THIS SAW WITHOUT HESITATION, FORGET THE HYBRID SAWS (DEWALT,JET). AFTER MAKING SAWDUST WITH MY G1023SL AND SEEING HOW WELL IT PERFORMS, I AM CONFIDENT THIS SAW IS THE BEST VALUE OF ANY TABLE SAW ON THE MARKET. I WILL BE CONSDERING GRIZZLY FOR ALL MY WOOD WORKING TOOL PURCHASES IN THE FUTURE.

Three problems. One, the saw arrived on its side with the box ripped to pieces with some minor cosmetic damage. Two, the motor starts with a big bang and shudder every 4 - 5 starts but runs smooth after that. It passes the nickel test with ease once running. Three, the blade guard and splitter are worthless.Spend time to dial in the table to blade and fence to blade/table accuracy, add a Forrest Woodworker II and 5" Forrest damper and you will have one heck of a saw.I also added the 7' rails and built a folding out-feed table to handle 4x8 sheets on my own. Over all very pleased.

I researched cabinet saws on and off for nine years. In the interim, I made do with sliding chop saws, a buddy's saw, etc. as best I could. Finally, I decided it was time to take the plunge.pGiven that (and I am sure some will disagree) most decent cabinet saws are more alike than different, I decided to focus on my specific needs and not rely too heavily on the reviews of others. I decided right away that I wanted the precision of the Jointech saw train/clincher/smartfence. This allowed me to focus on finding a good saw without worrying too much about the accompanying fence (one of the few differences among good cabinet saws)pThe Grizzly fit the bill. It is stout and strong with good fit and finish. I did not have any problems with the condition of the shipment. I had the shipping company hold the boxes and then set them on a trailer using a forklift. Two people and a dolly made quick work of unloading and positioning othe saw on a mobile base.pMany have commented about troubles with removing the cosmoline. I simply doused the surfaced with WD-40, waited about a minute, and then wiped the majority off (start at one end and go to the other, discard paper towel, repeat). Once that stage was completed, I re-doused the surfaces, waited another minute, and then worked through more carefully. This worked like a charm. Once complete, I cleaned everything thoroughly with a citrus degreaser. The one thing I did not do right away was wax the surfaces. This was a mistake as surface rust formed in a couple of days. Once re-cleaned, paste wax and a buffing wheel laid down a beautiful coating of wax.pI cannot comment on the ShopFox fence because I am using Jointech products (expensive, but incredible value if you want precision)pOut of the box alignment was decent, but just about everything required some tweaking. The extension tables required shimming, the table was a bit misaligned. Not a big deal. In fact, I was kind of happy - it gave me a chance to really learn more about my saw. The entire alignment process (using a Superbar as needed) only took a couple of hours. Not a big deal.pAll in all, I am pleased. The Grizzly was definitely worth the wait.

br /Well I've taken my time piecing the saw together, it's a pretty solid machine and I was on my own so I first built a mobile base around it, which made life sooo much easier on my back.
br /Read tons of complaints on getting the grease off, Guys WD40 comes off like butter and did not take that long.
br /I stand back and admire this beautiful machine, I use to have a craftsman's contractors saw that wanted to kill me every chance it got, it is not fun being fearful of one's table saw.
br /Once the new pride of my work shop was turned on, the reduction in decibels compared to my old contractor saw was so different that I was worried that something was wrong, This beauty cut like butter, pine, Ash, Oak it cut so smooth and so quietly, ripping and cross cutting is no longer a fearful journey. Now I'm patiently waiting for my Jointer and Workbench, all from Grizzly and the Makita Planer and I'm back in harmonious business.

The price is right and the performance is outstanding. The table really shined when coupled with a full kerf Freud blade. I initially had a cheaper blade and it was doing OK, but the Freud made a HUGE difference in quality of cut, vibration, and sound. My tables were flat and cuts were straight. The Shop Fox fence is much improved over previous designs and doesn't budge a mm for me. I added the extension table to the G1023SL to make it a G1023SLX, money well spent. If I had a couple of small gripes, the dust collection port could be flush with the bottom of the collection area so the sawdust wouldn't accumulate so much before it is sucked out. If that is all I'm complaining about, there isn't too much wrong with it. It was a BEAR getting it down into my basement. I removed everything I could to break the saw down into less bulky parts but still I think they cabinet/motor assembly had to be 300 lbs. It wasn't big, just dense. I went back and looked at the Powermatics and Deltas after my purchase, glad I didn't waste the extra $$$.

I didn't purchase mine through amazon but still got it new. I've had it now for about 3 months.
br /
br /First off, it comes covered with cosmolene so be ready for cleaning that stuff. Manual wasn't that great but whose are? No damage to stuff but packaging was cheap. Assembly took me sometime due to cleaning and not being very experienced at assembling table saws. This being my second saw with my first being a contractors saw, it was a challenge.
br /
br /I couldn't get one of my wings to get perfectly flush with the table. But it's only off by a "hair" so I don't think thats much of a big deal.
br /
br /My saw blade, after assembly, was touching the dust deflector. I read the manual and used the arbor adjusting method to get it off. That seemed to do the trick but I hope I'm not doing anything stupid.
br /
br /The gaurd and splitter I don't like much and have ordered an aftermarket one. The fence is pretty cool but I may end up getting something else in the future. The measuring tape that came with it for the fence I replaced with a starret for better accuracy.
br /
br /All in all a good saw in my opinion. I moved up from 1hp to 3hp and I'm not going back! It runs very smooth with no vibrations (compared to what I had at least). Starts and stops well. I was going to get the Delta Hybird and I'm glad I didn't because the extra HP makes a big difference - IMHO. You can cut hardwoods with more assurance. Ripping is Great! I'm pretty satisfied so far

I ordered my saw on a Friday it arrived at my door step the following Wednesday. As seems to be the norm with other equipment I have purchased, the carton's the saw and fence were delivered in were damaged, however, the contents were unmolested and I was able to proceed with the unpacking. Having read many other reviews like this one, I was prepared for what I would encounter and moved forward swiftly.
br /
br /All in all it took about 8 hours from start to finish and the directions were largely clear and easy to follow. Some of the work required a little thought and ingenuity to complete such as connecting the fence tube to the mounting brackets. That was a pain, and it took an inordinate amount of time to figure out how to maneuver the power switch from it's storage place.
br /
br /The setup was simple and everything was right out of the box except the fence parallelism and the fence locking lever which had to be adjusted.
br /
br /Fit and finish are superb and I am convinced that the quality of this unit is equal to comparable Jet and Delta models.
br /
br /I look forward to a long relationship with this piece of equipment.

I RECENTLY BOUGHT THIS SAW AND HAVE BEEN VERY IMPRESSED. I HAVE NEVER OWNED A CABINET SAW BEFORE, ONLY CONTRACTOR SAWS. THE ORDERING PROCESS WAS QUICK AND IT SHIPPED THE SAME DAY. THE ONLY GRIPE I HAVE IS WITH THE DELIVERY SERVICE. I PAID THE ADDITIONAL $75.00 LIFTGATE FEE TO HAVE IT DELIVERED INTO MY SHOP. THE DELIVERY GUY OPENED THE BACK OF THE TRUCK AND MY SAW WAS LAYING ON IT'S SIDE ON THE PALLET WITH BANDING STRAPS LAYING ON THE FLOOR. WHILE LOADING IT ONTO THE LIFTGATE HE TIPPED IT OVER ON THE OTHER SIDE AND ONCE HE GOT BACK ON THE PALLET AND ON THE GROUND HE TIPPED IT OVER AGAIN. IT LOOKED LIKE HE WAS FILMING ONE OF THOSE SAMSONITE LUGGAGE COMMERCIALS. THE BOX WAS PRETTY BANGED UP. AFTER FINALLY GETTING IT INTO MY SHOP HE WANTED ME TO SIGN THE BILL OF LADING RIGHT AWAY BUT I WASN'T BORN YESTERDAY. I UNPACKAGED THE SAW AND AMAZINGLY THE ONLY DAMAGE WAS A SMALL DENT ON THE MOTOR COVER. SO I ANNOTATED THAT ON THE BILL OF LADING TO THE DRIVER'S CHAGRIN AND WENT ABOUT THE PROCESS OF CLEANING AND SETTING UP THE SAW. IT CLEANED UP EASILY, THE TABLE IS VERY FLAT AND EASY TO SQUARE WITH THE FENCE. THE ONLY GRIPE WITH THE SAW IS THE MEASURING TAPE THEY GIVE YOU TO APPLY TO THE FENCE RAILS IS NOT ACCURATE, SO I AM GOING TO REPLACE IT WITH A STARRETT ON THE ADVICE OF A PREVIOUS REVIEWER. OVERALL GREAT SERVICE, VERY POWERFUL SMOOTH RUNNING SAW (ONCE I POUNDED OUT THE DING IN THE MOTOR COVER FROM THE POOR DELIVERY). I WOULD HIGHLY RECOMMEND BUYING THIS SAW, FOR THE PRICE YOU CAN'T BEAT THE VALUE.

Thanks for your feedback
I ordered the Grizzly 1023SL left tilt 10" cabinet saw and, being my first order from Grizzly combined with buying the saw sight unseen, was a little bit nervous. I arranged to pick up the saw at the freight companies local docks. Upon my arrival I was greeted with several long faces due to the condition the saw arrived in. The box was torn open at the top and motor side and the wings (which were originally packed inside the box on top of the table) were stacked outside on top of the box. After looking over the saw and wings it didn't appear as if the saw was significantly damaged so I took it home. Big mistake! The motor cover had been hit and driven into the motor fan making the whole thing useless. I immediately called Grizzly's customer support and received courteous and prompt help (although it took 10 days to get the new motor and bracket). My advice to anyone buying this saw would be to ask if they can crate it, as the reinforced cardboard box seems not to hold up very well (and it is very top heavy). After receiving the parts I was able to finally complete the assembly (I had cleaned the rust preventative from table and wings prior but was unable to go further w/o the new motor). All parts fit well with no abnormal adjustments being required. I checked the table slot to blade parallelism with a Super Bar and a Dial Indicator and found it to vary only .006" across the entire width of the Bar. Being a toolmaker I wasn't satisfied and, due to Grizzly's simple and effective design, was able to improve this to less than .0015". This surprised me to say the least! I then installed a new Freud 50T carbide Teflon coated combination blade. The rest of the saw adjustments (90 and 45 degree settings) were "perfect" right out of the box. Next I installed the ShopFoxä Fence (Biesemeyer clone) without a single problem. This fence is very solid and accurate. I did (after reading another review) install a Starret metal strip backed fence tape (from Lee Valley). This was supposed to improve the accuracy a bit but I can't see much difference other than it can't stretch when installed. Due to the weight (430 lbs) of the saw I would also advise the use of the ShopFoxä heavy duty mobile base. After now running several different wood types (1" Oak, 2" Walnut, Plywood's, etc) I am very happy with the power and accuracy of the saw. This saw uses a 3hp 220V motor, which initially made me hesitant, as I didn't have 220V in my shop. It really was no big deal to add the 220V to my shop and the power and smoothness of the saw is well worth the $50 in supplies (to add 220V). I looked long and hard at Dewalt's saw and Jet's SuperSaw before ordering from Grizzly sight unseen. After doing so (even with the shipping problems) I can highly recommend Grizzly and the 1023SL. It's a fantastic saw, especially for the money! pNOTE: Now two years into using this saw and it still peforms great!

If you have room for a cabinet saw, I highly recommend one over a contractor's saw- especially since the Grizzly is cost competitive with a good contractor's saw. The saw's weight and 3 hp motor will allow you to cut through about any wood smoothly without bogging the motor down. My saw arrived in good shape and was easy to set up. It came with a very good manual. I've had my saw for 18 months and only had one little problem- a couple weeks after the saw arrived, the switch went bad. A quick call to Grizzly and they sent a new switch- no problems and good customer service. The guard is junk, but it's no worse than any other manufacturer's blade guard. I added Board Buddies as an anti-kickback device.

Very pleased with the saw with the exception of the blade splitter...very rinky-dink...looks like it belongs on a cheap contractor's saw. Now I need to search on the internet for something decent that will work with the Grissly.

This is the best saw for the money in the $1000 and under range. I was looking closely at the Jet SuperSaw and the Dewalt equivalent but I am so happy I decided on this saw. This is a saw that will last a lifetime. I now have a shop full of Grizzly tools: this table saw, a 17in bandsaw, the 6" jointer, etc. and I absolutely love the quality of these tools. They've taken care to provide average/above average woodworkers very high quality, great features and at an excellent price.
br /
br /The fence that comes with this is superb. The cast iron top and powder coat paint all add up to a great feel. This sucker is heavy so make sure to get a mobil base (I have the Jet for this and the HTC for other tools-both are good and will do the job).
br /
br /Although it may seem daunting to go to 220v - I highly recommend it. For most this isn't a big deal if you're in a garage that has the access panel - an electrical contractor can do it pretty cheap and you'll love the added performance. The 3 hp motor on this makes smooth cuts like butter and it is actually a lot less noise than my old Craftsman table saw.
br /
br /Get it and enjoy, you wont be dissappointed!

I bought this table saw through Amazon about two weeks ago and couldn't be more happy. I was a little concerned about the shipping problems mentioned elsewhere, but mine came in perfect condition. Yea, it was shipped with a wood crate bottom with carboard/foam sides, but as long as the shipper is reasonably careful, this shouldn't be a problem. The table top was beautifully machined and is as good or better than the Jet or Powermatic table saws I saw at Rockler.
br /
br /The motor is nice and powerful and the heigth and angle adjustments are smooth and accurate. The ShopFox fence is heavy duty and accurate. The table saw came almost perfectly aligned, and after about 1/2 hour I had the alignment dead on. Total setup time was about 2 hours including alignment. The only reservation I have is that the miter gauge is kind of chintz, but still decent. I still can't believe these guys can provide so much saw for under $1000. I bought a Bench Dog router table attachement at the same time for $300. Trust me, this a way better value than the Bench Dog router attachment which gets rave reviews. If you buy this saw, you won't be disappointed assuming it dosesn't get wacked during shipping. It's really nice to get a great deal on something.

I am getting back into woodworking after a 10 year hiatus. I am taking the time to set up a good workshop. One of my first decisions was on which table saw to buy. My previous woodworking experience was on a ShopSmith (which I still own). After reviewing much material it came down to either getting a Hybrid contactor saw (i.e. Dewalt 746XB or Jet JWSS-10PF) or the Grizzly G1023 SL cabinet saw. The three saws are all about the same price $900. I initially shied away from the Grizzly because I thought it would be too much saw and I worried about getting that 467 pound beast into my basement. pAfter much thought I decided to get The Grizzly G1023 SL cabinet saw. The main reasons I chose this saw: br1. Left tilting- seems like all the woodworking magazines were saying left tilting is safer.br2. 3 HP- I figure that the more power the better and that I will "grow into" the saw. Wiring a 220v, 20 amp circuit is no big deal for me.br3. Good dust collection capability.br4. The weight 467 lbs- Originally I was concerned about the weight because I had to get it into my basement. I was convinced that the more mass will make a smoother saw. I would order the saw and figure how to get it into the basement later.pDon't be intimidated by the weight. I was able to get the saw into the basement with the help of my 14 year old son. I reduced the weight for the move by seperately carrying the individual parts (i.e. fence, motor cover, cast iron extension wings, parts bag etc.) and removing the table top. I used a dolly to bring it into the basement.pNo doubt about it---this saw is awesome. The fit and finish was very good and accurrate. I used my TS-Aligner to check the saw. The arbor runout was 1 mil, the 90 degree angle setting was within 0.1 degree and the 45 was within 0.05 degrees The saw has plenty of power. I use the Forrest Woodworker II blade for smooth cuts.pThe best thing about the saw is the Grizzy logo emblem. It is like a raised medallion with a grizzly bear on it and with the motto "Purveyors of Fine Machinery Since 1983".

listen, I have been a cabinetmaker / installer for fourteen years. I am currently building setting up my own small shop. have a lot invested. want the right tools!!! read every review. rode around looking at contractor saws in the same price range.evaluated every option.finaly bit and ordered a grizzly.br(sight unseen)! my advice to you. SHIPPING! product packaging could improve.shipped in a cardboard box strapped to a small pallet with plastic straps. hopefully you luck out like me. no dents, no dings, no problem. if so you will have an unbeliveable saw for the money. high quality, accurate, heavy duty. listen im a layman I don't care about tolerances and .000 crap.a saw should just feel right. you know what I mean? this one does. and if your debating between left and right tilt. go left. adds versitility not to mention the safety factor. (the wife's all about that) all in all very good tool for the money!

This saw is fantastic. I had a Craftsman contractor saw that was 25 years old, so I was due a new saw. After much research comparing contractor and cabinet saws, I settled on the cabinet. The next decision was how much horsepower I wanted. I finally settled on 3 HP and I'm glad I did. I can't believe the difference between my old contractor style saw and my new Grizzly. This is a great saw for the money compared to competitors comparable models. It is very quiet and the cuts are unbelievable. You won't be sorry with this saw.

Pathetic. If you buy anything with the Grizzly brand you'd better hope you get a product that works. Further, I have experienced some pretty bad customer support (haven't we all) but I've never experienced one as inept as Grizzly's. The only good news is that they are fairly easy to get on the phone and seemingly helpful ... and it stops there ... they just can't seem to get the job done! I purchased a Grizzly product in June of this year. Obviously the manufacturer of the product changed the design and did not change the product number or the assembly instructions. It took me a while to get them to recognize that they had a problem that it might be in THEIR OWN SELF INTEREST to address ... i.e. that every unit they had in inventory probably has the same problem. This is particularly interesting in that another customer who wrote a review had the problem BEFORE I did. After numerous phone calls and weeks they FINALLY admitted they had a problem and that they would get me new instructions and a $50 gift certificate. (I think the $50 gift certificate would amount to probably $2 per hour ... an insult, not a "gift" ... after all I did help them find their own problem and should have saved them numerous more customer support problems). The revised instructions came after another month or so and were nothing more than some dimensions for me to modify the product which needed another phone call or two to get an interpretation for (I hope they did better with the remaining units in inventory). To add a little more salt to the wound I finally actually received the gift certificate on October 14th (with inadequate postage) and it was for $25. It doesn't matter as I won't step foot in another Grizzly show room to use it.
Can't be happier

I can only echo what most of the other reviewers are saying about this saw. Excellent value and a solid machine. I don't think you can find another saw close to this one in the same price range. While I'm not too adept at assembly, got the saw put together in an afternoon without any problems. Only thing the manual left out is to attach the support bar to the on/off switch. Unless you want to spend over 2 grand for saw, don't hesitate about buying this one.

I considered the Delta Unisaw, the similar Jet, the Powermatic 66, the other Grizzly saws, and others and decided that this saw was simply the best, not just for the money. There are now two in the family. Both of us are delighted. These are also mighty handsome machines.
br /
br /There is no substitute for the power and rigidity and mass of a machine like this.
br /
br /Expect to spend some pleasant time with a file or stone softening sharp edges and corners on the table and on the miter guage. Set it up carefully. Buy a good blade. Then expect great performance.

My 1023SL was delivered a week or so ago. The top and extension wings were, of course, slathered in grease. However, on the top of one of the extension wings was a stringy splotch of what looked like tar.
br /
br /I cleaned everything off and found that the tar substance had stained the surface. No raised area, but a sizable stain nonetheless.
br /
br /I emailed Griz customer service letting them know. They emailed me back asking for a picture. I send them digitial photos a week later and received a email telling me they were sorry and a new wing was on the way.
br /
br /Excellent service as always.
br /
br /The saw itself is easy to setup. The fence is tight and accurate with no adjustments required for me out of the box. Overall, the saw itself is tight and accurate.

I'm just your everyday, run of the mill small home-shop woodworker. I needed to upgrade my outdated and worn out contractor saw with something more robust. I'm not one for laying down a lot of money without doing my homework, so I did some extensive research on cabinet saws. Because the Chairwoman of the Home Appropriations Committee scrutinizes all of my woodworking purchases, I needed to make a smart choice. Someone once said, "My second table saw should have been my first", and that was the catch phrase I held to when making this decision. I wanted to get it right the first time. br brI was fortunate enough to be able to pick up the saw at the loading dock and haul it home on my own. With a little help from my dad and a normal dolly, we were able to easily get it out of my truck and into the garage. The packaging was intact, which was a pleasant surprise after reading the many reviews that had complaints about the condition of the box after delivery.pWe got her up on the heavy-duty Shop Fox mobile base with ease by tilting the saw enough to slide one side of the mobile base under it. Then we tilted it towards the opposite side and slide the other half of the mobile base underneath and connected the two halves of the base.pCleaning the packing grease was time consuming, but straight forward. I was completely blown away by the mirror finish the saw's top had! Note I did not say, "mirror like", because it truly was a "mirror" finish! We then affixed a power plug. The extension tables installed without any trouble. I then began the normally labor intensive process of truing the blade and table. I was expecting to spend the rest of the day on this process, but every aspect of the saw's alignment was dead-balls on... right out of the box!!!pHitting the power button, she powered up without hesitation. The sweet hum that followed was such a wonderful sound... second only to the first cry of a newborn baby! I shut her down, stood a nickel on the table on end then powered her up again. It stood there motionless like GEN Stonewall Jackson.pI'm using an Incra TSLS fence system, which is compatible with the G1023SL with one notable exception. The TSLS back rail doesn't clear the G1023SL's splitter/blade guard rod without modifying the guard attachment or cutting the TSLS rail in half. Needless to say, I won't be cutting the rail, so I'm looking to get Beisemeyer's snap-in splitter. I've since cut many pieces of oak and maple with a WWII blade and I'm not even sure a hot knife goes through butter as smoothly! My wife called me out by saying, "Now the only reason your cuts will be bad will be from operator error." She couldn't have said it better.pPROS: - The G1023SL is a high-end cabinet saw with an entry-level price.br - The fit and finish are impeccable (did I mention the table top shines like chrome!?).br - Easy access to the motor.br - Alignment was unbelievably accurate out of the box.br * Grizzly's customer support! They were extremely helpful with the many "what if" and "what about" phone calls I made before I bought this saw.pCONS: - As noted, the splitter/blade guard rod interferes with my fence rail.br - Too much packing grease (but I know it's a necessary evil).pI could not have made a more sensible or financially responsible choice than the G1023SL! My table saw needs are far and away exceeded by the G1023SL's performance. You can spend more for a Delta, Jet or Powermatic cabinet saw, but the only difference will be less money in your bank account.

First I should mention I am a Grad student of Industrial Technology and have study manufacturing for several years... in addition to be a carpenter for about ten years. I purchased this saw and it arrived about 2 weeks later. The saw arrived in a cardboard box that look like it traveled from taiwan on the top of a chinese junk. Get this they ship a 500 pound table saw in a cardboard box.. no crate no pallet no stryfoam just wraped in single ply cardboard. My initial impression was that it was heavy duty. That was until I pop the top. The trunion of my saw cracked in half, obviously the result of a cataclysmic collision. I called grizzly who of course blamed fed-ex... which is understandable since the fed ex guys are trying to move a 500 lbs, top heavy table saw with no crate no pallet and no place for a fork lift to pick it up. While I was waiting for fed ex to pick it up to ship back I inspected the saw for over all quality. The mechanisms were made from low qualtiy sand cast iron with no machine hardening. The table top did have a nice finish and the action on the worm screws were satisfactory. The Fence seemed like a well made beismeyer clone and the miter gage was actually quite nice .. the best part of the saw. So the saw went back to grizzly and 3 weeks later my new saw arrived. Well those boys of there in seattle must have been smoking the B.C. bud or were trying to pull a fast one but the shipped me the right tilt model which costs several hundred dollars less.. When I called grizzly on it the basically told me I was a lying and that I had in fact received a left tilt version. I was miffed... the operator refused to beleive that I knew my right from my left. I shipped that saw back and order a powermatic. Best Tool I will ever own. Sure the powermatic cost about a grand more but like most things u get what you pay for. In every institution I have studied indurtrial tech the shop at the college has had powermatic table saws. The powermatic can withstand the abuse of novice students and still remain true and accurate. Truth be told I am glad that grizzly was incompatent cause I ended up with the saw that will last my lifetime. When compared with other saw in the same price range such as craftsman... the grizzly is considerable beefer but when stacked up against an industrial quality tool like powermatic.. the grizzly is just a poorly made toy. Every piece of the powermatic saw is machined hardened and the saw arrives accurate to .003. Powermatic ships the saw the way it should be surrounded in stryfoam in a wooden crate. The way you would expect a 500 lbs tool to be shipped. So hold out save a few more bucks .. put it on the credit card and buy a powermatic it is worth every penny and u wont have to spend the next ten years wishing you did the right thing and bought a real saw. Dont be fooled that grizzly head quarters is in seattle this saws come from taiwan. And by the way... powermatic is made in the USA, the job u save could be your own. dont support sweatshop labor when you could support your neighbors and end up with a quality tool that you will never have to worry about and can be proud to show off.

br /p.s. I gave 2 stars instead of 1 cause I liked the miter gauge.

I read all the review and decided to go with this saw. After cleaning the table I noticed pitting in the top. Also noticed machining lines. Very dissapointed at the Quality control on this unit. The fence was also messed up. They sent me a new side for the fence but wanted to send another saw to replace the unit I have.. After waiting 4 wks to get it now having to wait 4-6 wks more it just doesnt seem like a company I want to continue business with . I offered to send the top back in exchange for a replacement but that would require me to buy one up front wait for it to arrive and then send this one back for credit. Give me a break. They made the defective top and now they want me the customer to be out additional money to get it fixed. If I had it to do over I would buy something else. After buying this I have looked at different brands and the finish and quality of their table top far exceeds this one. I have yet to put a blade on it or even the fence so I cant comment on the performance. I also found loose parts down in the cabinet. They told be what they were for but I would have to take apart the unit to see if mine had them . They could be extra or they could be needed dont know until I pull the unit apart to see. I feel like I bought this thing at a flea market.

This saw replaced a 3-year old Craftsman contractor's saw equipped with an after-market Vega fence.br After reading all of the reviews, I finally ordered this saw, but with a lot of apprehension. However, my experience has been Great! br I finalized my order on Monday at noon. The saw was in my garage in 50 hours. br While there was no shipping damage, I agree with other reviewers that the shipping container is inadequate. I paid an extra $20 up front to get it delivered by a truck with a lift gate. The driver wheeled it into my garage on his pallet jack.brThe saw was easy to set up (get a mobile base and put it together under the saw). I had to shim the wings slightly to make them flat to the table. The wings are flat and the table is fairly flat, within .008, but it had a high spot on the left side that I didn't like. I contacted Grizzly and they are sending a replacement table. Great customer service!!! The arbor run-out was acceptable. The miter slot was parallel to the blade, needing no adjustment. I had to adjust the 90 and 45 degree stops slightly.br I installed the Shop Fox fence that came with the saw. The holes line up perfectly, so it is easy to install and set up. This is a very solid fence, but I wouldn't purchase this fence alone. I will use it for a few months before I decide whether to keep it our use my Vega.br In my opinion, the worst thing about the saw is the switch. I think it is a piece of junk. It literally looks like something you would buy from one of those $1.00 or less stores. It is actually a little embarrassing to show the saw with this switch. The typical response is, "What's up with that????"br Power switch aside though (I'll put up with the ribbing for now), this is a solid, well built saw, and so far, I feel it is well worth the money. Time will truly tell, after a year or two of use I can provide a better review.br But seriously, if you are like me and want to upgrade to a better saw, but can't jusify or afford the $1400 or more for a true upgrade. If that is you, take a look at this saw. If you are considering a new contractor saw or a hybrid--pass on those and check out the Grizzly. I don't think you will be disappointed.
